A look at Georgia Tech’s offensive line

I felt bad leaving you without a blog for two weeks, so I cobbled this together, using colleague Tim Tucker’s capsule on the Georgia blog. A few more will be coming.

THE OFFENSIVE LINE

  • Returning starters: T Phil Smith, C Sean Bedford, T Austin Barrick.
  • Others to watch: Guard Omoregie Uzzi and the versatile Nick Claytor saw lots of snaps last season. Guard Nick McRae looked very good in the spring and there are many redshirted players, including Will Jackson and Ray Beno, waiting in the wings.
  • Key losses: All-ACC guard Cord Howard graduated and  is now with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. The other starter, Joe Gilbert, will graduate this summer and has transferred to Georgia State. Starting tackle Brad Sellers graduated.
  • Key fact: The Jackets led the ACC by averaging 295.4 rushing yards a game last season. They were 87.2 yards ahead of the next-best team, Virginia Tech.
  • Key fact II: The Jackets were second in that category in the NCAA, behind Nevada (344.92 ypg).
  • Key question: Will the two new guards be able to step in and play as well as last season’s did? Coach Paul Johnson has said the line played well, but there is lots of room to improve.
  • Recent developments: Other than the transfers of Gilbert and backup Clyde Yandell, not much.
  • Outlook: Should be fine, but we will see. It’s tough to lose that many starters on the line.
  • Your turn: What say you about the offensive line?

Hopefully, the o line can continue to improve in the TO. . . as more of PJ’s recruits come it, we ought to continue to see the system evolve.

Thanks Doug – can our offensive line ever really be measured by rushing yards, at least in comparison to other schools. Even with a subpar offensive line we will/should outrush all ACC teams. Are there other metrics to evaluate the O-line? Or, should we just compare year-to-year and with Navy?

O-Line will be much improved this year over last….remember, we are still using some of Gailey’s recruits. I expect this year and next year to be the measuring stick for CPJ since he will have his own recruits in there. It’s great to be a Yellow Jacket!

O-Line could be a problem this year. We should be able to do well in ACC but untill we get bigger we will struggle with the larger D Lines as LSU, Iowa and ugay showed. Getting beat by LSU and Iowa had nothing to do with them having extra time to prepare it was only because of our O-Line getting man handled.

I ask CPJ about the O Line at the Spring Caravan in Lagrange GA. He said after 2 years of evaluation that we had very poor O Lineman Recruited by the previous coaching staff. He said if a guy could not play very well at his position the previous staff just put the guy on the O Line. He said that he is in the process of Recruiting big Lineman that are quick on their feet..I look for the O Line to improve each and every year under a real Football Coach. He said that our O Line from the previous 2 Seasons really over achieved considering the situation. Coach also said this is why they were man handled versus LSU and Iowa.. Coach CPG has a plan to improve our game in the trenches. He also hired Al Groh to make us a better team defensively. Lets keep our coach very happy Dan Radakovich. Thank you for bringing him here and turning this program around. 20 wins in 2 Seasons, 2009 ACC Football Champions, 2008 & 2009 ACC Coach of the year ” which has only happened 3 times in the history of the conference”, BCS Bowl Berth, 2 wins in a row versus FSU, 2009 victory versus a top 5 apponent at home, 3 in a row versus Clemson, 2008 over UGA in Athens…..ETC. ETC. ETC. ETC……..Go Jackets!

Screen door on a submarine, lol!
How come no decent HS QB wants to play in that hambone offense?
Why does GT, aka the Georgia Toilet, football team have so many transfers this year? Rats jumping ship maybe? So with one more year left or should I say 6 more games, that’s how long I see Nesbit playing before claiming injury. How will the football team with more potential pizza delivery drivers and loyal Clearasil users fare this year, and the bigger question in 2011 when all of Galilees players are gone?
Year one exceeded expectations, hell they finally beat the Georgia football team after what, nearly a decade? Year two wasn’t too bad, won the Aye She She, but got embarrassed by the WORST Georgia football team in a decade. Then got totally pummeled by Iowa on the National Stage, ouch! Maybe that’s why Georgia Toilet footballers are defecting, and to Georgia State of all places, LOL, OUCH!

