Clarification

Jeff,

Good points, except the UGA and Iowa teams last year were in no way inferior. They flat out manhandled Tech and were the better teams. Last year’s Tech team wouldn’t have won 8 games in the SEC or probably even the Big 10 last year.

Jeff

Oh, but Clarification, Reality and his friends all say that Georgia is soooooooooooooo overrated and sooooooooooooooooo overexposed and they all moaned and groaned last year about what a ‘crappy bowl opponent’ they drew and how as ACC champs you got ‘no respect because we got stuck with Iowa’.

They are often very hypocritical and two-faced, Clarification… you know and I know that Tech would be lucky to be 7-5 every year if they had to play in the SEC. Give Georgia a schedule with Duke, Virginia, UNC, Wake and NC State every year, we’d go 11-1 hands down.

Thanks for understanding college football… it’s something that Reality has yet to grasp.

Oh and Reality, you said this: “In fact, if the ONLY thing you have to hang your hat on is a win in ONE game of football with us and/or in ONE game of baseketball, well that is just plain sad!”

Then how come the ONLY thing Tech fans EVER hang their hat on is a win over Georgia once every decade or so???

Let’s face it Reality… head to head, Georgia OWNS your team in every sport across the board, and has for 40 years.

I try to root for both schools, I really do, but fans like Reality make it AWFULLY hard. Most of you Tech fans are fine, I respect your passion… idiots like Reality make you look bad, though.

Jeff

Oh and Reality, the sport is called “BASKETBALL” not “BASEKETBALL”. Must be that trade school education coming out…. wait, nevermind. Tech provides a good education…. Reality never went there. He went to East Bumble JUCO and just is a coattail Tech fan.

Could care less what the Georgia fans on this blog have to say, I think this was all done in good fun. And I too have a good feeling about this team. I think Paul Johnson will actually improve as more players that fit in his system mature. There is no doubt that he likes to mix it up and his offensive gameplan may benefit from not having to focus on getting superstars like Dwyer/Bebe enough touches. I think our offense will be a little less predictable and god knows the defense can’t get any worse. Go Jackets!

Jeff

May 26th, 2010
11:23 pm

GT Alum — well said. Your defense let you down in a lot of games last year (as did our UGA defense). I think the key for CPJ is to adjust his offense every year. Mix in more “non option” material, because every kid you recruit from here on out may not have option experience. A lot of kids come from spread sets and pro-style offenses in high school… don’t miss out on a top recruit because he may not be a perfect fit for a 100% option team.

And, IMHO, I think Johnson could also use a little more humility and less bravado… he talks a big game but he has never been a consistent 11-1, top-five, BCS-game-every-year coach. Let’s wait five years and build a track record at Tech before he talks a lot of smack.

I said it before and I’ll say it again… most Tech fans have a lot of class and passion and I wish them success EXCEPT in the final game of the year vs. UGA.

And Jeff, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Tech could go 8-4 in the SEC consistently, and 9-3 better years. Easy wins over Vandy, MSST, MS, ARK, KY and toss ups with Auburn, GA, and SC (this year). Notice I never said Tech could beat Alabama, Florida, or LSU consistently.

if ga tech played ole miss, KY and ARK most years, they would lose 75 percent of the time. the only teams you would beat 80 percent of the time from the SEC is vandy and miss st..the rest would whip ga tech musch like UGA does year in and year out. just way too much talent in the SEC for tech.

techs football team is getting worse. PJ is filling your team with DIV 1aa talent. i dont see how most of you tech fans cant be upset about this. the writing is on the wall. your coach never played football past grade school and he runs an high school offense that any good football player that wants to go pro would not want to be a part of. sorry guys but tech might win 6 or 7 this year and if nesbitt goes down, which could easily happen since the qb in that offense gets hit every play and gets hits hard.

” the UGA basketball teams (women AND men) beat Tech this year, and pretty much have consistently done so over the last few years… that UGA finished second in the SEC overall team sport standings this past year… that UGA has won multiple national championships in a lot of sports including golf, tennis, baseball, etc… and that Georgia has infinitely more possibilities and advantages due to its varied academic programs, incredible fan support, large alumni base, huge donations and grants and scholarship funds, and a beautiful campus?

