Paul Hewitt has withdrawn from consideration to be St. John’s next basketball coach.
Hewitt is out of town on a recruiting trip and has not returned a message left on his cell phone at 10:33 a.m.
“My family and I have developed deep ties to Georgia Tech and the city of Atlanta,” Hewitt said in a statement released by Georgia Tech. “I strongly believe in what Georgia Tech can do for young people, and I am committed to returning the Tech basketball program to the level of success our fans have come to expect. We took a step in that direction this past season, and I fully intend to continue on that path.”
He is scheduled to meet with the media at 9:30 p.m. tonight.
“I think what has transpired over the last few days speaks volumes about Paul Hewitt and about Georgia Tech,” Tech athletics director Dan Radakovich said in a statement. “Paul’s credentials as a human being, a family man, a leader and a builder of character are impeccable. All of us at Georgia Tech are committed to assist him in providing an outstanding men’s basketball program.”
Hewitt is from the New York City area and is known as an outstanding recruiter. The Red Storm hoped that he could tap into the high school talent in the five boroughs that St. John’s in recent years hasn’t been able to keep from leaving to programs such as Connecticut and Cincinnati.
However, Hewitt has repeatedly said that he and his family are happy in Atlanta and that he was not looking to leave. His parents and younger brother recently moved to Atlanta. In addition, Tech opened a new practice facility last year, and is reviewing plans for a renovation of Alexander Memorial Coliseum that will cost at least $45 million.
“I would say it’s highly unlikely I’d go anywhere,” Hewitt said Tuesday afternoon.
He has been criticized by fans and boosters for not being able to lead Tech to better than a seventh-place finish in the ACC this season, despite having two potential NBA lottery picks on the roster in Gani Lawal and Derrick Favors. The Jackets advanced to the finals of the ACC tournament before being eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament by Ohio State. The finished the year 23-13, 7-9 in the ACC.
Hewitt is 177-144 at Tech, including 67-93 in the ACC in 10 seasons as the Jackets’ coach. He has led the Jackets to the NCAA tournament five times.
The Red Storm fired coach Norm Roberts last week after six seasons. They reportedly offered the job to Florida’s Billy Donovan last week, but were rebuffed.

tell me when ugag has ever beat a gt team at our place that was preseason no 1. how about NEVER. i would say that is beyond pathetic wouldnt you?
more reasons why the dogs are pathetic….
- they cheat lie and steal
- they are on probation more often than not
- their graduation rates in all sports are less than gt’s
- they have a top 5 recruiting class EVERY year yet they underachieve every year
- university of florida
- they average around 10 + student athlete arrests each and every year
- they had to GIVE the answers to the pharmacy test to their grads so they could pass
- the jim harrick jr basketball final is legendary
- their fans routinely urinate in their library unfortunately not in the urinals or toilets
- their fans leave hundreds of tons of trash each year on their campus after games
- a recent nbc broadcast crew said that the fan behavior at ugag was the worst they had experienced in 50 years of doing broadcasts
- dozens of fans are arrested after ever game
- their baseball team turned the sprinklers on the gt baseball team after a loss at their place. counterpoint…. the gt team was helped to raise money for a uga player who was paralyzed.
- they had a coach an former ad named vince dooley
they lick their own nads

This is going to be a set back for the program. I know everyone is jumping for joy, but it is never good for a program when a coach quits on them. Further, it will mean most of our players will leave early for the NBA, and we will be left with a depleted squad next year. It is always a fan’s perspective that their program is one of the best jobs in the nation, but the truth is, our coaching position is not even the tops in our conference – more like the middle of the pack. We are not a top 20 program. We struggled to break in to it with a great team this year, and this move by CPH means we are going to struggle for the next few years. I, for one, am realistic about this.

No way Iman is ready to go. If the NBA drafted for defense, Ismail Muhammad wouldn’t be stuck in europe right now. Hewitt is a nice guy but one winning conf record in ten years is not pretty. Sean : Get your facts straight. Cremins resigned from Tech and worked several years was as a TV analyst before coming out of retirement to take the Charleston job. Outside of that championship game you talk so much about, what else has Hewitt done at Tech. OH, I’ll be glad to tell you. He has never won an ACC championship in his ten years at Tech; the highest he ever finished was third and that was only one time. Hewitt’s only won 42% of his ACC games. Since the 2005 season, he’s only won 38% of his ACC games. And outside of the championship game you like to talk about, he’s never even reached a sweet sixteen in the NCAA tournament. I have never seen a major college team so discombobulated by a full court press since John Wooden invented the thing 50 years ago. I stared at the TV in amazement in the ACC tournament game against MD when GT embarassed themselves so badly. Does anybody coach at GT?
Sadly, it was not a one-time deal. Ever since Hewitt came on board, GT has been totally disorganized on the court. It’s like they have no plan at all.
But the essential problem is Hewitt in incapable of building a program. Sure he pulls an upset here and there. Who couldn’t with all that talent? But, the talent is, unfortunately, all one and dones. No great high school player is going to go to GT and stay four years all the while taking courses in Chemical Engineering. But they will all come for one year to play in the ACC, getting a lot of airtime, and then moving on to the NBA.
What a mess.

