Two key numbers from Tech’s 6-2 loss to Virginia Tech in the ACC baseball tournament on Thursday:
2 home runs allowed by Deck McGuire (8-4), which accounted for three of the Hokies’ runs.
15 strikeouts for Georgia Tech batters.
“They jumped on us early, and got a couple of home runs and got us down,” coach Danny Hall said in a statement. “I felt like we were staying in the game, but we had no answer for [Justin] Wright. When we strikeout 15 times, he’s good. He just made it tough on us to put much together. It was Virginia Tech’s night.”
Tech has had issues with left-handers this year and Hokies’ southpaw Justin Wright tied them in knots, allowing just four hits.
The Yellow Jackets will be back at it at 8 p.m. tonight against N.C. State.
In other late events, the doubles tandem of Irina Falconi and Sasha Krupina were defeated in the NCAA tennis tournament in Athens.
Falconi and Guillermo Gomez are back at it today in the singles portion of the event.
