Thomas hopes broken foot won’t affect draft status

Former Georgia Tech wide receiver Demaryius Thomas said his broken foot may affect his draft status, but he hopes it doesn’t.

Thomas broke his foot on Tuesday during a 3-cone drill while training Scottsdale, Ariz. He said he was finishing the exercise when he planted his foot and heard something pop. The break was diagnosed on Wednesday. He is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

“A lot of people may not want to draft me because they won’t know what my speed is like,” Thomas said.

Luckily for him, Thomas was taped running the 40-yard dash, the length NFL teams use to measure speed, in a blistering 4.38 seconds during a camp training session. That video was sent to all 32 of the NFL’s teams, his agent Todd France told SI.com on Wednesday.

Thomas, a native of Montrose, had 46 receptions for 1,154 yards and eight touchdowns last season. During his three-year career at Tech, Thomas caught 120 passes for 2,339 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Thomas praised the trainers at API in Scottsdale, where he’s been the past few weeks preparing for next week’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Before breaking his foot, Thomas said he had been working on improving his speed, strength and route-running ahead of the combine. He said he will still attend the event, but won’t participate in the drills.

He said he didn’t think he would be able to participate in Tech’s pro day, which will be held in mid-March. He said he would likely schedule a pro day between then and the draft on April 22.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper on Wednesday moved Thomas into the first-round of his mock draft on the strength of his workouts. He was previously unrated.

Just make sure you are 100% before you do any drills in front of pro scouts. Best wishes towards making a full and speedy recovery.

He won’t slip past #44 overall. Miami is in need of a big WR, and his speed only makes him more valuable. I think his tape shows what he’s got. Most CBs don’t catch up to him. If they do, he says “no, I won’t let you tackle me because I just stiff arm you to the ground. But, I will let you be in my highlight reel.”

Even from a die hard DAWG, the boy’s a stud. Glad he’s not Techie, but best of luck to him in draft.

Panthers will need to replace an aging “moose”. Birds would hate that….Smith on one side, BeyBey on the other….quiet a combo!

Pardon me Doug, but who did you offend of AJC’s management, which resulted in you getting assigned to write about Georgia Tech football?

Well if it does affect where he is drafted and he falls to some lucky team farther down the pecking order, they will have themselves a premier prospect at receiver. This kid has superstar potential!

Thomas is an outstanding player with frightening size and speed. Good luck in recovering.

While it will hurt him in initial dollars, I think that he will get picked up by a pretty good team and will have plenty of time to prove himself and earn a big contract

Bey Bey – Will be big time NFL player, Him and Dez White will be very nice 1st round picks. I also like Decker from Minn, is he in the draft this year, They are the 3 best.

Bey Bey is a big receiver but fast and has great hands, I was shocked when he dropped the pass against UGA, more shocked that he was that wide open.

From unranked to 1st round based on workouts? Sounds like Rivals is selling subscriptions for the NFL draft and recuiting.

Don’t forget that Thomas is a devastating blocker. That should factor in his pro assessments.

BeBe will be an impact player on Sundays. Just wait and see. And in another year he could have the Robot throwing him the ball again. Watch as those two take their game to the next level.

Don’t let the ankle injury fool you. The Robot Nesbot will be back. And he’ll make Steve Hill a star! Book it,

Good Luck D. Thomas………………….everything happens for a reason……..maybe you will end up on the team that is best for you because of this unfortunate incident!

D. Thomas will be a very productive and solid NFL player.

what’s up with these bees and all their gay nicknames like Bay-Bay and Gladiator and Gaybo?

“Timmy, you ever seen any movies about Gladiators?”

now that little Lamar Latrell Nesbitt is getting cut on, who do you f@gs play at qb? Gaybo or Sims?

Did an Arfie just begrudge the family nicknames given to the players on his big brother’s team? Wow. Nice low blow. I don’t think any of the Overall Nation needs to be talking about the names of other team’s players. I haven’t seen that many Q’s on jerseys since Memphis in May.

He’ll be a great prospect regardless, but he will slip a littel because of this. Someone is going to get a bargain. Bears, Raiders?

SansWorld, Alot of Dawg fans are nice on the GT blogs. Problem is you (collectively) concentrate on the ones trying to get a rise out of you to notice. :)

Before the injury I’d say a team like the Bengals would be smart to take him in the 1st round so he could provide the big play threat that they lost when Chris Henry died. I’m a believer in Thomas, although not a GT fan. Hopefully the foot heals up 100% and doesn’t end up having issues in the future.

I would love to see a receive with two years of Paul Johnson picked in the first round of the draft. That wouldn’t go unnoticed.

The guy’s name is Dez Bryant, but then again, this is a Tech blog. Dez White was a receiver from Tech that was a big bust in the League. Dez Bryant is the guy that got suspended for hanging with Neon Deon. And you guys say that your real fans. HA.
