Georgia Tech’s Bedford named preseason All-ACC

Center Sean Bedford was the only Georgia Tech player to be voted to the All-ACC preseason team by the media, in results released Wednesday.

Bedford, a senior, was voted to the final first-team last season.
He started all 14 games last season, helping the Yellow Jackets lead the conference in rushing offense and total offense to win the school’s first outright ACC title since 1990.

Despite being picked to finish fourth in the Coastal Division, North Carolina led all teams with five selections, all coming from the Tar Heels’ defense. Boston College had four players selected.

I have never understood the concept of a team selected before any games are played.

Is this something one learns in Journalism class?

congrats to Sean, besides Sean, all I see on here are LOSERS in 2010. Nesbitt for Heisman

Congrats to Bedford. Its pretty striking though that UNC has 5 players ALL ACC on defense at 5 different positions. Its gonna be hard to score on that team.

Hugo, all 5 of those guys were on the team last year, too.

While its nice to have guys on this list, to me the key person returning for GT is Paul Johnson. As long as he is back, I’m not worried about having a good team.

Congrats to Mr. Bedford on his selection.
Hugo.. as Jared said, all 5 were there last year when Nesbitt and company rolled up tons of yards on them during a whipping at Bobby Dodd. I was there personally to see it. They are big and strong but they got wore down by the TO all day. And the fact that their QB couldn’t throw to save his life kept them on the field most of the game…

this preseason stuff means nothing. last year derrick morgan didn’t make preseason all-ACC, and look how he performed.

I want to hear UGA fans talk sh&t about us only having 1 player. Georgia has two kickers on the ALL_SEC team.

The ACC media might not be as intellectually challenged as the SEC media (ok, they are mostly the same south of South Carolina, there are just more of them in Florida), but any preseason All-ACC Team without Joshua Nesbitt at quarterback is just dumb. Ponder is a good quarterback and I take nothing away from him, but Nesbitt proved last year he is the best in the ACC until someone performs better in combat. Congratulations to Bedford who seems to be a solid player and a solid person.

We already knew what a great job Sean did last year. He will be a leader for the line this year. Nice to know we have such a good man in front of Joshua, too.

UGA has proven several times that preseason lists mean nothing. By the end of the season, you can bank on the fact that Anthony Allen will be on this list. I still can’t get over the fact that the dude had a 10 ypc average last year and he’s considered a drop off. Really? REALLY??!?!

Bedford will continue to be a solid player for Tech and help anchor what really could be an improved line.

The “media” and other “experts” don’t WANT to believe in the system PJ runs, and that it actually WINS lots of games, and has more than one player who excells each campaign. Therefore, they look elsewhere when ranking teams, players, etc.

And when PJ & Co. prove them wrong again in 2010 it’ll be the same broken record blah, blah, blah next season. I agree with RAMBLIN WRECKER … the key person returning is … PAUL JOHNSON!

nesbitt is a nice running qb and thats it. no way he should be a first or 2nd team qb. more like a 5th team running bback though. this system of pj can have any tom dick or harry running it just so happens all the good players dont want to play for it because its a high school offense and they need to get ready for the pros. this system just doesnt help them to go to the next level. get ready for a messed up year with only 1 gaily recruit left to run this old school offense.

atl xmen – You should’ve informed those scouts and teams that drafted Bebe Thomas and Jon Dwyer, that way they wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of wasting their draft picks on guys that, as we know, won’t be worth much because they came from GT’s system. A “high school” system that has scored an average of over 37 points in 2 years against the mighty Georgie team.

Say all you want about our offense, but Georgie has not and will not stop it, and we will still place our stars in the NFL.

why is atlxman posting on a georgia tech blog?

since he obviously doesn’tt know anything about sports, i suppose i should feel bad for mocking him, but i’ll take his money anyway – hey xdude, u ready to put up some money on who has the better season – gt or uga?

uga stopped that high school offense for two years now. the 3rd qt two years ago they had some tackling issues but other than that uga young pups shut it down.

bey bey and JD would have transferred if they could have and both were gailys players not paul johnson. the offense will not bring you guys the good recruits like jd or bey bey..

Gaily couldn’t win with his on players. Coach Johnson could and did with a system their skill set wasn’t suited. If I were you I would be concerned with whether your coach can win with his own players. Seems he has had problems the last 2 yrs with players he recruited for his system that were on the same level as players that went Fla and Alabama and all he has been able to do is wet the bed with them. It would seem that maybe he is running some sort of high school offense and defense. Top 10 recruiting classes finishing out of the top 10. Is it the players or the coach. I say the coach as I don’t believe the players quit knowing how to play.

Only 1 player on the ACC’s first depth chart.

Picked to finish 3rd in the Coastal.

Buzz-Kill (pardon the pun) loss to UGA at home, last November.

Coach Paul Johnson’s fire will be hotter than ever, under our boy’s asses!

I smell not only a back-to-back ACC Championship— but a run at THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

yes the same skill level as ala and fla just not the same experience the last 2 years. uga has been playing with mostly underclassmen on both off and def lines the past two years. big difference in the sec. richt and company are fine. no worries here about richt as he has been winning plenty since joining uga. your boy pj has been winning with gailys pro players and now that they are gone and pj players are equal to div 1aa players lets see how much he wins now.i bet he goes to 7 maybe 8 wins if he is lucky a year. his offense will not bring in the type of players needed to win against the better teams in college football.

atlxmen – Your point was the “system will not put them in the NFL, because it is a high school offense”. Both JD and Bebe are products of this system. They didn’t play or show enough of their talent under the previous system to get any interest from NFL teams. So, your point is just moot.

Regarding your stopping our offense; exactly when did you do that???? Averaging 37+ points per game I don’t think you can claim you stopped us at any point. And guess what…. you won’t, you can’t.

Why do I think Tech can have as sucessful a season or maybe better? More experience on offense at other positions that didnt go pro. And Nesbitt. Next year we will possibly have a letdown with a new QB. But this year Nesbitt is a Sr and knows the offense well. Another reason, Al Groh. He has always had a pretty stout defense wiht his level of recruits. And those of you who say guys wont come here, well we never had any 5 star running backs looking at Tech ever. Now they are. Check out the recruiting. We maynot get them this year but they will come to running back U. Also Allen can be as good as Dwyer. Its not like hes a freshman running back. Hes got 1700 career collegiate yards so he knows how to do it. If Nesbitt can improve the passing a little, then we have a shot at a relaly great season. Road game at UNC will set the tone. Then the 3 of 4 toughest conference games at the end of the season should give the defense time to figure it out. If we are 7-0 going into Clemson and win that one, look out!!
