Packers select Morgan Burnett

Morgan Burnett was selected by Green Bay  in the third round of the NFL draft on Friday.

Burnett, a safety from Georgia Tech, was chosen 71st overall. The Packers traded up to slip in front of Buffalo, now led by the man who recruited Burnett to Tech, Chan Gailey, to get him.

After an All-American sophomore season when Burnett intercepted seven passes, he picked off four more as a junior. He finished his career at Tech with 14 interceptions and 235 tackles.

Charles Davis of the NFL Network said in January that Burnett’s size (6-1, 210 pounds) and ability to play safety or cornerback would enhance his appeal to NFL teams.

A native of College Park, Burnett was the third Georgia Tech player to be drafted, following Derrick Morgan going to Tennessee with the 16th pick and Demaryius Thomas to Denver with the 22nd pick.

He strained a hamstring just before the NFL Combine in Indianapolis in February and wasn’t able to work out for scouts. He recovered and seemed to impress scouts by running the 40 in 4.42 seconds a month later at Tech’s pro day. His time would have been the fastest for safeties at the combine.

Meanwhile, running back Jonathan Dwyer, at one time projected to be a first-round pick, hasn’t been selected. A toe injury sustained during the Orange Bowl hampered his training for the Combine, where he ran a relatively slow 40 time. But he bounced back at Tech’s pro day to run a 4.52, seven-thousandths faster than his time at the combine.

HAHAHAHAHAH! The dawgs suck. First pick in the 3rd round. Pathetic.

So, what do these facts lead YOU to conclude? Which school coaches will coach players up? Which school coaches players down?

That most of UGA’s talent is coming back. UGA has produced tons of NFL talent of the past few years. The fact few were drafted this year just means they are coming back.

We do have top ten classes most every year. Thats why we finish in the top ten most every year. 6 of the last 9

Did somebody strike a nerve Supersize? You’ve got one of the bigger Techie mouths on these here blogs. Don’t worry about those AA meetings. We’ve got enough sober players to beat your azzes like a drum damn near every year. Maybe Dwyer was drunk against us last year. That might explain his beer gut. 33 yards rushing against the ‘09 Georgia defense? And you morons wonder why the NFL won’t touch him with a 10 foot pole?

LOL @ Tech fans.

Hi, I’m a Tech grad of ‘73. I didn’t realize Burnett had so many interceptions. I knew he was good. We had a guy who lead the nation one year in interceptions when I was at Tech named Jeff Ford, a white guy from Satlllite Beach, FL. I suspect what might be going on with Dwyer is a conspiracy against Tech. All the NFL teams probably heard of Dwyer’s playing tricks on teammates such as filling their shoes with shaving cream. Nesbitt, Dwyer’s roommate, was quoted as saying “He’s gonna get his” during last season. That was proven around mid-season last year, around the time the article appeared quoting Nesbitt, when Nesbitt quit handing off to Dwyer and keept it for runs almost every time he got the ball from the center. Perhaps NFL teams want this to happen to Tech again next year, in some sort of competition with Tech.

Curran wasn’t being touted as a Heisman contender, Dwyer was. Yech has had all ACC defensive and offensive players the past 2 years, both of which were GAILEY’S players.

So what do these facts lead YOU to conclude? The Gobbler was left a treasure chest of talent, which is a good thing since his own talent transfers out.

rex, STFU, you a**le. It’s one thing to get on here and take (mostly) good-natured jabs at each others’ schools. But the last line of your post is total BS, and you know it. Dwyer’s so-called drug use was already well known and totally legal. It is administered to someone with a medical problem, and fools like you who make fun of something like that, or of people who had ADD are a total waste of human flesh. You make even the worst of the other mutts who post on here look like saints.

Is Dwyer being blackballed because of the option? If so, Tech will never get a good running back to play there again. If i’m a rb, im staying away. This is really bad and deserves an update

Here's your update

One of two things is happening here. A. Not a single NFL front office bought the lie, I mean “excuse,” that Tech offered to explain his drug use; or, B. He’s the most overrated RB in college football history and they’re smart enough to see it.

Take your pick

This is a little bizarre about Dwyer. For a long time he was projected to be a late 1st round, early 2nd round pick. Now he cant make the 4th round, or even possibly the 5th round? Something weird is going on. I wonder if that BS drug story turned alot of teams off.

Shane: Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story. NOSHOW Moreno stats: 897 yards 3.8 ypc 5 tds (not 7 moron), Longest run 36 yards, ZERO 100 yd games. NOSHOW’S last 3 games:
51 carries 123 yards 2.4 ypc. I would expect more out of a FIRST ROUND PICK (12th overall)
Correl Buckhalter was much more productive. In half the carries, he had 624 yards & a 5.5 ypc.
See if your baseball team can hold Tech to under 20 runs Tuesday night. Suck on that LOSER.

Tech didn’t have to explain anything to anybody. It’s in Dwyer’s medical records, his agent has the info; it was known even by the meatheads that started the rumor to begin with. Dwyer has had ADD and taken medication for it for years. HE HAS NO DRUG PROBLEM!!! And those a**les on here who keep spewing that crap about a drug problem would be sued for libel if you didn’t hide behind fake names. Your mothers should all have been slapped when you were born for bringing such pieces of s**t into this world.

HugoStiglitz

Dwyer was cleared by the NFL after their own investigation into the positive results. Do you morons really think everytime someone fails a drug test they just provide an explanation and everything is ok? Do you really hate Dwyer so much that you will just make up facts so that you can feel better?

groundhog, I hate to disappoint you, bubba, but Tech is still loaded at running back, and where Dwyer goes in the draft won’t affect in the least the attraction of Tech to quality running backs. Tech has had some pretty damn good rb’s for the last decade; Dwyer wasn’t the first. None of them have gone particularly high in the draft, but that sure didn’t keep us from getting replacements when they left. It won’t now either

actually, groundfog, it’s not all that crazy. Thomas was probably a bigger loss for Tech leaving school, than was Dwyer. We have running backs to replace Dwyer; replacements for Thomas are questionable. Although I think Stephen Hill is going to be just fine.

Dwyer was really good even under Gailey. The option excuse doesn’t cut it. Scultz etter do an articel becasue he said Dwyer would be fine. The kid thought he was a first round pick-it’s sad for him.

Obviously Dwyer does not have a drug problem, but maybe those reports early this week, even though incorrect, did end up hurting him. Something screwy is going on here, because he definitely has the talent.

Its not that weird for a punter to go over a RB in the 5th round. At this point teams are really just filling holes in their depth chart. Not alot of teams need RBs which is why only 8 have been taken in the draft. Its still weird for Dwyer to have slipped this far though.
