Tech will take on Northwestern in hoops

Georgia Tech’s men’s basketball team will play at Northwestern in the 12th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, officials announced today.

The game will be on Nov. 30. Time and TV will be announced later.

The ACC has won 10 of the 11 Challenges, winning 67 of the 108 games.

The Yellow Jackets did not play in last year’s challenge because they finished 12th in the league in the 2008-09 season. They are 4-6 in the Challenge, and have yet to face the Wildcats.

It’s all he’s got, so let him rant. If your football team had gone to Shreveport, your basketball team didn’t make the NIT, and your baseball team wasn’t even good enough to make their own conference tournament, you would take what you can get. Remember, according to UGA Tech is irrelavent, yet 2 games with Tech is all UGA talks about.

That game against Wisconsiun in 2001 was so sweet. We were down by 20 at the half. Slowly whittled it down until Halston Lane hit two free throws with 8 seconds left to give us our first lead of the game. And then Ed Nelson blocked Wisconsin’s first shot out of bounds; then the Badgers missed at the buzzer. (And then stupid Lane and Nelson both transferred.) We all rushed the court and I was on the ESPN highlight for about a quarter of a second.

This is great news! I will be at Welsh-Ryan Arena on November 30th to cheer on our Jackets. We had better be prepared and not go to sleep on Northwestern. They were in the running until the very end of the season for an at-large bid to the Big Dance. It will also be a great
opportunity for increasing our profile in the rich Chicagoland prep market. We have historically gotten some very good players out of this area- Iman Schumpert and Will Bynum come to mind-high quality individuals who have contributed to the Jackets’s basketball success.

What gets old is Tech fans comming on our blog and talking about their great victory a season ago against the greatest Defensive coach in the NCAA, you know Willie the Great Martinez.

So why dont you say the same thing to the Tech nerds who patron our blogs

Not to interrupt the fascinating GT-UGA banter, but does anyone know of a way to donate money to help out D’Andre Bell after he lost everything in the recent fire?

Oh Georgie… anything in this state that yall own is actually under joint custody of Tennessee and Florida… we will let Kentucky have the basketball court since they swept you….Tennessee and Tech can have Foley Field (I heard its a great place for a walk)… maybe Florida can have part of the Diamond if they sweep you too.

…it does get old, yet someone with the same moniker kept the “45-42 – glad it hurts so bad” theme going then entire year until UGA won back in Nov. 2009 on the UGA blog, so it probably is the same guy this year trying to “get GT’s goat” by doing the same thing over here. It’s OK, though, it’s just part of the 13 year old growing up…and you guys feed him by commenting directly to him…

Doug, it’s their life and all they have, but your right, banish their IP address. or list the address instead of the multiple names they go under. Sadly I’m sure those that do that never attended anywhere and are probably a little mentally unstable.

I agree with GT89 CE_MD – Can somebody post a way to get help/cash to D’Andre Bell. He was a great GT representative and I admired how hard he played the game. I would love to help him out.

GTS. I don’t know about that, but I do know tech’s been miserable as of late against the dawgs, i.e., loser of 8 out of the last 9 years in football. Also, a university that has a fan base that comes out in force (40,000) for this year’s G-Day spring game, sounds like a school that has an athletic program that’s in pretty good shape. Conversely, a school that has only 350 show up for their spring game (I know. There was some rain), sounds like a program that truly “has bitten the dust.” It’ll be another great year watching the nerds get excited about beating up on the crappy teams of the a she she, only to get waxed again in Athens!!

WEll if Tech had been in last year, the Big 10/11 would not have won the thing. But that’s OK. I think we’ll be better and with Hewitt’s focus on D and the motion offense, maybe we can end these scoring droughts. If Tech can end scoring droughts, then we have chance to have a great year.

Oh and that was hilarious Danny O.. nice assessment. I am pretty proud to be a Yellow Jacket these days. I can hold my head up high in all sports now. Not quite where we want to be in the big two, but we are getting there. LEt get back to the dance in hoops.

Oh and those of you who talk smack about Tech losing its bowl games. Did you know Tech takes off a long week for finals. No other team in the top last year did that to my knowledge. The heavy SEC programs would not think of it. But if you’ve ever been through finals at Tech, you’d know the players must be happy about it.

While we desire to play quality opponents, we must look at creating balance to allow our team the ability to peak at the proper time and give our team the best chance to win.

Hey Danny O, Lane wasn’t playing > Didn’t do anything wrong, but wasn’t Hewitt’s kind of player. Had to transfer if you remember he wasn’t even getting into some games. Kid only saved Hewitt’s rear about 5 times his frosh year ( remember Ky win?).Kid wasn’t stupid…just screwed by his coach. You can add Robert Brooks to that list among a few others……funny about St, Simon. Should be called St Simp.

Best quote ever!!! This from Kenny Anderson who just graduated from some podunk school.

“”I’d ask people for help,” Anderson said. “This wasn’t like college. They’d say, ‘I’ll give you an idea, but you have to do the work yourself.’”

LOL!!! Apparently Kenny isn’t used to doing his OWN work in college. Hmmm…..where did he attend school at for 2 years again? LOL!!!