CPJ’s teams at Navy seemed to always do well in spite of the obvious recruiting limitations. One has to believe that CPJ knows how to pick the kind of linemen that fit his system. The only questions are whether he can get bigger guys to also fit the system and whether his first crop of recruits are ready to fill those guard spots…

Reality, the point is that sad sacks like you and alot of your brethen that are dog fans would rather come here to try and tear something down than to be on your own board talking about your great recruiting so far this year or anything positive. You and your ilk are always negative and mostly just rude and nasty. You show no class because you have none, just ask the fans of say Clemson, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina and some others who have traditionally had very little good to say about you and your uneducated fan base. I have some friends that actually graduated from UGA and even though they can be irritating they are nothing like the uneducated masses that you are. Your life must be sad when the only pleasure you take is ripping on someone else. Most studies will show that pesonalities such as yours, come form you either being lazy, uneducated or a failure in your own eyes. No I did not graduate from GT. I graduated from Tulane, but my father went to GT therefore I have always been a fan. You to have a right to root for whoever you choose, and you also have a right to be classless, and so far that is the only trait I see that you are successful in…that is the point. Now bark away about how successful you are, but if you were truly successful and had any class at all, you would not be so negative, and would not have to find your happiness on some other teams blog. Hope before you die, you get a clue, a grip and find some positive reinforcement in your pathetic life. Good luck, I am sure you, and many like you will need it.

They should be fine. Two years ago they had no experience with this offense so the drop off should in no way be that bad. As you mentioned the backups have had experience in games with this offense. Uzzi and Claytor have played a lot. The question is how the 2nd team develops.

GT should be fine offensively if they can find more receivers. Don’t understand why their A-backs do not run more routes into the flats or crossing the middle.

RambleOn84

June 15th, 2010
10:33 am

UGA,
Regarding A backs running more routes, that has been a point of emphasis for Johnson.

But I don’t think we will see many routes in the flats, as Johnson has repeatedly said he’d rather run than throw a short pass.

We will see more intermediate routes from the A-backs, though. Probably starting this year, as Johnson has wanted more WR types at A-back, who can get to the edges and catch the ball out of the backfield. We will also have Chris Jackson, former Alabama WR, at A-back this year.

However, it gets hard to pull for them when I read a lot of the classless, annoying posts on here by dumb UGA fans.

To all, Dawgs post like this more often when the article gives us any kind of hope. Look at the trend. IF the article is about Tech improving in any area or getting recruits they HAVE to post to maintain their current worldview whihc will never accept anything other than an inferior and possibly foreign or demonic technical institute versus their God-ordained juggernaut “flagship university” team from a holy city. The chink in the armor is purely emotional…we call it fear. They deny it with more poisonous comments, but they betray it simply by paying attention to us all day long. Somewhere deep down their obsession with GT football grows everytime they hear we might be improving in some aspects. They were there for the ending of the “lay down and die” era in Athens, and they saw how close last year’s game was to being won by our team – despite being dominant in the trenches they can’t deny it came down to #8’s single dropped pass. Fear. Fear that when they can’t win the SEC or even beat their “main rival” Florida that they still might have endure the reality that Tech has been on the rise and won’t stop. The rivalry is real again. That’s why their here. Bask in their vitriol as a vote of confidence in our program. They wouldn’t bother if they didn’t think so.

Have at it, Dawgs. Thanks for all the publicity!

Technique of the offensive line is a key in this offense. The option does not really require “road graders.” Phil Smith (the “Are you stupid??” sideline one-way chat with CPJ) demonstrated that that he is very coachable. He started several games when Barrick went down and made the All-ACC Freshman team. Smith’s subsequent injury had Tech down to the 3rd string in the last 2 games.

Tech’s experienced heavy players are short at 6′1″ to 6′3″, but as with the Falcons’ offense 5 years ago, agility in the cut-blocking technique is a key. 1st Team All-ACC center Sean Bedford started last year, with the previous year’s starter (Dan Voss) as his backup. The quality of the depth will depend on how the redshirts and last year’s third team players developed in the offseason ans spring. Since both Barrick and Smith missed the spring, those backups got a lot of work.

Why???

I am only responsible for my own actions, I cannot control what others choose to do. I learned this lesson as a child. I am truly sorry that you feel bad about your program and that tech posters go to UGA blogs and make you feel inadequate, but two wrongs do not make a right. Yet another lesson most of us learned from childhood. Now, if you are still an adolescent, then perhaps we can give you a pass, this may be the opportunity for you to learn these lessons. If you are an adult, then you are just sad.

