Couple of bits of information

It appears that special teams coordinator and A-backs coach Jeff Monken will help coach Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

Monken recently accepted the head coaching position at Georgia Southern. He and the university held a press conference yesterday. It appears he may be splitting some time between Statesboro. The story on Southern’s website said that he has begun his duties for the Eagles.

Item No. 2:

There’s going to be another Georgia Tech golfer on the PGA Tour: Cameron Tringale. He tied for 19th place at the tour Qualifying School with a 10-under par 422. He went 8-under in the event’s last two rounds.

He will join alumni Stewart Cink, Matt Kuchar, Troy Matteson, Bryce Molder and Nicholas Thompson (123rd) on the Tour in 2010.

If Tech fans think the ACC is content having the YellowJackets as their representative then think again. This fluke will never be repeated again. NC is on the up and up. Miami and FSU will be getting back to their old form next season. Va. Tech will work out their kinks and BC will surely be a force again in the near future. Enjoy your bowl game next month Tech fans. I am not a big supporter of Wommack. I understand that our d-line is undersized, but aside from Morgan, we rarely get pressure on the qb or are in position to make tackles in the backfield. Not to mention our defense lacks the ability to tackle a player in open field. We consistently take bad angles to the ball carrier and end up giving up big plays because of it. These are areas of the game that should improve as the season progresses. Wommack has not been coaching up our players enough.

Georgia fans just need to appreciate the fact that Tech played one of its worst games of the year and still had a chance to win. You just got lucky. Other than bragging rights, this year’s game had no effect on either team’s bowl picture. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to be 13-0 right now, but that would almost be more frustrating because Tech would be ranked #3 and going to the Orange Bowl to face Iowa instead of playing for the NC. UGA is a consistent top 10 recruiting class, not 5. LSU is too and look how they did last year. USC is a consistent top 5 class and they are having a pretty crappy season as well. So yes, it does happen.

It is obvious that there is ONE pathetic dawg fan using numerous aliases saying the same boring things repeatedly. It is tempting to respond since he is so easy to put down being the Idiot & Fool that he is. Nonetheless, this diverts attention from intelligent discussion of football so we might be well-advised to simply ignore this Moron who sounds like he never graduated high school. He needs to get a life & find something productive to do with his time beyond trash-talking on Tech blogs..

I have two major concerns as do most Tech fans.

1. Iowa will have time to prepare their good defense against the spread option as LSU did.

2. Our defense has not been prepared for recent games allowing teams to take their first possession and shove it down our throats. Our defenders often don’t look loke they know what they are doing. This is poor coaching. I hope Coach Johnson will so something about this for the Orange Bowl and certainly before next season.

On the other hand, I have every confidence that Johnson will do what is necessary to win the game. He has done better in his first two years than any coach I know of, and he learns from his mistakes. He knows that Tech was overconfident after beating Pre-Season #1 UGA and had a let-down for the LSU game. I think he will have them ready this time. This is also why he played down the importance of the UGA game this year because the ACC Championship game was more important which is true. Nonetheless, this was also a mistake in retrospect in my opinion. The Dawgs came in more fired up & better prepared. They played their best game of the year & played out of character. Who knew they wouldn’t turn the ball over and wouldn’t have many penalties since they were one of the most penalized teams in the nation? They “got a little help from their friends” as usual: the SEC refs. Johnson couldn’t do anything to prevent the dirty scheme to deliberately injure our QB, Nesbitt, which is a major reason UGA won the game. Richt brought this concept over from FSU & Mickey Andrews when they repeatedly knocked Joe Hamilton out of games and even announced to an ESPN side-line walker before a game that was their game plan. FSU also went after Florida’s Danny Wuerffle. They tried to injure Nesbitt, Dwyer, and Roddy Jones this year when they saw they were going to lose. This is the legacy Richt brings to Georgia from FSU: play dirty if you have to because winning is more important than Honor. Johnson will have them ready next year. The team should want payback for the loss, the injury to Nesbitt, & the lack of class in dancing on Tech’s logo before the game. Nonetheless, the loss may have been a blessing in disguise since Johnson says “Good teams don’t lose two in a row.” He had them ready and they are now Orange Bowl bound ACC Champs and ranked #9 in the BCS. They have a great TV spot Jan. 5, 8 PM EST with no competing games.

