Irina Falconi, the No. 1 ranked college tennis player, defeated Washington’s Venise Chan 6-1, 6-4 on Friday in the third round of the NCAA Championship in Athens.
Guillermo Gomez was beaten by Stanford’s Bradley Klahn 6-4, 6-4.
Falconi will play Georgia’s Chelsey Gullickson at noon on Saturday in the fourth round. She defeated Gullickson twice this season: 6-2, 6-1 in October and 7-5, 6-0 in March.
Falconi, a sophomore, hasn’t lost since Feb. 13. She is 40-2 in singles this year. She is the third player in school history to reach 40 wins. Kristi Miller and 2008 NCAA singles champion Amanda McDowell are the others.

Some of you may have read that Georgia’s athletics assocation finished the year with a profit. Tech’s year-ending financial statement won’t be available until August.