I’m of the opinion his title “Reality Stinks” is aptly chosen. He really must hate reality. Think of how often they would all try to convince us that Tech is evil and wrong for being diverse (having students from many countries and from all walks of life gets called “training terrorists” while having a homosexual on the flagline twenty years ago is also somehow wrong and evil). For comaprison, in their collective opinion, Georgia has never had a homosexual student or a Muslim one nor a fat one (all the ladies are actually Playboy bunnies and the guys are all Abercrombie models, if you haven’t heard). When. of course, by enrollment numbers they probably have a greater number of BOTH! They’re all actually SO much smarter than us too and simply “chose not to attend Tech.” And finally, they’d have us believe we have never had a good team or season and will never ever have one. Not in football, not in basketball, not in baseball and certainly not in the bank account department.

Yeah, I’d say a look at reality for them would seriously stink!

I think they will be fine. The center returning and the guards having snaps last season will help. They need to just hold on until CPJ’s guys get in there. I think it will go really well then. I agree that NC is going to have a top D unit. That will be a big test. The Defense needs to, and I think will, step it up. Every team loses players. Once the guys that we have been red-shirting the past two years get in there you will see much more mobile, quicker guys of the same size. This is what we have to have to beat the better teams. Its hard to block a guys when your pulling guard/tackle can’t make it to the block. Things are going going to get better.

“Perhaps CPJ is doing a good job recruiting players for his system, but his system doesn’t work against bigger, better teams.”

Fact is CPJ has a great history of beating bigger and better teams:
Miami, FSU, UNC, Clemson, UGA, Va Tech all have history of recuiting better rated player and Tech competes with all of them. At Navy his team were competing with every team they played and all of them had “better” player recuiting wise.

CPJ is one of the best coaches in the country. Very good OL coach, so they will do well. That being said they may be better this year but record may not show it because most of the team we play will be a lot better then last year, Va Tech, UNC, UGA, Miami.

They gained entrance and tried to work out a deal to attend GSU grad school and play for Tech, but could not make it work.

Gilbert made some bonehead mental mistakes last year. I am not real sure leaving was his idea. And if it wasn’t his idea then you wonder what is on the bench that allowed that to happen. I am thinking a smarter more suited player or players will show their talent and intelligence this year. Like Johnson said, “room for improvement” and he meant it.

I think this year will tell if Paul Johnson can recruit his type of players and coach them to be successful at this level of football. I think he can, but it still remains to be seen. Even this year the QB and B-back are not his recruits. I will be impressed if we can continue to compete with 3 star and a few 4 star athletes versus teams with mostly 4 star and a few 5 star athletes. I like the way CPJ is redshirting the guys. I believe a 3 star redshirt is equal to a 4 star. 5 star athletes however, are usually another step above.

It is true, GT’s offence has never, and can’t succeed against teams with real athletes….gimmicks only work but so long then they are figured out……Give PJ credit for being gutsy enough to give it a try, but only in the weak ACC of the Big East can it work……the other conferences have superior athletes which shows on the big stage…….It will be hard for Tech to land a big time QB or tail back into their system….all the big timers want to go somewhere where they might turn pro…..your offence does’nt showcase big time tallent…….just ask your running back from last year…..bet he wishes he went to UGA, FLA,ALA, etc……he had too much tallent to have it wasted in a gimmick system………guess its a good thing the conferences did’nt get realigned huh, at least this way GT can stay competitive in a weak conference…….can you immagine how bad it would be for you if you actually had to play big time ball in a big time conference?…….

No dawg in this fight :) but I will weigh in. The OL will be fine but will lack depth which could hurt given the type of offense being run. The DL is the problem. Al Groh can’t fix that in one year. Expect some improvement simply because of the scheme and Groh’s knowledge but shootouts will be the norm, not the exception.

I still see VT as the team to beat with GT next in line. 9-3?