I think he’s been a fine representative of the school, but you do have to perform up to the standards that you expect for your program. And, no one ever said the grass is always greener, but that doesn’t mean you don’t try to improve when you haven’t met expectations. Sean: How damn ignorant are you? Cremins won three ACC championships genius! By Cremins fourth year, he won an ACC championship and an elite eight finish in the NCAA tournament. And, that was after he resurrected the worst basketball program in the ACC and probably all of college basketball. And, then Cremins takes his 1990 team to the final four and he reached the sweet sixteen three additional times. If you weren’t so ignorant of the facts, I would just laugh.

Sean,
Cremins won 3 ACC championships, and lost 2 others by 1 point. Hewitt has never won an ACC championship. Also, Cremins last 4 years were no worse that Hewitt’s last 4 before this year. As recently as 1996, Tech won the ACC regular season at 13-3. Hewitt never won 10 games in a year.
So it is you who doesn’t have their facts straight.

Don’t know how the expectation for GT ever got so high; but GT is not a consistent top 25 team. Occasionally they have the talent to compete with NC, Duke and the others. I think PH did a pretty good job but it’s time to move on; the media started this and the fan base jumped in. PH did not do himself any favors (no pun intended) when the team under-performed both on the freethrow line and in-bounding the ball. most of the games were painful to watch. Good luck PH, hopefully you can turn SJ into a powerhouse once again.

The instant St. John’s asked for permission to speak with Hewitt the game was up and the bird had already flown. He can’t stand up in the winds of high expectations and resentment that will blow through the cavernous, nearly empty Alexander Memorial Colesium. If he’s back, it will be for less than a year.

Have to agree with NoCoachBlewitt. Until the debacle of last years last-place ACC finish, the media in Atlanta were supportive to the point of indulgence of this coach. Situationally they would rightfully question some of the early exits from the NCAA or game decisions, but no one even suggested he should lose his job or make big changes. We can speculate why they gave him so much slack, but what they inadvertently did was give him so much more rope to hang himself. When he turned on him and the fans, then we knew he was desperate.

Radakovich is savvy, pragmatic, and professional. He most assuredly has been privately speaking with Hewitt about this situation for sometime but he has correctly kept it private. By keeping it private it has enabled other schools to approach Hewitt…schools Hewitt might actually consider like St. Johns. If DRad had put this bidness out on the street the only schools interested in Hewitt are schools that he wouldn’t stoop to work for….and Tech would be stuck with the golden albatross of a contract.

Freedom23 while its true we aren’t Duke or UNC….its unfair to say we don’t consistently have the talent to do well in the ACC. GT has gotten more talent than all other ACC schools with the exception of UNC and Duke in the last ten years. GT is a top ten school in producing NBA talent but we are the only school in the top ten with out a National Title. Gary Williams gets comparable to below our average talent yet he never has 3-13 records in the ACC. GT will always get the top talent due to its location, conference, and history of putting players in the NBA…..we just need the right coach.

The only way another team gets to talk to the coach is if the coach tells the AD-if they call, i’d like to talk with them. Thanks Sean – apparently you’re the only objective person on this blog. If all these other people (incl TomB) would remember correctly, they couldn’t run Cremins out of here fast enough. But here’s the bottom line, sometimes things just run their course. I think Coach H. did his best — and sometimes, someone else just has to take the reins. If the appreciation for his hard work is not here, then so-be-it! Everyone cut their losses and go their separate ways and let the chips fall where they may. I’m all for reaching and having high expectations. But let’s not act like GA Tech basketball is in the gutter. If I’m not mistaken, a lot of other top programs are out of the big dance as well.