Tech has some things to be proud of, but overall, I think Georgia has more… personal opinion.”

Jeff, let me throw some facts out at you and we can go from there.

Georgia Tech has been ranked in baseball the past 10 years. In those years, they are 13-13 against in the Bulldawgs, with 2 CWS and 8 Regionals. They have 8 alumni currently in the MLB with 18 more in the Minors. In basketball, the Yellow Jackets are 5-7 over the past 12 years, going to the NCAA Tourny 5 times. Consistently is a good word for it. For basketball, home court advantage decides who wins. Baseball tends to be a toss up, especially with the way Tech (and on the other end of the scale, Georgia the 24-5 shelling was not easy to watch) has been playing year in and year out. To say that the University of Georgia is BETTER than Georgia Tech at these two respective sports is laughable at best. Especially in basketball considering the finishes of the two programs over the past ten years. As good? Possible (in baseball). The stats show it and head-to-head the Bulldawgs hold their own.

You say Georgia Tech has SOME things to be proud of? We have a lot to be proud of. In the past two years, we have gone 20-7 in the past two seasons with Paul Johnson as the head of our football program, which is a very refreshing thought. Our basketball program (though I’m not thrilled with the coach) is finally back in the NCAA Tournament after a three year drought. Our baseball program is ranked 6th in the nation and on schedule to do well in the Regionals. Our softball team just lost to a very good Oregon team in the Regionals and we have arguably the best player in the country in Jen Yee. Our men’s and women’s teams were just knocked out of their respective tournaments, with a couple individuals still competing (Irina Falconi is the overall number 1 seed). Finally, our golf team will be in the NCAA Championships in about a week.

You seem to be a bright, individual which is encouraging to say the least out of all the other trash that gets posted on here, and you post a good argument. The University of Georgia will always be better overall at athletics due to the nature of the schools (the few sports – baseball, softball, and we’ll throw in tennis as Tech has seemed to have turned the corner could be the exceptions here) allow the Bulldawgs to recruit a wider range of students who have a wider range of interests in their academic lifestyles. However, Georgia Tech is holding its own, and the rigor and course-load of the students DO play a part, and to me, it is impressive that Tech can do so with the small recruiting pool we have in Division I Athletics but still maintaining our stature as a prestigious research institution.

ATL XMAN – You say he’s recruiting Div 1 – FCS football talent, yet why are they all 3-4 star recruits? Granted, they are not 5 star caliber like the powerhouses of Florida and Texas, but to say he’s recruiting lesser talent is irrelevant. Tech has recruiting lesser talent year in and year out. Demaryius Thomas, Roddy Jones, and Cooper Taylor were all three star recruits. Some two stars include Philip Wheeler, Mansfield Wrotto, Adam Oliverr, Gary Guyton, and Vance Walker. Chris Reis, who plays for the Superbowl Winning Saints wasn’t even ranked when he was signed. I’m pretty sure they were all decent talent, no?

im talking div 1aa players…guys that would be playing at Ga southern and furman elon..etc etc..where you will have a handful of NFL players if they are lucky…rated 2 stars mostly. click on tech players that PJ recruited( not gailys recruits like dwyer and nesbitt and bey bey) on offense and see what teams are recruiting them.

PJ recruits on offrense are not 3 star recruits, at least at the positon he wants them to play. look and see how many 3 stars on offense he has recruited and let me know. im telling you, tech is getting worse and you will be able to tell this year and next year is a no doubter since all of gailys recruits will be gone..

you will see what im talking about when tech hits the field aginst the other teams. once they are next to the players from the other teams you wont be able to help to notice the difference in size. and when the whistle blows you will then see how much weaker tech div 1aa players are compared to the div 1 players that the rest off the acc and sec teams are throwing out there.

pj is trying to get the better players but his style of offense is preventing him to land them. not his fault though he only knows high school football. doesnt know how to run a pro style offense as he is a very simple man. did great at ga southern

ATL XMAN – A nice list for you of our recruits and whoC recruited them:

Denzel McCoy – Alabama, FSU, LSU, Miami, ND
Isaiah Johnson – Georgia, Ole Miss, Ok State
Morgan Bailey – Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss
Ryan Ayers – Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, OU, Ok State
Shawn Green – FSU, Mich St, Ole Miss, Ok State
Anthony Williams – Auburn, FSU, LSU, Ole Miss
Jake Skole – FSU, Georgia, S. Carolina, Va Tech
Quayshawn Nealy – Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, Ole Miss,
Louis Young – BC, Iowa, Va Tech, West Va.