It’s hard to predict just how good a three or four star recruit will be at the collegiate level. Remember that a lot of players who turned out to be super-talented or special didn’t mature into great players until their third or fourth years.
Some four star recruits turn out to be average because their extra-ordinary play in HS is due to them maturing physically earlier than their peers. Then, after the players reach full maturity, those that developed earlier suddenly look average because it is now a level playing field.
I think our O-line will be serviceable this year, but I must say I am very impressed and proud of Sean Bedford. A 3.8 in Aerospace is nigh impossible, but to pull that off, while playing full time football, and to get and “A” on senior design the same semester that he helped GT win a conference championship, that’s amazing.

mcdawghna, calm down a little. yes, yall have had great SEC success in the last decade with Richt at the helm. I think, however, that the fan your responding to was making his comments based on the last 2 seasons. As for our 20 wins not being against the big boys, sure, give us about 4 or 5 against some cupcakes, but some of those cupcakes were in your league. There are some big wins in those 20 that you’re not mentioning. Handling FSU twice after 25+ years of never doing that is a sign of health for our program by anyone’s standard. Beating VT was big – their season was still impressive and finished stronger than ours. We dominated UNC – watch whether they put up a fight this year against LSU.

Sure, Georgia beat us in the trenches all game, but you still had to pray as it all came down to one dropped pass. And, yeah, Iowa’s big DE’s were tougher than even Georgia’s. We still had flashes of comeback in that game. We were never a terrible team, and now we’re consistently a “good” team. We’re definitely not fading, that’s for sure. But you all know that, don’t you. After all, that’s why you’re here.

You don’t have to give Georgia Tech all the credit we deserve, but our team’s current title is still properly pronounced “Atlantic Coast Conference Champions”. Sound it out if you have to.

Kool Aid, in my understanding CPJ wants big O-linemen that are a step quicker than most. If he can’t get big ones he’ll settle for getting well-planted quick ones. The key is to be able to move laterally quicker than the D-line expects. Size and speed together will be the key to getting better offensive production over behemoth D-lines like Iowa’s. Some of the recruits for the 2010 and 2011 classes may help a lot in that regard. We have one commit who is 300 pounds at 16 years old and can reportedly move pretty darn quick. That sounds like a CPJ prototype O-lineman to me!

I point to fans like you being the problem with Tech. Here is why

Tech will not amount to anything athletically because not enough fans support the program thats a fact

Your fans allow Chan Gaily to last as long as he did. Do you think Chan would have lasted that long at UGA, just ask Donnan.

You let O’Leary go because number one you wont pay someone good to stay and your embarrassed because you didnt do a background check

Tech fans pride themselves on beating UGA and thats it instead of demanding much more

Academically your too strict (Yes stricter than UGA I will admit but this is your down fall as Notre Dame has not figured out yet either). So what if you let 60 dummies in your school, are you going play ball or study. You think USC football is loaded with great players with high IQ’s, no, and they are academically better than UGA

You believe because Paul Johnson beats UGA one time with the worst Defensive coordinator in history on their sidelines and you think now everything is going to change

You fans think because your rated in the top 10 and went to the Orange Bowl that your going to play for a NC this year

Your President and AD do not strive for more and havent since the 1960’s

These are just a few of Techs issues

Oh and Brocky, typical Tech response, you cant spell, your grammer, typical UGA. Well unfortunately Brocky I dont care about grammer I didnt major in English and this is a blog not a paper to turn in

“Tech will not amount to anything athletically because not enough fans support the program thats a fact”

Opinion, not fact. And we have amounted to ACC Champions, by the way.

“Your fans allow Chan Gaily to last as long as he did. Do you think Chan would have lasted that long at UGA, just ask Donnan.”

Fans wanted him gone long before he was fired.

“You let O’Leary go because number one you wont pay someone good to stay and your embarrassed because you didnt do a background check”

Maybe closer to correct. We didn’t have money.

“Tech fans pride themselves on beating UGA and thats it instead of demanding much more”

False. We want championships too.

“Academically your too strict (Yes stricter than UGA I will admit but this is your down fall as Notre Dame has not figured out yet either). So what if you let 60 dummies in your school, are you going play ball or study. You think USC football is loaded with great players with high IQ’s, no, and they are academically better than UGA”

Not touching that one…

“You believe because Paul Johnson beats UGA one time with the worst Defensive coordinator in history on their sidelines and you think now everything is going to change”

Everything IS changing. That has nothing to do with Georgia.

“You fans think because your rated in the top 10 and went to the Orange Bowl that your going to play for a NC this year”

No one said that but you, sir.

“Your President and AD do not strive for more and havent since the 1960’s”

“Your President and AD do not strive for more and havent since the 1960’s”

False. Plus we have had several Presidents and AD’s since then. They want championships too.

Yea I can tell your past AD’s wanted championships since the 1960’s. I guess thats why Techs athletic department has won less than 10 total championships conference champs included since then.

