Clemson spent a week working on Georgia Tech’s offense during its August practices. The result: a 27-13 win in which the Yellow Jackets were held to 325 yards in offense.
Virginia Tech did the Tigers one better, with some of its coaches travelling to Iowa this summer to pick the brains of its coaches. The Hawkeyes defeated the Yellow Jackets in the Orange Bowl, 24-14, holding them to 155 yards.
“Well we’ve respected how they play defense for a number of years, and of course they played Georgia Tech in their bowl game so it kind of had a dual purpose there, getting together and talking a little bit, of course talking about Georgia Tech somewhat too,” Beamer said.
Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson said, with the exception of defensive coordinator Al Groh visiting Bill Belichick, none of his coaches visited any other campuses during the summer because there wasn’t any reason. That’s because, with the exception of Navy, no one else runs Tech’s offense.

to answer ashamedjacket’s question:
“GT Grad; if the triple option is so great – let me ask you how many national championships have been won in the last 25 years running the triple option?”
3 natinal titles. by nebraska. in 1994. and 1995. and 1997.
and in 1970 and 1971.
don’t forget oklahoma in 1974. and 1975.
apparently if you want to be repeat national champs, you have to run the option. thanks for the reminder.

I would like to bet the reason that Clemson if 4-3 right now is that they spent a week in the summer practicing against Tech. I think we are the Phil Niekro of college football. Folks spend so much time preparing for us. Have you noticed the week after a team plays us, they tend to lose?

Hey, u gag fans, it about time tonight to go sniffing. You have made yourselves into the idiots that you are this evening. UGA, is a great school but, the students as always seem to bring it down. Keep on posting on a Tech blog, it tells everyone how desperate you losers are. You have won how many games this year? I think at last count Tech has won more.
I always thought that the idiot comments from the so called Ga. students were from the people that never attended a college of any sort. After reading them tonight I am convinced that most of the comments were not from students but from people that barely got out of high school and never played a down of football in their life.

oh, i see. so nebraska’s i-OPTION did in fact win 5 national titles in the past 40 years. and 3 in the past 16 years?
thanks for clearing that up.
so your point was that teams can’t win running the option? not sure the facts support ya, buddy. try again.

wesleywhatwhat; you are clueless. the triple option and I option are completely different; so is the spread option. I was specifically talking about the triple option and for what its worth no team in Div 1 history has ever won a national championship with the triple option. The I option allows for more pass plays and play action . You can have up to 3 receivers on the filed with the I-option. Not really and “option” with the triple option. That is why it won’t win a national championship.

@ashamedjacket – Some interesting analysis here, with play diagrams:
“11/19 Dive This calls the give to the fullback on this option. For years Osborne said Nebraska didn’t run trile option, but instead, called handoff and keeps in the huddle. Since 1997 I’ve suspected that the Huskers have experimented with some triple option.”
“11/19 Veer This may be the call used to indicate the QB will read the handoff to the fullback for a triple option. This call is heard in A Day in the Life of Nebraska Football and a FB dive is run on the video. Nebraska is running at least a little triple option. Whether this call has something to do with it or not is just a guess.”

Let me make myself clear…the triple option works; but not when that is the only formation you EVER show. Nebraska primarily ran the I-option, but would also set up in shotgun, wing option, and yes even a form of the triple option. PJ is so convinced his system will work regardless of what the defense shows he will run it even if the opposing team has 9 in the box. This is simply stubborn and will not work week to week. Yes, he will continue to win more than lose, but he will be exposed for being foolish

wesleywhatwhat; you are exposed as not knowing football. Here is your Nebraska option. It’s funny; I see a ton of formations; shotgun, I, single back. Tech only has one….

Do you hear yourself? I really think you just need to stop talking. Permanently.
You can’t run *any* offense if you don’t block. You can’t defend against anything if your d-line underachieves. The end.
Good lord, most of you morons don’t know jack about football. It’s so obvious.

And yes, they ran the triple option; I saw it with my own eyes. Oklahoma wore tear-away jerseys and Alabama halfbacks wore jerseys that were cut off to just below the shoulder pad fronts.