It’s amazing how a matter of perception is viewed from one University/fan base to another. It’s comical to think that St. Johns would put so much value on Hewitt’s under achievements at Tech. He clearly has performed at a low level, while fooling folks (outside of GA) by his recruiting prowess.
He certainly is a very likable, well spoken, and impressive man, but he clearly lacks the dedication to owning up to his weaknesses. It was quite obvious recently by his unprofessional cries/please that it was past time for Paul to move on.
The reality is this, Tech will be much better off without Hewitt and the need to strongly focus on hiring a “system based” coach that can plug in players and still be successful. Highly regarded recruits are nice on the surface, but a disciplined tactician is what the Jackets need.
Hope Hewitt can take the heat in NY…Good luck!
Recruiting won't suffer
March 25th, 2010
1:24 pm
Folks have suggested that the recruiting on this team will suffer as a result of CPH not leaving. Not true. This year’s class of highly touted freshmen (not including Oliver) are from Georgia. They were lured here due to staying in-state at an ACC high major school that has a long-standing tradition of sending kids to the pros. Gani is also from Georgia. As long as GA continues to produce bball talent, GaTech recruiting will be OK. Now I only wish CPH had convinced Travis Leslie to attend Tech.

I just hope we do not find ourselves in the position of Auburn football, i.e., that the position looks a lot more attractive to the fan base than to the coaching fraternity. It is always going to be difficult to recruit at Tech and if the fans are this disgruntled with five NCAA appearances in ten years, we may find ourselves a perpetual stepping stone to something else.

GA Tech Fan: you aren’t. Sean: you might be objective about some things but until you get off your knees I don’t think anyone could say that Hewitt was one of those things. Hewitt is not a bad man. No one seriously thinks he is. He is not a good coach either by ACC standards. And he is not a good leader by Ga. Tech standards. The basketball team is not in the gutter record-wise this year, but having one of the lowest graduation-rates in the country (discounting the early NBA departures even) is pretty much gutter territory otherwise.

About Paul Hewitt:
(credit goes to various sources for some of these points)
1) In the last 5 years (including this year), he is 76-74. With all of the McDonalds All Americans and future NBA players, he is two games over .500 in all games, which include 8 or so each year against the likes of Arkansas Pine-Bluff
and Winston Salem State.
2) In his entire 10 years, he is 26 games under .500 in regular season ACC games, and has only one season over .500 (9-7 in 2004).
3) In his entire 10 years, he has a winning record against 3 ACC schools and a losing record against the other 8.
4) He also has a losing record against mostly poor UGA teams.
5) “This seventh-seeded Tech team cannot dribble, cannot pass, cannot hit free throws, cannot exploit a massive size and talent advantage when it has one, cannot inbound the ball to save its life” – Pat Forde ESPN article that sums up
our coach brillianty
6) TV commentators talking during the tourney saying things like, “This has to be one of the most talented teams in the country…they look like world beaters…this has to be the most sloppy and undisciplined basketball team we’ve seen
this year…this team has to be very frustrating to watch for the Tech fans…”
7) Tech set a record for # of turnovers and missed free throws in the 57th ACC tourney, plus the announcers used the ineptness of simply getting the ball in bounds as a running joke on TV, embarrassing.
Shooting % in 2008-2009 under Dennis Felton was 63.8%. This year under Mark Fox? 71.8%. The Dawgs even lost their best FT shooter in Terrance Woodbury (83.9%) but still managed to improve 8 percentage points (for those of you interested,
that is a statistically significant improvement). Consider these improved numbers: Travis Leslie went from 57.5% to 73.5%, Dustin Ware from 68.4% to 82.2%, Jeremy Price from 52.2% to 69.4%, Chris Barnes from 43.7% to 56.1%, etc. In fact,
EVERYONE who played on last year’s team improved their free throw shooting percentage this year. Coincidence? Let’s also not forget that Mark Fox’s previous teams at Nevada also shot the ball well from the charity stripe: over 70% during
his tenure there.
It’s truely unfortunate that the admin have let it get to this point. They clearly are aware that blind loyalty turned to mass appathy turned to vocal majority long ago. They are telling us that we didn’t scream it enough yet. I love my
Jackets, have NEVER spoke out against a coach, but this coach has to go, like 8 years ago….

I have been one to criticize the performance of the Jackets this season and wondered if Coach Hewitt was the reason for the Jackets’s demise. Maybe. But giving coach credit, the Jackets could be in a worse predicament without him. The blue-chippers that he is capable of recruiting to Tech is understated. Atlanta is a great recruiting tool to have, and yet we have only been able to acquire bits and pieces for a championship caliber team…this year lacking a point guard. Let’s give him a little credit here. I would like to see the University make more of an effort to make Tech as attractive as a school to play for as does Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, UNC (which is in the NIT), and even Michigan St. If he goes Tech will have its work cut out and would have to have another great recruiter and motivator in place. Look at the dynamics of basketball now. No great player hardly stays in a program long enough for a team to develop. Recommendation if goes: Mike Anderson. If Coach Hewitt goes, thanks for the memories…wow, the players! Go Jackets!