Academically your too strict (Yes stricter than UGA I will admit but this is your down fall as Notre Dame has not figured out yet either). So what if you let 60 dummies in your school, are you going play ball or study. You think USC football is loaded with great players with high IQ’s, no, and they are academically better than UGA”

Not touching that one…

(Again your proud of that and thats fine academically thats great, just don’t ever expect to go back to the Bobby Dodd era again. Sorry just facts not opinions

Example since 1980 name me 5 schools that are academic powerhouses that have won the national title. Notre Dame Michigan and Penn State are the only ones that come to mind and those two like Tech haven’t competed in 16 years. Notre Dame might be better than Tech academically the other two not.

Tech fans pride themselves on beating UGA and thats it instead of demanding much more”

False. We want championships too.

If that was true you would have more fans show up to games with a much larger stadium
Look at your stadiums with 80,000 plus seats 99% of those have won the NC in the last 30 years

Your fans allow Chan Gaily to last as long as he did. Do you think Chan would have lasted that long at UGA, just ask Donnan.”

Fans wanted him gone long before he was fired.

I can tell you if fans wanted him gone that bad he wouldnt have been their 4 years But like you said Tech fans and your AD and President strive for championships

“You believe because Paul Johnson beats UGA one time with the worst Defensive coordinator in history on their sidelines and you think now everything is going to change”

Anyway, my overall sentiment that the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are a good team, and one we should be proud to root for, has not changed based on anything you’ve shown me today. I still contend that your opinions of Tech are not as well-informed as you say. We are not handicapped by academics. We have and will win WITH high academic standards, not despite them!

Now, that said, I am not crowing for an NC this year. It would not be realistic preseason position to take. We’re not Alabama or Florida. But we’re not the same Georgia Tech team that used to lay down and die settling for 7 win seasons. I’d say that even then we weren’t settling – we all hated it! Dangerous words, RealityStinks. Paul Johnson has said his goal in moving to Georgia Tech is nothing less than a national championship. And to pick on ND like that…you’ll be eating your words at some point, sir. I can guarantee you that a decade’s time will serve you up at least one NC between those two schools.

3 quick things on Georgia’s football “tradition”…

1. Georgia needs to go ahead and give back the helmet logo it stole from the Green Bay Packers.
2. They should also cease playing the Battle Hymn of the Republic as their fight song. IN CASE YOU DIDN’T NOTICE, YOU’RE LOCATED IN THE DEEP SOUTH YOU STUPID REDNECKS!!!!
3. Not the first school to have a bulldog as a mascot. Very surprising (YAWN), you unoriginal bafoons. All of Georgia’s traditions are a complete joke.

Man up look at the depth chart, hopefully this kid will be good but he from Tenn. with no offer
from UT. With this system we will never get a high profile QB , Calvin Johnson would’ve signed with UGA. There is a reason only other offers from navy were SMU and Duke. As long as the ACC stays below par will be ok but if/when Miami and Fla. state hit their stride again , big trouble for CPJ.

Thanks Doug – can our offensive line ever really be measured by rushing yards, at least in comparison to other schools. Even with a subpar offensive line we will/should outrush all ACC teams. Are there other metrics to evaluate the O-line? Or, should we just compare year-to-year and with Navy?

Absolutely. Every time you play a team like Iowa you get one hell of a metric.

Now let me see if I’ve got this prediction correct …
–GT will finish 2010 with a better record than GA
–The Jackets will lose a game similar to UNC & LSU in 2008, and Iowa in 2009
–And many a dog fan will say … “5-6 wins AT MOST for the Techies in 2011 – everybody will have figured out the offense like UNC, LSU, Iowa, and XYZ team from 2010 did” “we ran this state, 30-24″, “8 out 10″, “our stadium is bigger”, “better looking chicks at GA”, “can’t fill your 25,000 seat high school stadium”, and on & on & on ……..

You tech fans always seem to amuse me. So what, you have one descent year in that subpar conference you call the ACC, and you think yall are Bama or something now? The comments you make about how yall are so much better than uga cause you won the ACC last year and beat us 1 time in the last nine years is absolutely hilarious. You can try and talk smack about uga with your overused academic superior comebacks, but when looking at the stats from this past decade in football, you come nowhere close to being as good as georgia.

To prove my point, under Richt, uga has been 8-1 against tech, 2 SEC championships (which is a different story than an ACC title amigos, but go ahead, talk how tough the ACC is..), six seasons of 10+ wins, six seasons of top 10 finishes, and 7 bowl game wins (two of which were BCS bowl wins).