Those are all some no name schools. And we recruited where we needed to recruit. The only changes being made is B.J. Bostic to A-Back and Synjyn Days to QB. Next argument sir. And last season, our offense wasn’t really the problem if my memory serves me right.

i’m not even gonna comment on the uga/iowa comparison further other than to state that EVERYONE else in the college football world disagrees with u, as evidenced by the final rankings at the end of the 2009 season: iowa 7th, uga unranked. with georgia tech 13th, for the record. these are the kinds of silly points i hope to no longer see on ajc blogs in the future…

ATL XMAN – That’s kind of the point of Paul Johnson’s offense? Smaller, quicker linemen in order to move with the runners, is it not? And how can someone be a 2 star compared to other teams players? Scout just doesn’t hand out rankings for nothing. They actually do mean something believe it or not. At least to the mind of the masses. A four star recruit is a four star recruit no matter how you slice it. You can’t downgrade someone else’s recruit because of what school he chooses to go to. Thats called ignorance my friend.

well i feel sorry for iowa.

it probably means a lot to them (and the rest of the universe) that an anonymous sports fan thinks iowa is slow. and it probably hurts their feelings a little bit.

all they have to comfort them is an orange bowl win and a ranking of 7th in the country vs a bloggers opinion that uga would have “crushed” them.

they will no doubt work harder to win your love in the future, xman.

would a 8-5 record and shreveport bowl trip be enough or do they actually need to hire CMR as their coach?

Luke

May 27th, 2010
10:06 am

Again, our offense wasn’t the problem. We didn’t recruit for offense. But for the record, that leaves four.

And I would have liked to see UGA manhandle Iowa. Because as “slow” as you think they are, it doesn’t matter if you can’t get past their line. Adrian Clayborn? Yeah, he’s no pushover. And Iowa did was one of the nation’s leaders in INTs. Not sold on that argument either. But either way, UGA didn’t deserve to be there, so we’ll never know. Funny how that works, huh?

ATL XMAN – The real question is, are you following me? You make it sound like the option has never worked ever. Georgia from 2008 is a great example. Ohio State against Air Force this year.

It doesn’t work against the SEC and ACC? 20-7 in the past two years. They are 17-6 against the ACC/SEC combined.

as far as Iowa beating UGA..would never happen..at UGA that actually recruit players that are fast and strong. UGA can run through them and around them. plus Iowas defense would have had big time match up problems with uga fast running back and receivers to worry about where tech played to Iowas strength. the defline was living in the backfield of tech all game. tech never really had a chance that game. only if the iowa qb through an pick 6.

all you tech fans have to do is match up a recruit that is recruited by PJ to play on the offense. compare their weight, height and overall high school career to any of the UGA recruits that richt recruited or any other SEC or ACC team recruited and look how much the talent level drops and difference in weight and height. your guys will need to be redhirted 2 years before they can even hang with those guys so they wont get seriously injured while playing them. the offlinemen he has coming in are giving up 20 to 30 pounds or more. their quickness wont help as they wiil get flatten by the bigger quicker defensive linemen.pj qb’s are either too short and lite or too tall and skinny. bothe types will get get crushed from them beating OJ qb”s take every play. his running backs are mostly converted corners or qbs that are too dumb to play quarterback. and again are just too little to take the beating that dwyer took the past two years every play. even when the running back didnt have the ball. that no fun at all. Ga tech is in trouble starting this year..they might win 8 ganes but next year i will be surprised if they win 6 as they only play few div 1aa teams.
