Later today, Georgia Tech will unveil its Heisman Trophy push for quarterback Joshua Nesbitt.
I’ve seen a glimpse of what they are going to do. It’s pretty clever.
But, when thinking about Nesbitt and his chances of winning college football’s most prestigious trophy, I thought it might be interesting to look at the stats of the past few quarterbacks to win, and see how Nesbitt compares.
Keep in mind that all of these stats will include bowl games. The trophy is awarded before the bowl games are played.
First, we will start with Nesbitt last season:
Category Nesbitt Bradford (2008) Tebow (2007) Smith (2006)
Rushing 1,037 47 895 204
Rush TD 18 5 23 1
Passing 1,701 4,720 3,286 2,542
Pass TD 10 50 32 30
Total yards 2738 4767 4181 2,746
Total TD 28 55 65 31
Category Leinart (2004) White (2003) Palmer (2002) Crouch (2001)
Rushing (.9) (150) 122 1,115
Rush TD 3 1 4 18
Passing 3,332 3,846 3,942 1,510
Pass TD 33 40 33 7
Total yards 3,331 3,696 4,064 2,625
Total TD 36 41 37 25

WreckBone,
ALL teams close practice during finals and let their players go home for Christmas too. I guess you wouldn’t know that considering most, if not all, of your bowl games are played before Christmas.
BTW,”hit and run” is in the UGA playbook. You all should know this after what Ealey and King did to you last year!

2400 yards passing? This year or for his career? have you ever seen him throw the ball, or attempt to?

You are WRONG
Calvin.
The Heisman campaign of Mark Ingram did not hurt the TEAM effort
of Alabama winning the National Championship.

If GT could manage to go undefeated AND put up 60+ pts on someone early in the year AND lead the country in ave points per game AND Nesbitt’s passing/rushing TD totals equal other QBs passing TDs AND his stats in the ‘big’ games are big, then he would have a chance, however, that is too many ifs…

HEY Lance, you want to hear something even funnier, when you dog morons brag on these blogs about all the national titles your conference has but yet none of them are ugays…that means somebody in your conference beat the slop out of you and your 5 stars. I mean do you not have something to brag about that ugay accomplished? Guess not

Hewitt is STILL coaching due to the insanely dumb contract given to him by the previous AD. If you have $7M lying around to give to the program, I am sure he will gladly forward it on to hewitt and show him the door.

it is certainly a long shot for nesbitt to get the heisman, but i support the campaign. it is fun for nesbitt and the team, and it will help him get some of the recognition he deserves for a great college career. a true team player….he adjusted when johnson was hired, and he has done everything that has been asked of him. including taking many huge hits week in and week out. in this offense, nesbitt gets hit on almost every single play regardless of if he keeps the ball or not. that is a lot to ask of a QB. while also having a top ten passer efficiency rating. his completion % is bad, partially due to lack of accuracy, but also because he doesn’t do the short dink and dunk passes that come with running the spread offense. the only balls he throws are the long balls. if you compare his comp % with the comp % of another QB on only deep balls, you will find it is comparable.
bring on Aaron Murray……not very scared of him. if he is smart, he will lob it up to Green every play

You brag about the money Alumni make yet can’t come up with $7 mil? You might as well have intramurals running your athletic program.

JACKETNATION, we only brag about STATE titles around here. What cave have you been living in for the past…oh, I don’t know…TWENTY years? We own you twerp. No national titles necessary.
But don’t you think its interesting that we play in a conference that has won 4 consecutive national titles and you play in a conference that is 2-10 in BCS bowl games? I think that’s noteworthy, especially since you clowns like to brag about that cute little ACC title you won last year, as if we’re supposed to care. Just sayin’ bro.

nesbitt’s numbers are on par with or exceed eric crouch’s numbers from 2001.
of course, nebraska DID play for the national championship against miami that year, so the wins and losses are just as important as the player’s stats.

and i have to cosign with the prevailing opinion that only really dumb dawg fans brag about national titles that OTHER teams in their conference have won lately.
that just underscores the fact that, outside of merchandise sales at walmart, uga is a second tier SEC program at best. behind florida, alabama, lsu, tenn and possibly even usc, depending on how garcia plays this year.

Sorry, but as a passer he stinks. Just look at his last 7 or 8 games from last year. Sorry, but Tebow had the passing and rushing yardage. Sorry, but Tech needs to put their resources behind something legit, not this.

Nerds! Nerds! Nerds! I wish I could translate that into Chinese so that most of the Tech students could read it a bit better as it’s their first language but I just don’t know speak Chinese (cantonese or mandarin). Ha ha ha!!
Here are the facts:
1) Tech is a 1st rate school with a second rate athletic program. Most of it’s players were not recruited by too many schools otherwise they’d have gone somewhere else.
2) No player that runs the triple option offense will win the Heisman. It’s perceived as a gimmick offense and the spread is “in vogue” right now. Just think about some other Heisman hopefuls. Do you really think they’ll give it to Nesbitt over some of teh other great college players from schools like Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Southern Cal?? COme on guys.
3) This is the most important one. UGA beats them so often (9 out of last 10 years recently) that they hardly ever win their state. I fear it won’t be too long before GA State starts beating them too.
You nerds need to go back to playing your Halo games on your X-Box. Better yet, shouldn’t you nerds be getting ready for DragonCon this weekend?