As for GT goes, since 2000, y’all have an impressive 2-8 record against uga, a 3-7 bowl record with the only wins coming from syracuse, tulane, and stanford (back when stanford was not even good), one ACC title and no BCS bowl wins. Maybe you should get Paul Johnson to start recruiting some of those beast of women I see lurking around your campus. There, O-line problem solved.

Now, I know Im an unintelligent UGA fan as I’ve heard from all of you after we put a whooping on yall year in and year out, but to me, it looks like georgia’s got your number when it comes to football.

Reality stinks stinks

June 16th, 2010
8:42 am

Alot of dumb stuff being said in these comments. First of all, fellow Tech fans, the rivalry is called Clean Old Fashioned Hate for a reason. We can’t just “get along”. We hate them, they hate us, that’s why it is such a classic rivalry. You really should understand that before you take the holier-than-thou approach with a UGA fan. Second of all, UGA has DOMINATED us at football for the last decade. Trying to make excuses for that or point out stuff to make it seem like they have an inferior football program is stupid because it is wrong. UGA is a school that values it’s football program as much as it’s academic programs. Maybe more. Okay, they’d be an NFL team if it wasn’t so legally challenging. But the point remains, we aren’t better than them at football historically speaking.

What you CAN say to a UGA fan is that our present football team will become a much more significant challenge than they are used to. Get caught off guard and we’ll put 45 points up, we do it to everyone and anyone. UGA’s ONLY national championship was 30 years ago, our MOST RECENT one was only 20 years ago. Our coach is a great offensive mind, and he’s going to call all of the trick gimmick high school plays in the book if they score points, because scoring points is what the game is about. It is a put up or shut up game and you have to adapt to that, there is no time for crying about it. As far as the last two games, we beat you with your worst DC ever, you beat us with ours, we’re on equal ground there, don’t b*tch about that either. Your worst team in decades beat the ACC champs, our team that couldn’t get to the ACCG beat your preaseason No.2 ranked “national contender”. Sh*t happens. This should just go to show you that you aren’t the only dog in the fight anymore.

That said, our O-line does not need to be exceptionally large, or larger than our opponent’s D-line at all. We use cut blocking to clear lanes, which mitigates much of the size advantage, and our constant ground game to keep pass rushers dedicated to stopping the run. It is true that a D-line that is too large will just blow us up, but we are not the only the only football program with that problem (UGA fans, that’s a universal problem). Our O-line should show improvement under CPJ year to year because most of it is skill based, and anybody can pack on a few extra pounds with some hard work.

GO JACKETS.

The DL should be OK. DE was a strength last year, and should be this year, even without Morgan. The key is that the DTs must be suitable for nose tackle. Barnes fits the profile at 6′7 and 340+, but he was a RS freshman last year; he did get quite a bit of playing time. Walls and Anderson are undersized, 6′3 and 6′2″ and under 290. Buckhead Bulldog –
Those are good questions. The most likely candidate to be anything like Thomas is Stephen Hill, taller than Thomas but 30 lbs lighter. The Dwyer replacement is more clear. Anthony Allen has been moved from A-back. Allen is 6′ 230 lbs. Dwyer had 1395 yards, 5.9 avg, 14 TDs. Allen had 618, 9.7 and 6.

All of the backups at A & Bback return.

I didn’t reply to the second comment. Georgia Tech did not pass to A-backs very much last year. Allen caught 5, Peeples caught 8 (1 was an 87 yd TD that Johnson made up on the sideline.) I’ve read he’s putting in more pass plays for the A-backs.

