A few baseball notes from the Atlanta regional

Some quick notes about the NCAA regionals, courtesy of Georgia Tech’ SID:

There are three ACC vs. SEC winner’s bracket match-ups today. They are all night games.

Georgia Tech vs. Alabama

Virginia vs. Mississippi

Auburn vs. Clemson

Records of BCS Conferences Friday:

SEC 8-0

Pac 10 6-2

ACC 6-2

Big 12 3-2

Big East 1-2

Big Ten 1-0

No. 1 seeds went 15-1 on Friday.

Of the 32 first-round games yesterday, four were shutouts:

Georgia Tech 10, Mercer 0

Coastal Carolina 6, Stony Brook 0

Texas 11, Rider 0

La.-Lafayette 1, Rice 0

Friday was a good day for schools that also participated in BCS bowl games. Georgia Tech, Alabama, Florida, Texas, Oregon and TCU all won.

I’m not sure what to expect tonight. I wrote in today’s paper that it could be a pitcher’s duel. But after both teams hit the ball so well yesterday, who knows?

The wind is blowing out, which is good news for Tech’s lefty-heavy lineup. Balls don’t need a lot of help getting out of Russ Chandler’s right field as it is.

Tech needs two home runs to break the school’s single-season record of 119.

Allsportsdiscussion.com ranked the ACC’s top five running backs. Guess where Anthony Allen is? http://www.allsportsdiscussion.com/2010/06/Ranking-the-ACCs-5-best-running-backs-.aspx

Need to put A Allen’s link on Mark Bradleys section as he don’t believe Allen can cut it.

Follow tweet’s from tonight’s game @ajcgatech

For what it’s worth, I think Tech will be fine with Allen at B-back.

Interesting take on AA. The article is right that he will get incredible Heisman consideration if he can maintain a roughly 10 yd/carry average. However, given his new position at b-back, he probably won’t average near that in YPC. But they are correct in saying he is shiftier than JD (look at his yardage after contact), which could be very helpful at b-back. Should have a plenty productive season back there.

In other news, Deck McGuire will have a huge night tonight. And so will Tech’s lineup. Pretty sure Bama doesn’t have a left-handed starter to throw at us, not like it would matter anyway. I do expect lots of crimson at the Rusty C, but they’ll all be gone by the 7th. Go Jackets!!!!

Worried about Deck. He hasn’t been sharp the last 3 or 4 starts. Would feel better with Bradley or Cumpton. If Tech falls behind early or gets sloppy fielding, they’ll be playing Mercer and then will have their backs to the wall. Somethin scares me about the Tide

If Deck gets through the first OK, I think he will be fine.

“@shane -

Don’t think Tech fans would say ‘he sucks.’ Maybe he ‘isn’t too bright’ for selecting ugag. Maybe ‘let’s see if he can stay out of jail in Athens, first.’ Maybe, ‘what class is he taking now – recreational sports?’”
