What’s going on Monday and what’s at stake

If Georgia Tech defeats Alabama on Monday in the elimination game of the regional, it will host either Auburn or Clemson in the super regional. The Jackets are 3-1 against Clemson this year, with the Tigers winning their recent game in the ACC tournament, 3-1.

The schedules for the super regional will be announced on Monday night. The best-of-three series will start on Friday on Saturday.

Tech last hosted a super regional in 2006, which also was the last time it went to the College World Series. The Jackets have played in five super regionals in the past 10 years, also advancing to Omaha in 2002.

Also going on Monday night is baseball’s amateur draft. Tech pitcher Deck McGuire is projected to be a top-10 selection.

Also to be release either Monday or Tuesday are the details of how Tech plans to honor its 1990 national championship football team.

Oh, and there’s all that expansion stuff floating around out there.

Keep reading the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and ajc.com, it promises to be an interesting day.

You can follow my coverage of the game and the draft on twitter @ajcgatech.

Someone tell Danny Hall that the game is on Tuesday and we’ve got a shot to not choke it away this year.

Please God not another left handed pitcher tomorrow for Bama! That kid tonight pitched a helluva game and he had some help from the umps with an expanded strike zone.

Tomorrow is for all the marbles so…

Go Jackets!

Buzz29 …. as long as it’s a Southpaw on the mound, GT’s hitters will make him look like a world-beater. I’ve seen 3 or 4 games this season when they’ve faced “Southies” and they seem to forget the fundamentals of hitting. D Hall is to GT what B Cox is to the Braves …. loses too many games to inferior teams, and chokes too often when it really counts.

Bama most certainly beats GT on Monday if their coach is smart enough to send nothing but “southies” to the mound – even if it takes 5 of them. He should keep sending them out until GT proves they can beat one! I don’t know how GT’s lineup has so many .300 hitters in it as undisciplined as they are at the plate!

If you are at the game then don’t twitter about it! Start a Blog and let us all talk about the game on ajc.com. Twitter is crap. The behind the plate UMP in the Bama v Mercer game wanted Bama to win judging by the Strikes called, and it didn’t get much better in the Tech v Bama game.

I’m not saying Danny Hall is a great coach but it’s not his fault we lost last night. How many of us bloggers has ever tried to hit a 90 mph slider going away at the knees? Probably not many. Even the ball Skoale creamed was a nasty pitch.

Support this team!

Go Jackets!

Aren’t there ANY right-handed hitters on TECH who can play????????

I mean, I understand you play the guys who “got you there” and all that.

But, when every left-handed pitcher completely dominates TECH – shouldn’t Hall, at least, consider playing some of the right-handed (bench) players. Just for 1 game.

When your 6 left-handed hitting starters are cumulatively 4 for 5,678 in their last 5,678 at bats against left-handed pitching… shouldn’t a Manager go to the bench??????????????????

Did someone say BUSH LEAGUE!!!!!

It’s just amazing how all our teams seem to choke in the post season. Not sure why, but hopefully our team will actually show up tonight and take care of business. We’ve all seen this one too many times, so start playing like you want it for crying out loud. Go out and kick their butts!!!!

The team actually has a very good record against left-handed starters, 21-8, or thereabouts.

I’ve said this before, but it’s hard to get to the superregionals in baseball. Unlike basketball or football, it only takes one locked-in player to completely shut down an entire team. Alabama had that player last night. Tech had it the first two nights. It’s part of the fun, and frustration, of the game.

Kimz, you are right!! I was at the Mercer/ala game. Standing along the fence on first base side. Mercer had first and 3rd 2 outs 3/2 count to their best hitter and hitter checks swing/ump delays and then calls a swinging 3rd strike. I had a perfect view/not even close but ump couldn’t even ask for help. Same thing in 9th as Mercer batter took 3/2 pitch and was 1/3 down the line when the same ump all of a sudden goes strike 3. These umps are not held accountable. Not saying Bama is not the better team but Mercer had no chance.

I sat right behind the plate last night, and the worst thing about it was the inconsistency of the ump. A ball just off the plate was a strike half the time and a ball half the time. He changed his mind every batter. In the first inning after the first two HRs we got two strikes on the next two batters and had pitches that were called strikes later in the game but not on those two. They both got on and were followed with a 3 run HR. That was your ballgame. Our freshman who came in in relief pitched great and saved the rest of our bullpen for tonight. I’m predicting a GT victory tonight and then we finish off the state of Alabama by beating Auburn next week. GO JACKETS!!!!

Tech wins it going away. Tech is Flagship program in the state and in the South… if not the entire NATION!! Tech gets it done EVERY year. They are loaded with talented arms and bats. Danny Hall has been there before and knows what to do.
There is no way that they do not win tonight. some of you folks are acting like it’s still 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, or 2009. It’s a new decade people and Tech will prove to everyone tonight what Tech baseball is all about!!!

Well, our starting pitcher has given up 8 runs in 4 innings and he’s still in the game. Bama has given up 6 runs and is on their third pitcher. Last night we gave up 5 in the first and our starter was still in during the second until he walked the first batter. Hall is looking more and more like Cox every day.

Maybe Hall knows something you don’t. Or maybe you should coach the team; you should have no trouble convincing DRad that you’re the (real) man for the job.

Technophobia

June 7th, 2010

Ok, so we pull the starter after he walks a guy in the 6th. Reliever comes in and gets the first guy on a line out. Then he walks 3 in a row, the last 2 on four straight balls and walks in the go ahead run for Bama. Hall brings in another reliever who gets the next 2 batters but Bama adds a run on a ground ball out. If we lose this game it’s all on Hall.