Buckhead Bulldog, Reality Stinks and accomplish really do not really go hand in hand to put in layman speak. I could be wrong, unlike Mr. Reality, but would imagine the this individual has probably accomplished very little in his life and lives his life through his Ga. Bulldogs. By the “garbage” that you refer to that he speaks here onw would only hope he did not graduate from Georgia or honestly any so called college as he would bring nothing but embarassment to what ever school he attended. This persons whole self image comes from a college football team that he has already stated he could care less what kind of students they are, and even suggest the GT should follow suit and “dumb down” to get better atheletes. In effect he is the epitome of the major Ga. fan base. They have very little success and accomplishments of their own so they live their lives through their 18 to 22 year old football players. They take more happiness in ripping on others, than going to their on blogs to talk about their own team and in this case being positive and talking about what seems to be a great recruiting class so far. Now, as I have stated I have several, three to be exact Ga. graduates friends that can be irritating at times, but they are people that I consider that have good character and are fun to play golf with and talk to. In our discussions we have talked about “fans” like Reality, and to be honest most of these Ga. graduates know that these people reflect poorly on UGA. Reality by his own admission says we should dumb down to try and get better, just like the Dogs do…says we are not really trying to be any better. This is why Ga., and alot of schools are looked upon as football factories and the university is looked on as somewhat of a joke. In fact outside of its Vet school, which I understand is top notch, Ga. really does not impress me at all, and from what I have learned is not that all impressive to others outside the state of Ga. As I said, I am a graduate of Tulane, but my father went to Tech and have been a life long fan. Listen, each school has its on mission, but Reality calling Tech hypocrites? Is he kidding? I am sorry to be personal, but I doubt this guy really has the intelligence to think more than one dimensional. Also, Ga. cannot have it both ways also. Asking “how many points to do receive in making a three point shot” , well, you should see my point. The main point here, is that I find that people, no matter what their age, that have to live their life through a college football team to receive any “self worth”, to feel good about themselves by coming on to others blogs and ripping on them, well these people need to get a clue and get a friggin life, as it apparent they have none now. This is for all fans, whom ever they pull for. Try being positive about something in your life, as we are all positive that you got the negative thing down real well.

4jacks

This is your friend Reality here I called a publisher today and sent him that book you wrote at 5:17 this morning called:

“How to Stay Positive In Life When Your Team Lets You Down”
Forwarded by Dr. Phil

Again 4jacks what is so hypocritical is you and other Tech fans from past posts on here and on our blogs want to make your comments about UGA’s academics, their thug ballplayers, redneck trailer trash fans, etc. etc. etc. And when I come on here and give you a taste of your own medicine you and others don’t like it.

You people say I stoop to low levels and yet you Techies want to take personal shots instead of team shots. Then when I make a personal shot back, you want to get on your high horse and call me an uneducated low life who lives through his football team

I have tried to make observations about your team strengths and weaknesses in the past but like usual you want act like idiots and call me stupid, redneck etc etc etc….

Let me tell you and the rest of you wanna bee mouth running knuckle heads and thats including your arrogant coach, learn to shut your mouth go out and play ball and do your mouth running on the field and we wouldnt have a problem.

Dont make your comments like your arrogant wanna “bee” Coach that we have other fish to fry and someone go and punch a UGA fan in the mouth

Sorry you Techies act like a bunch of whinning 3yr old girls who got her doll taken away when someone makes a remark about your team. Personally I get a kick out of some of Tech fans remarks about UGA but I guess we have some people on here who cant take it.

Mommy must not like to stay up at night drying your tears

Now like I said before Reality Stinks being a Tech fan

Lay off of reality Stinks. He is a frustrated UGA fan with (obviously) alot of time on his hand…probably unemployed.

O-line will get better as the year progresses and they will destroy UGA’s “D” in Athens in November.

You know Reality, even if the Tech football team is underacheiving relative to our standards (which I strongly disagree with), us Tech grads still have plenty that keeps our reality from “stinking.” Unlike uga fans, our emotional well-being is not tied to what a bunch of 18-23 year olds do in the fall. We have excellent careers and the financial ability to enjoy many other hobbies. Thus, we don’t spend our entire days on an opposing teams blog trying to brag about what a bunch of kids (not related to them) did 7 months ago. Seriously, you might need some help.

and “Coach Small Johnson” is original? What is actually original is having a saint for a coach and having the greatest number of arrests come from players on that coach’s team. That is original. Also kicking a player off the team that was not going to start while actively recruiting a player commiting a similar offense is also original. Oh wait, it’s not; he learned that from St Bowden.

Also, it says I am efficient in getting my work done so that I can read about the football team that I am a fan of, not a team that I see once a year.

I don’t drink the Koolaide either. Coach Johnson has NOT recruited any big uglies for either side of the ball….. If he can’t recruit, we will NOT win, even if it is in the ACC……

Pat Forde on the ACC regarding conference realignment.

“ACC. The good news: It didn’t get raided during this realignment spasm. The bad news: None of its schools is attractive enough to raid. League is now free to return to figuring out how to become relevant in football.”
