Georgia Tech will unveil its Heisman Trophy campaign for quarterback Joshua Nesbitt on Tuesday.
Watch for a website, www.nesbitt4heisman.com, to go live by 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Nesbitt, a 6-foot-1, 217-pound senior, passed for 1,701 yards and rushed for 1,037 yards last season to lead the Yellow Jackets to the ACC championship. He is considered an outside contender for the award. Alabama running back Mark Ingram, who won the award last season, is the favorite to win it again this season. The last quarterback from an option team to win the Heisman was Nebraska’s Eric Crouch in 2001.
Though the trophy is named after Tech’s first coach, John Heisman, who went 102-29-7 from 1904-19, no Yellow Jacket has ever won college football’s most prestigious trophy, given annually to the sport’s best player.
With 2,079 yards in three seasons, Nesbitt has already rushed for more yards than any quarterback in Tech’s history and is just the second to rush and pass for more than 1,000 yards in a season. A Greene County High School product, Nesbitt needs 692 yards to become the most prolific rushing quarterback in ACC history.

1978: Eddie Lee Ivery, TB 8th

Bug Z David greene was a great qb on the bootleg fake. Richt may have tought him that, but Green had the gust to stand with his back to the line until he turned and threw the pass. Q. Carter and DJ were jokes and you know it. Don’t even try that sales pitch or you will get Reggie Ball thrown up at you. Richt didn’t teach Stafford a thing because Bobo was his position caoach and Bobo didn’t teach Matt t have a HUGE arm. Richt didn’t teach Weinke to have a pro baseball players arm or to be a 4 year NFL age QB. Richt taught C. Ward how to be a NBA point guard right? Ward ran around and then threw the ball as deep as he could after the D broke down and the WRs got behind the D. Richt taught C Ward that trick right? If Richt is worthhis money then why don’t all the major colleges needing a coach at least ask to speak to Richt? Why didn’t UT call to talk to Bobo if he is so good? Mane the last UGA Head Coach to get a job after UGA? Name one Uga OC that got a head coaching job after leaving UGA? The last coach from UGA that left an was a Head coach was Erk Russell at GSU. GSU didn’t have a team before Erk showed up. Who was the OC that got ERK a National Championship in 85? PAUL JOHNSON. without Paul Erk would not have a dog house to sleep in.

The Heisman Trophy is a popularity contest and Nesbitt isnt popular enough. It doesnt matter his stats, he would pretty much have to lead us to an undefeated record and the MNC to even be considered. More then likely someone from the SEC or Big 10 who doesnt deserve it will win it like Ingram last year.

ok 5150. First off, Q carter never played on any Richt coached team you idiot!. 2nd, David Green is the second all time winningest QB in NCAA history. 3rd, DJ Shockley won a SEC title in his only year as a starter and also a BCS game(which you guys have never done). And no, Richt nor Bobo did’nt teach Stafford the big arm thing as you say but they did coach him up enough to end up a number one draft pick so obviously somethings being taught right……Now, even as mad as I get at Bobo at times, he’s sure doing something right against you losers…..look at the record……Oh, and by the way, you brought up Reggie Balls name. Not me!…but thats a joke in itself……Did he ever learn how to count?

Josh is a sure thing for the Heisman. Murray is a sure thing for a pick six. LMFAO. Long season dogs without a QB.

Can’t have 4-14, 51 yards passing and 21 attempts for 54 yards rushing like last year’s stellar performance against Wake Forest.

Realistically do I think Nesbitt is going to win the Heisman, No. However, I think he has a chance to be in the mix much like Joe in 1999. If he has that kind of season where he is running the offense efficiently, moving the ball on the ground and completing 55%-60% of his passes, then he will have as good a shot as anyone. I remember Joe in the 1999 game at FSU throwing the ball all over the field and putting up a Heisman-worthy performance even in a loss. Nesbitt would have to play like that and have a couple of signature wins as well as possibly some signature performances even in losses.

ESPN will spend this year fawning over Nick Saban. He will take the place of Tim Tebow. Good luck to Nesbitt. I didn’t realize that Tech did not have a Heisman winner. With the history I wouldn’t have guessed that. Yes, I’m a Dawg fan but I’m not your typical no neck, redneck type. Good luck until late November!

wintervilledawg,
Thanks for the level-headed, even-keeled comments. There are a few of you UGA fans like that out there. UGA should be much improved on defense and after Murray gets his feet wet a little bit, also somewhat improved in the passing game. Both Tech and UGA should go into their rivalry game with nine to ten wins, so it should be a good one this year.
HERSCHEL WAS SCREWED

Undoubtedly, Herschel Walker was screwed his freshman year. Everyone knows the only reason he did not get the Heisman is because it had never been given to a freshman or even sophomore up to that point. Without Herschel, Dawgs go 8-4, maybe 9-3.