Ashamedjacket….have you EVER even watched a Tech game? You are embarrasing yourself. Tech lines up in CPJ’s standard Triple O maybe 50 percent of the time, thats it. They also line up offset left, offset right, A back stacked left or right, WR and A back stacked, shotgun, A or B back in motion, and many more formations.
Techs issues are thus: Blocking on the perimeter. Last year AA and Bebe were usually making the big blocks with a good dose of Roddy Jones, now with Bebe gone and AA as the b back, people are not adjusting to the learning curve as they should. Offensive line has had maybe 6 different set-ups in 8 games due to injury. I believe CPJ overstated when he was speaking of pure depth, our offensive line hasnt gotten into any kind of rhythem. Our wide recievers and A backs have dropped SO many balls its beyond ridiculous. Nesbitt still only throws a good pass maybe 1 out of every 2 times. Doug had a pretty good blog about it a few days back. Missed assignments, missed blocks, blocking the wrong person. There are coaching issues yes, and then there are player issues. No leaders have stepped up. Period. There is no consistent urgency. Hurting ourself over and over again with penalties, and not being able to overcome them. In less than a half at Clemson, we roughed the kicker, had a pass interference that kept Clemson drives alive, put the ball on the floor, and had a TD fall through a recievers hands. Stupid plays. Other teams are plain dumb not to put 7 or 8 in the box, cut the dive and the end play off and try to make Tech hurt them with the pass before they break back into coverage.
Now, we have yet to see Techs best game. We have yet to see Tech play a full game. CPJ has not lost back to back games since he has been here. We have almost a full week extra to prepare for VT and have every possibility to win, and a few extra days before Miami comes to town. We could very well go 4-0 our last 4 games. We could also go 2-2 or 0-4. Its all about focus and its all about hunger. Its time to start getting MAD. GO TECH!!!!!!
One last thing, for all those who are calling for CPJ;’s head. Please. Do yourself a favor and shut it. The man is ten times better than Gailey. He KNOWS his offense. And guess what? If the execution is perfect, then the offense will score on 80 percent of thier drives. Thats not arrogance. That is demanding perfection. I love it. As far as recruiting goes, why dont you take a peek at the roster for a minute? This is his 3rd year. He didnt take over until after the bowl game at the end of December of 07, and kept the recruiting class together the best he could. He kept Nesbitt here. Names of mention on the roster that are his recruits: Johnspn(S), Bostic(A back), Sweeting(CB), Sims(QB), Watts(LB), Smith(WR/A back), Godhigh(A back), Watson(B back), Burnett(LB), Attoachu(LB), Finch(OL), Carter(LB), Jackson(OL), Smith(OT), McRae(OL), Uzzi(OT), Barnes(DT), Dieke(DE), Cross(DE), and Lanier(DT). Give him a little more time, quit being fairweather fans, and root for your team!!!!!

Clemson beat Tech because Clemson is the superior football team. Plain and simple. Clemson has superior talent and superior coaches.
Question is: Is Tech superior to Georgia???

To the tards bragging about the UGA graduation rate- please.
I’m sure if our players could major in Pre-Business,”Housing, Sports Management, and Education, it’d be a different story (pre-business? seriously?). Instead, they mostly major in *actual* engineering disciplines, and a lot major in Management. And before you ignorantly spout off about Management, check your facts. It’s consistently ranked above UGA’s business school (sad, considering that’s supposed to be one of your strengths), and it’s not a cakewalk. For example, you actually have to take some calculus classes *prior* to starting your major-related classes. And unlike the UGA faculty, the Tech profs don’t give a damn if you’re on the football team or not (normally I’d just say that they have integrity, but I don’t want to confuse you poor guys).

The funny thing is that Clemson really couldn’t stop the option. The outside was open ALL DAY LONG! CPJ had a gameplan going in and stuck with it. It was painful to watch but in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM did they shut the option down. We went out there and threw the ball far too much and that is what Clemson stopped. Georgia has 3 b/s wins. UT give me a damn break, Vandy who the f cares and then the SEC powerhouse Kentucky. I just wish these retarded UGAG fans would go find their own blogs. Maybe they can discuss Aaron Murrays’ dominance LMAO or maybe they can discuss the Defense dominance(33 pts given up to Kentucky)!

WOW…UGAG graduation rate…yeah it must be easy with all of those idiots there taking tests for athletes, ect….I was recruited at Tech and UGAG for swimming and let me let you retards in on a lil secret…Ga Tech gives NO help other than tutors to their athletes…UGAG on the other hand were offering someone to take tests for theirs. There are only a handfull of players on UGAGs roster that can actually give a post game interview without sounding like Michael Vick. Uneducated rednecks!

I am a Tech grad, and when I want to watch Tech play, I do not want to see them wear uniforms like Penn State wears, with the black side striped white pants. I have read in the Tech Topics alum newspaper that “black is out” at Tech from the head of the alum assn. Because of these reasons, that in my opinion is why Tech lost to Clemson and Nez did not get his 40 yards rushing, and is why Tech has lost in those pants to Kansas and NCSU. I turned on this Clemson game on tv, saw what Tech was wearing, and turned it off. The pants they wore for Homecoming are acceptable to me to watch.
