Derrick Favors decision could come soon

It’s been a week since Gani Lawal declared early for the NBA draft and fellow Georgia Tech forward Derrick Favors could follow suit soon himself. An announcement on the standout 6-10 freshman could come as early as today. Check back to ajc.com for details.

Favors, who averaged 12.4 points and 8.4 rebounds for Tech, is projected to go third overall in the draft by NBAdraft.net and fourth by draftexpress.com.

Go for it Derrick, you finished strong and we appreciate it. Just one thing, can you take Hewitt with you. He would fit in nicely with the NBA philosophy of no sideline direction to be given to the players!

NBA draft is a Joke! This guy has some talent, but he did not do anything worth being a number 3 of number 4 pick in the draft. Something has to be done about this. He needs to stay in school and try to develop into something like a NBA player!

There are already reports that he will sign an agent and declare….cant blame him. Favors will be a NBA all star within two years…book it. Hewitt better find some big guys fast….hopefully Miller, and Holsey can step up.

@ MR. C, he is probably the most sound player in this draft behind Walls..he is a post player. If you know anything about basketball post players rely on guards to get them the ball. GT didnt have strong guard play this year..actually they was quite weak. He will excel at the next level in my eyes because he dominated late in the season when it mattered and they still struggle to get him the ball.

Fire Paul Hewitt………..Radakovich needs to wake up and see the fans want a 1st class Coach with basketball IQ. Not a DA !

Derrick, don’t make the same mistake twice. Your first mistake was going to a pathetic GT basketball and athletics program. LEAVE NOW!

If you don’t, UGA will have to embarrass you again! Remember 73 – 66!!!!

Hopefully he leaves he wasn’t that good anyway and I don’t think he fits Paul Hewitt’s system at Tech.

not much traffic on the tech blog...

i find it extremely funny that there are more tech fans that post on uga blogs than on their own. that is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that they care more about what is going on w/georgia than their own team. i understand that nerds are always jealous of the popular jocks and people that actually hang out w/girls. but dont worry, puberty will hit you one day…

Another one and done. Way to build the program, Coach!

Tech needs a Coach that can COACH. Not one that talks the talk but can’t walk the walk. Someone that can put a mix of talent on the floor like Butler and Duke that will stay in school. Hewitt’s one and gone BS sucks. Get someone with class like Coach Johnson in Football. The program has sucked for years now. I refused to attend till PH is gone. This year was a one and done year and we still have Hewitt to look forward to next year, Bull Sh#@.
I’ve always been a GT fan but I have enjoyed the Hope and Spirit that Fox has brought to UGA. What a difference he has made.
Why not some NEW LIFE TO TECH?

Freshmen jocks who only attend classes in the Fall, with easy courses,—just enough to have athletic eligibility for the Spring without bothering with classes–should not be given athletic scholarships by Georgia Tech,or any other school in my opinion. They should be informed during the recruitment process that their academic process will be closely monitored each semester at GT and they will INSTANTLY lose their eligibility whenever class attendance and/or grades falls below what should be high GT standards, even if right in the middle of the season. I understand that NCAA standards are much lower, thus allowing for the so-called “student athletes” to make a mockery of things—too many “one and outs.” I’d much rather have players with an actual commitment to graduate from GT;probably they would be more coachable and actually have some loyalty to Georgia Tech. I say,no more “one and outs!” I think Bobby Knight would support this approach, but I doubt that Paul Hewitt does.

Agree with 11:52 and 11:53.

Coach Hewitt is the Problem and it will not change till he’s gone. What’s it going to take for AD to make the changes and get a real Coach.

Hope I live to see it.

All of you people on these stupid blogs knocking athletes for taking million dollar contracts have issues. If someone offered you one to two million a year to leave your old job, you’d be gone before he finished the sentence.

I think NCAA should not allow anyone to turn pro without a diploma. Think about it. some of these dudes are taking scholarships away for people who are good but not great. Those same people who are more academic oriented that athletic might just be the one that could find a cure for cancer, MS, COPD but we had rather use scholarships for a bunch of spoiled, rotten bratty boys to bounce a ball or catch a pass. This is reason I do not support sports from high school level to college.

Mr. C, you are a fool…..Favors is a beast!! He is every bit worthy of a top-5 draft pick. Better than Thaddeus Young was when he came out and went round 1, too.

Favors will be an all star…the only thing that held him back was the ACC refs…Big men in the ACC are not allowed to be stars in the ACC unless u play for Duke or NC..They will just call fouls

Paul Hewitt is like John Calipari he recruits top players and they leave early but the only difference between the two coaches is Calipari recruits better talented players and his a better coach.

I see another Tech player has decided he will never be better than “above average” material. UGA’s bball program sucks and we still owned you in that too. Dwyer, Burnett, Morgan, they all realized the same thing. btw if youre wondering “why in the world did Jaybo transfer and we’re not getting any good recruits, we were like 10th in the nation” its because no good offensive player that has any dream of playing on Sundays will play for Tech because no NFL team will want a player used to a scheme that they will never use.

here’s another possibility:

in the 90s Spurrier would tell recruits that were trying to decide between UGA and UF that if they went to Georgia they would never beat Florida. It worked.

Mark Richt has probably taking to saying to players considering UGA and North Avenue Trade School that if they attend GT they will never beat UGA and based on the last 44 years (during which you have beaten us less than 20 times, id call that domination) thats the truth

oh and if you’re still trying to fathum it, yes

our Willie outdid your Johnson
