Special guest blog from Nick Claytor

A few days after three of my best friends and teammates announced that they are heading to the NFL reality has set in.

If you haven’t read or heard about this recruiting class here’s the scoop: We’re close.

So as a bevy of my teammates and I watched Derrick Morgan, Jonathan Dwyer, and Morgan Burnett declare for the draft emotions swirled in the room. These are our brothers; no one outside of the GT family can understand how proud we are of their accomplishments and how excited we are to watch them take their talents to the NFL.

Families and newscasters were present. During the press conference inside jokes and sly smiles were shared between teammates.

“We are all family,” Derrick Morgan said. “I’m not leaving them behind I’m just paving the way forward.”

This sentiment was true as this year’s team barreled its way to an ACC Championship and a BCS berth.

There has always been an emphasis on the ‘07 class and how important it is for us to be successful. We are only part of a way there.

As the first part of the class leaves the rest of us are beginning to become leaders. We have yet to win a bowl game. That has to change.

To answer any questions if there’s a lack of players left, we have strong talent on both sides of the ball and the classes under us are filled with solid players. We have a bonafide leader in Josh Nesbitt and you better believe he has what it takes for us to be successful.

So as our friends and brothers move onto their dreams we will remember them and stay in contact.

Gone are the days of loud locker room arguments over who had the best high school football team. Gone are the spontaneous freestyle rap sessions. But we know that these guys can’t stay away for too long. All the great ones always come back!

– Nick Claytor

Hey Nick, we all are looking forward to you becoming one of the leaders on the O-line. Can you clarify the balance between the need for size and strength vs. the need for quickness and downfield blocking in this offense? I understand that if one player misses his assignment it can blow the whole play, but what happens if players on the D-line are so big, strong, and fast that they can manhandle smaller O-linemen? It seems like we struggle when they take away the dive play and their DE’s penetrate to get between the QB and the pitch man.

For this new senior class, it is just as important for you guys to take the leadership role to mentor the underclassmen. Pass along your insight, work ethic, and so on.

We win as a team, and we lose as a team. Hopefully not too much of the later!

Nick – I remember when all your class signed, you all were so fired up as a group. That why I thought all would stay, but NFL is huge oppertunity and I gan’t blame anyone for making that option while they have a chance.
Oh, great job this year – tell the whole team they made us Tech fans proud. 13th in the country is huge. I say you pancake that UGA player, sweet block.

Hey superDawg, You are a fine one to talk about excuses. To listen to/read you puppy fans, your fine team has not lost a game in 2 years. Each loss has been punctuated by dozens of comments about how the refs are against your undercoached pitiful pups. In fact, they say it is backlash from the Florida debacle a couple years ago. According to you puppy dog fans, the refs are highly biased AGAINST you guys. TALKING ABOUT MAKING EXCUSES…. It won’t hurt to admit the fact that you are just not as good as the competition.

What do you mean you lost my resume %$#

January 14th, 2010
12:23 pm

CPJ is constantly calling UT about his now lost ( for the 5oth time ) resume and screaming “slap me um, I mean slap UGA in the face, i am too a great triple option coach, look what I done in the SEC, um, I mean ACC. I coach in Bobby Dodd Stadium and he is a UT grad, i am too qualified for Blame’s old job” as the dial tone plays zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Sad, he will soon join Meyer, UT’s Mike Hamilton in rehab.

From Nick:

On the O-line size vs. speed question: Its going to be give and take when it comes to the size of an o-lineman. Smaller faster lineman can get out on the edge and cut down those second-level guys and bigger linemen usually do better at the point of attack. But the way they coach us they try fix that by preaching being lower and going harder than the opposition.

On his basketball coaching skills: I’m OK at basketball, i feel like I’m too short for these kids nowadays! But my dad won a national championship at Kentucky so he can coach a lot better than I could. :)

On Anthony Allen: Knowing coach Johnson he will use Ant effectively.

12:31 pm

Nick, thanks for the comments. I would like to see something like this from all of the team’s players. We are super-proud of what the Jackets have accomplished under coach Johnson and we know a “re-load” system is being built. While we will certainly miss all of next years NFL talent from Tech we know others are coming along. Calvin Johnson and Teshard Choice have proven that Tech trains for the NFL.. Best wishes to you on the gridiron and in the classroom.

Nick – you and your teammates are a class act. Don’t underestimate how proud the entire GT community is not only of your on field success but for how you carry yourselves and represent the Institute off the field. I was in Miami and had a chance to mingle with Jonathan, Morgan, Derrick Josh and more (missed you, where were you?) and I was very proud.

Hey Nick. Nice write-up. Perhaps after you finish your football career (ever how many years from now that might be), you can become a sports writer.

We thoroughly enjoyed watching you guys this year. If anyone had asked me before the season whether I would be satisfied to finish 11-3, with a conference title and a berth in the Orange Bowl, the answer would have been a resounding “YES”. I love seeing that the team is making progress each year, and I’m looking forward to next year’s edition.

On the other hand, I was really disappointed in your high school team in 2009 … after all, they beat my Falcons TWICE! LOL!

Best of luck in the future, both academically and athletically. You’ve made the Gainesville and Hall County community proud.

you know, as i read these comments bellow articles on the GT side of the AJC i see many UGAG fans, ok, you guys beat us, get a F**king life and do something with it, we dont make excuses but just get tired of you guys being idiots and having nothing further than a 2nd grade “edumacation” Saint Simons, retard, iv been observing your post and it seems you have nothing better to do than rant us for beating us in a game of football, go back to the UGAG side of this website and type trash with all your banjo playing, wife beater wearing friends……seriously………get a life……this article here has no relevance to you and doesn’t pertain to UGA in anyway…..you have a lot more things to worry about, like who will be your DC next year, considering anyone wants to coach for Mark spray tan Richt or however you spell his name. WE UNDERSTAND THAT WE GOT BEAT, YOU DONT HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO US LIKE WE ARE YOUR PALS IN ATHENS, WE GET THINGS THE FIRST TIME. go get a girlfriend, go get a job, wow just go get friends period to talk with because you are obviously the most frequent commenter on GT articles, more so than yellow jacket fans ourselves, and talk with them on it, your voice or opinion doesn’t matter to us so your completely pointless in life…………go play in traffic
