Favors to Nets; Lawal to Thunder

How would Favors look in a Kings uniform?

How would Favors look in a Nets uniform?

SI.com posted its NBA mock draft Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after the Washington Wizards won the lottery and will get the top pick in this summer’s draft.

Ian Thomsen has two Tech big men going in the top 21: Derrick Favors at No. 3 to the Nets, and Gani Lawal at No. 21 to Oklahoma City. If you remember, ESPN didn’t have Lawal going in the first round of its last mock draft.

Of Favors, Thomsen writes:

The presence of Brook Lopez at center compels the choice of Favors, an active big man with the energy and range to help defend the paint. The blend of low-post skill from Lopez and the explosive athleticism of Favors — together with their shared length — should provide New Jersey with one of the league’s most intimidating front lines.

Of Lawal:

It was easy to forget about Lawal as he was overshadowed by Favors this year, but the Thunder will appreciate his soft hands and potential to score in the post. Will he show the upside of their previous wise draft picks?

He said this of another Atlanta native, Al-Farouq Aminu, whom he has going fifth to Sacramento:

Sacramento could use an athletic wing and Aminu — a frontcourt tweener — will provide length and explosiveness. He’s raw but the rebuilding Kings are in no real hurry, and in the meantime he’ll rebound and defend.

That would be great for both of them. Favors would get Playing time immediately with NJ, and good contract, and Lawal can work himself into the rotation on a solid team.

Favors >>> Lawal

The best part of the article, RE: Lawal’s “soft hands”. I guess they saw ZERO GT basketball games.

Don’t feel bad Already Sheard, I just looked at the whole mock draft and Kentucky has FIVE first rounders listed. They didn’t do so hot at the NCAA’s either.

3 is way to high for Favors, He’ll drop to around 15-20th pick.
Not enough skills (yet).

Sorry to say,I have seen the last of both Lawal and Favors. I do not watch that mess they call basketball in the NBA.It is a very sick sport.

I go with ESPN, I think that Lawal will go second round or later. He just doesn’t have 1st round potential, and really should have come back to school for one more year. If you think that’s a GT fan mentality, I thought Favors had the talent to move to the NBA now.

The mandatory one year in college thing should be dropped by the NBA, as it serves no purpose and is hurting colleges everywhere. If they want to take a run at the NBA out of high school, let them go, and let the kids that want to spend a few years in college (3-4) go there. Kentucky’s program rolled the dice on the one year wonders and have little coming back next year (including possibly losing the coach). There is blame to go around at all the institutions that try to buy a championship.

Navigator – 100% agree. It is a travesty, and it should be a source of utter humiliation to the NCAA. Those responsible in both the NCAA and the NBA should be tarred, feathered, beaten, waterboarded and tied to a stake in south Texas in a fire ant field until they agree to stop this nonsense.

Favors will be a beast..Lawal will be a disappointment..Not that great of mid range jumper and will have lots of shots blocked..A Joakim Noah as opposed to an Al Horford.-Except not as good as Noah.

It was 30-24, NOT 30-27. You’re giving Paul Johnson’s high school offense way too much credit!

Favors deserves to go as high as predicted. He was a different player down the stretch because he was playing at a hig level and not riding the pine with fouls. He was a beast in the ACC tournament. Favors has blue collar mentality and will make it in the NBA. If he goes by 2nd round I’d say that’s really good for him. But he will be around. He was a McD All American too. He had some good moves. Congrats to both and I’m glad they both were here.

Good luck to Hewitt and the “motion” offense. We need better off the ball movement on offense so lets see if this addresses it. If he fixes that, we can be dangerous. 4-6th best FG %age defense in the nation…gotta give props for that.

I think Lawal could be a Paul Hewitt special, much like Anthony Morrow and Mario West. Guys who seemed to make it at a much higher level than was predicted based on performance at GT. Lawal is a beast rebounder and defender and his offensive game has improved since he came to Tech. I think he is worth picking around number 20, but I’m not sure anyone will take a chance on him until the 2nd round. He would be a great fit with OKC because he wouldn’t have to shoulder any of the scoring load and they need a big man rebounder/defender.
