Cooper Taylor’s request for a medical redshirt for the 2009-10 season was recently granted by the ACC. As a result, he will receive an extra year of eligibility.
“I am very happy and thankful to get back a year of eligibility,” Taylor said in a statement. “I appreciate all the work done by our medical staff to get me back healthy again, and by our compliance staff for their work during the appeal process.”
Taylor experienced an extremely rapid heart beat and dizziness during the first quarter of the Miami game Sept. 17. He was diagnosed a day later with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome and missed the rest of the season. Those diagnosed with WPWS experience a loss of synchronization between the upper and lower chambers of the heart. The condition can become progressively worse if not corrected.
Taylor said in October that he had experienced symptoms in the past, but thought he was just out of shape. He said the episode during the Miami game was the most severe. He underwent surgery at Piedmont Hospital the following week.
Former Tech player Levi Walls was diagnosed with WPWS in 2007. Levi’s younger brother, Logan, had a similar, but lesser, condition diagnosed the same year. Both underwent the same procedure as Taylor to correct the abnormality.
Taylor, a 6-4, 208-pound Atlanta native, started the season’s first three games and had 16 tackles. He had 69 tackles his freshman season.

It’s good to see that U(sic)GA fans are still just as classy as ever. This article, incase you still can’t read, it a report on a player who had to give up what he loves for an entire season because of a major health condition, and you’re bringing up “accomplishments” in which you had absolutely no part in. You don’t see us hiding behind Duke or UNC each time they win another basketball championship. That’s because we account for our own accomplishments, whether good or bad, like sweeping your sorry-azz baseball team while you take credit for what the SEC, a confrence in which UGAy is found in the bottom of the barrel, is doing.

Coop the Hoop is going to shine this year at safety and I hope we can keep him until his eligibility is completely used. I still think CPJ should let Cooper run some QB on the offense as he is a good athlete, has run the option and can probably pass the ball better than any QB on the roster.