Hewitt might get rich from getting fired, but he will NOT be an attractive candidate for another high profile school with the way he’ll be vilified for another year. This is going to do serious damage to our program. Appathy turned to serious dislike a long time ago…we held our breath…and….nothing…lets turn the heat up…get ugly folks!!!
If we have to ‘fire’ him and he gets paid the full payout of his contract, I will officially wish him the worst karma I can wish for his basketball dreams, because he is wishing the worst for GT’s. A wish returned, that’s Karma.

I can only pray that DRad knows enough about a fan base to realize it’s going to be VERY ugly the next year. Appathy was last year. This year is going to be really bad. It will make the situation much worse over all. Have to let the man go before the fan base revolts more than we have. The only people who are supporting him for a long time on these blogs are 1) uga trolls 2) fans who aren’t aware of the full history 3) people who have an agenda unrelated to basketball (just a theory)

I feel sorry for PHewitt, but the situation is not unlike Cremins that wanted to take the South Carolina job, and wife said without her, and he came back on his knees. PHewitt wants to take the St. Johns job so he has another 5 years to prove himself, and his wife won’t go. Now he’s going out the back door next year after he has another losing season. That’s sad, maybe his wife is going to get him another job down here, now there’s a family not living in the real world.

Logically thinking who can GT bring in to replace Coach Hewitt, that will bring in the players that he has brought in to this program to make it successful. The education requirements are high and I know that Duke University are also high but their players that they are recruiting are staying 4 years, what can Hewitt do to induce his players the likes of Derek Favors or Gani Lawal to stay for 4 years, Coach K doesn’t go after those type of athlete, who has left Duke early beside Lual Dang and he is successful in the NBA but not alot of other Duke players stay that long or reach the greatness of Chis Bosh could you compare Dang to him or the great Christian Lattner, how long did he stay. So all you Jackets fan you are to be thankful if Hewitt stays if not to the cellar you will go if you really take a look at the dynamics of their program. Who will come.

Hold off on the hatred, folks. Three things to remember: (1) Coach Hewitt is committed to doing the best job he can for Georgia Tech (2) Coach Hewitt has made promise to his team and to recruits to “not bail on them” (3) Coach Hewitt is entitled to be where he wants to be and in a place where he AND his family are going to be happy. Isn’t that what we all strive for? For a decent and honorable man to realize that the imagined ‘perfect scenario’ may not always be the right option, we as the Tech community should be glad to have him as part of the family.

So disappointing. Why would Hewitt turn down a six year contract to get fired next year. It must be for the money, although he says it is not. This is very frustrating. Maybe St. John’s told him that they expected him to actually win more games than he losses in the Big East?
And, I doubt that they would be dumb enough to garrantee him 6 years.
Finally, DRad probably wanted the payback because, after all, a contract is a contract.
All in all, I hope Hewitt has learned that he is expected to produce results.

Hewitt, to his credit has brought in some unbelievable talent. He has coached a team to the Final Four and a championship game. The problem again is getting enought talent into the program to last a few years. The college game has changed since Cremins days. I know. I watched it unfold. No one has mentioned the lack of aggressiveness by the university to bring in more than one player a year. Next year there is another stud coming, from the East Coast no doubt. Hmmm…we can only hope that along with coach, the university can assist with keeping one or two of our potential 1st-rounders to stay. Give coach a little bit of credit here. Go Jackets!

Should Favors really go…he can play in the NBA sure, but the media has prompted projections and speculation as they always do that he should leave. Really, he should get another year under his belt because PF will be tough on him in the NBA, just as it is for a less talented 2million dollar Thaddeus Young who avg’s 12ppg after 3 years. Hmmm

It’s not the engineering degree that matters. It is the overall environment. Tech consists of several schools in which an athlete can pursue a degree. Tech is ranked among the top ten schools every year. And these Tech athletes are hardly there long enough to even take 2 years of classes.
I Pay Engineers

I first want to say that Tech grads really are fantastic at using CAD to design buildings for me. Whether it is an EE or PE or Civil Engineer, I know a Tech guy is going to be able to handle that chore for me…. and that is nice. Just knowing that they will spend hour upon soul crushing hour punching numbers into their computers on friction loss and loads and other exciting stuff like that really is helpful when building. Paying them for that task really makes me happy. It seems none of the ones I pay played basketball or any ball at Tech, but that is to be expected. I was actually on the Tech campus recently to look at a jobsite and was able to see both good looking gals on campus and I was not robbed, so I feel like I am living right.
Speaking of smart, I am pretty sure that contract you smarty smarts gave to Hewitt was not very..uhhhhh…smart. At least he can recruit good players. Of course, if the Cheetah burned down with all hands on deck, they still would have less wasted talent in the charred remains than Techs hoop teams of late…
So, in summation:
Tech guys are great for tasks and work pretty cheap…
The area surrounding the Tech campus is unsafe…
We run this state….literally

Barring injury, Favors does not have to worry about an engineering degree. He is a million dollar baby! LOL More than any engineer will make in their first year of work and retire in less time. The issue is that when most athletes come to Tech, it is a special choice they make, either by being recruited well, or for academics. Right? Players going to GA, for example are for different reasons, especially in basketball.

As for Tech fans, we need to encourage Hewitt and the Athletic Department and boosters to enhance their recruiting efforts to put together a BB team that can stay in place for more than season or two. In a sense, Hewitt is in a peculiar situation. He has to try to win in one year spurts. Let’s be honest.

Looks like we will be stuck with being mediocre except for an occasional year, continued signing of players that leave early, .500 or under in the ACC, early exit from the ACC tourney, and a trip to the NCAAs every few years. Now, we are stuck with a $7million+ buyout.

The issue is what no one seems to understand is that I have been a fan for years, and it is a more difficult a decision for players who want to play BBall at Tech given the school and playing time, etc. Even Favors considered that while looking at UNC and others.

Coach Hewitt’s contract is not the issue. Any coach who coaches a program of Tech’s magnitude is paid well. And Hewitt made what, a cool mill this year, plus NCAA appearance bonuses? Nothing unusual. Stop listening to the media. Again, all of the weight is being placed on Hewitt when boosters should share some blame as well. I will give Ga credit for that in football. If Hewitt had made the Final Four or Championship game with this team, everyone would be jumping up and down! Right? Come on…some fairness here. When has Tech won a championship in basketball? Hmmm…So why jump on Hewitt’s back. Actually, with the exception of one team, Cremins may have had a better chance of winning more championships with his teams than Hewitt’s one year and out players…

Obviously, you dont care to look at the players Tech has lost to the NBA. This breaks down chemistry. You are left trying to piece together a team unless you are Duke or UNC, Kansas, or Kentucky. Everyone except the elite programs will experience such a stretch of mediocrity. Once in a while programs will get a break and retain decent players for 3 or 4 years, enough to make a run for the title. It is just how the game has evolved. Again, there is no mention of the dynamics of the game today. And I would be the first to say enough is enough. (I feel that way about the Braves; another story) But I had to stop and look at the dymamics of the game and those involved along with Hewitt. Just maybe he hasnt been getting the booster support he needs…hmmm. Let’s look at all angles and stop talking about a coach whose has to be the savior of a program that has never, never won an NCAA title in BBall.

Doug: I read your “maybe we should be happy that Paul didn’t leave” article. WOW!!
Can you guys see that nothing ever changes with his teams’ style of play? It is very painful and difficult to enjoy. His teams’ have so much lack of discipline that they never can put inferior teams away, and they very seldom, if ever, win games they are not suppose to win, talentwise. If his teams played good, fundamental basketball and lost, all of us could still enjoy watching, even with the losses. But watching his teams play, even when they win, is not entertaining, it is exascerbating!!!

Gullible? I think it says a lot just to get the blue chippers to come to Tech. And how in the world do you know how long a player is going to be in school? And do you know how that effects the next year’s recruiting class when they see a guy in their position? You seem to know better, so how would you do any better? Again, I follow these blue chip players and many times their minds hinge upon one or two things: 1) they already want to play for a certain team or coach, 2) playing time. This is same situation that Nolan faced at Arkansas. Fans and media calling for the coach to be fired and such. And Arkansas will never compete again for a title. Be careful what you ask for. And the notion of not supporting the Jackets is a rather harsh action against not only the players who have nothing to do with this, but the great spirit of GaTech.

Your point? Obviously, you think that basketball games are coached by waving a magic wand. I do know that Coach would have had this year Crittendon (forgot him, huh?) and Young, Lawal and Favors had they stayed. Imagine that! But give him some credit. He is left between a rock and a hard place. He has high school players and coaches respect and either he recruits these blue chips or settle for mediocre players. The thing about it is he can only recruit and coach, he definitely cant play also. What do you really expect? Give some feedback on that. What would you do different and who would you recruit? Besides that, who would come to play for you? Again, before the Razorbacks threw in the towel on the coach the took them to 2 championship games, he had a committment from a guy named…hmmm…Emeka Okafor! Oh yeah, he then led UConn to a title against who? GT

Here is what I would do differently …. If my team continued to make the same mistakes and played the same sloppy mess he declares basketball, I might address those issues. Anyone in the country can figure out how to run a successful inbounds play…. well almost everyone. Anyone that has been around basketball for a few months at least can figure out how to beat a press …. well almost everyone.
As far as recruiting if you want to go after the one and dones then lets try to use them while they are here. I think Bosh averaged something like 8 shots a game and Favors 7 ….. that is horrible. Of course both are inside players which brings up another issue. I have never seen a coach neglect his inside men more in my life. Anyway I probably could write a book, but you see things your way and I see them mine ( and my way leans a lot closer to the majority now than yours)
Just one more point. When it hits rock bottom that is when EVERYONE starts to see your ineptitude …. I would imagine you could not disagree with that …. which is why it was funny to listen to non biased commentators this year completely run Hewitt through the ringer all year … During the Maryland tournament game I think the commentators must have gone off for at least 5 straight minutes on how disorganized and horribly uncoached we looked. Pat Forde all but mocked Hewitt on one of his ESPN articles …. these people get paid for their opinions so if you think I am way off based then I guess you think all these people are nuts

Wow… that’s sounds like a perfect coach. Only thing is, there is basketball to be played and there are other teams that figure to beat your inbounds play as well as everything else you try to do. That is why you havent seen any unbeatens and why you’ve seen many upsets. If you dont get blue chippers then someone else will get them and beat the heck out of you. Why in the heck do you think that players come to Tech? Guess what? Coach Hewitt. I dont care about the majority because it is all negative nonsense from supposedly GT fans…Again, I note the Arkansas situation when Nolan said that players come there because of him…could not have been more true. Because Arkansas has not been in contention for anything since. Great example of an understanding of the dynamics of the game and where the game has been going for years. You may disagree but if you dont understand that, you are just as lost as Bo Peep!

SEC is kicking the butts of ACC in basketball, again.
Big East had 8 bids to the Men’s Tournament. Butler beat # 1 seed Syracuse last night. Big East have 1 left, tomorrow night West Virginia vs. SEC # 1 Kentucky. Big East also does not have a Winning Record in Men’s NCAA Tournament, just like the ACC. Neither the Big East nor the ACC are better than The SEC in Basketball. Really disappointing article by Doug about Tech fans should be glad Hewitt stayed. What’s frustrating is that he proposed the idea that Tech fans expect to be UNC and Duke. Granted, there are some that expect that, but I don’t think that’s the issue. Also, he quoted someone as saying we may just be getting the “10 year itch”, or something.
As a writer who is familiar with the team and situation, he knows that’s bogus. Fans are frustrated with the way the team plays, the losing record in the conference, and the inability to win on the road among other things. The fact CPH has been here for 10 years and has not changed or addressed areas of struggle just frustrates fans. Either Doug isn’t paying attention or is just ignoring what is really bothering fans not to address the real issues that are bothering fans.

Within two years, Hewitt will regret not having gone to St. Johns, and Dr. Dan will be putting on a “game face” on getting rid of this guy. This regime is going the way of John Brady at LSU after he went to the Final Four in 2006. The only difference will be LSU got rid of their coach in mid-season and Dr. Dan will wait until the end of the 2012 season. With no front line next year, we will descend to North Carolina’s regular season standing of this past year. I am very dismayed. How much will it take to get Brad Stevens at Butler?

It seems as though there are some couch coaches that do not have a clue about basketball. Again, I can understand the frustration, but a lot of Tech’s problems are a result of more parity in college basketball. Negative comments and non-support for the Jackets will not help anything. Never mind the GA fans. I can’t help but think of what happened to Nolan Richardson in Arkansas. This is the mirror image, except for the fact that this time, the AD and President haven’t fallen for the negativity…yet.

i’m still laughing at roberson’s article about a “ten year itch”. WTH are you talking about?
the reason fans are unhappy with coach hewitt retaining his job is his record.
who would be happy with a conference record of 67-93?