After contemplating the situation, I’ve come to the conclusion that our problem is not just the fact that UGA recruits better athletes, it’s that we need a new S&C program. After rewatching the game, it was obvious that our lines (D&O) were overpowered. UGA’s linemen were just knocking our guys out of the way like they were’nt even there. Their center (Jones) and that guard (Glen), or whatever his name is, was just bulldozing our DTs. Those guys looked like they were 350 lbs each and move pretty good for big men. There’s been alot of comments from Dawgie fans on here that UGA is upgrading their facilities and that is only going to exacerbate the problem. It doesn’t matter what kind of O or D scheme you run when your opponent is bigger and stronger and faster and more conditioned. You are going to get overpowered most of the time. We either need to look at our S&C program, get new S&C coaches or…SOMETHING! If not, we are going to have more than just this year to get ripped day in and day out by the mutts.

Its kind of retarded that when ACC teams beat SEC teams that no one says anything about how the ACC is better, but when an SEC team beats an ACC, the ACC is a terrible conference. We can talk about who beat who all we want, but that just turns into circular logic. I do agree that the SEC is a better conference, but just because uga and usc beat GT and CU, respectively, doesn’t mean that they are winner and runner up in the SEC. If you use that logic than Ole Miss should have won the national championship last year.
And to that moron that said dark times are coming for GT, I believe that there are great times coming for GT. We are 11-2 and going to a BCS game, I think that this program is here to stay, as much as it might scare you.

The only reason the UGA fans are on here is jealously, plain and simple. If they had any class or maturity, they either would not be here or would post in a more meaningful, substantive manner. The same goes for those immature GT fans that want to troll over on UGA’s blogs.

I really got a good laugh out of a “Tarheel” posting on here. That person is lost, maybe even bitter about losing to UK in bball.

I really with there was a way to block those users who you really did not care to read anything more from. It would certainly clean up the blog.

The matchup with Iowa should be an entertaining game to watch and looks to be one of the harder/closer ones to predict. For those of you that like to say GT is going to get killed, I think the “experts” have us a slight favorite, by about as much as we were favored against Clemson.

As far as the defense goes, GT is pretty thin on the line (goes for the OL too). There are quite a few guys just waiting for next year. I would like to see a list of all the injured players, including who might find their way back into the Orange Bowl.

As far as which conference is better, who cares. The only play a team can control is their own, no matter what conference they are in. But, if you UGA fans just have to make comparisons, what was they margin of victory in the Alabama/UF game as compared to the Alabama/VT game? Who beat VT this year? So by all your logic, GT should be second in the SEC. Do you see just how stupid these comparisons are? Any team can beat any other team on any given Saturday. Consistency is what makes champions. Oh, and a bit of luck.

Hey tarheel, we’re gonna smoke your azz on the hardcourt as well this year. And if we play each other in the ACC Tournament, Ill be that Tech fan talkin smack and irritating you, just like I did a group of recent UNC grads in 2004. You got to the same bowl this year becuase the other teams in the ACC suck, and that includes UNC. WE beat all the good teams in the ACC and the 2nd best twice.

Yeah Dog fans you beat us, but take that bowl payout of yours and add a zero at the end and that will equal ours. Just wait, Richt will be 0-2 against CPJ coaching Tech at Sanford stadium after next year’s game. If Dwyer is gone or not……. We would be right behind Fla in the SEC east so this mid-tier SEC crap is just that. There was an Auburn fan at the Friday’s where I watched the ACC Championship game talking that smack. I reminded him that Auburn was 0-2 against us in the 2000’s and other SEC teams will not play us. We’ll see next decade as we have Bama, Ole Miss (Tenn won’t agree to a game) At least UGA plays us each year which will help us moving forward.

The fact people fail to mention is that CPJ shut down practice last year during this week for 9 days so the football teaam could concentrate on finals. I’m sure LSU was on the field during that time. I’m glad we have a coach who is balanced and trust me, finals at Ga Tech are much harder than 80-90% of other schools. Well, I’ll bet he decided to 86 that idea and have his team ready to compete for OUR BCS BOWL!! TheBCS bowls will always put the 7 or 8 programs that are top draws in the big games. If we would ahve taken care of business this year and beat UGA we still would have had Cincy or TCU or Boise or Iowa because of the alignment. But that’s OK…Can’t wait until we have a playoff and hope CPJ is still here. I’d love to see Ohio State, USC, some SEC team other than UGA in the playoffs. It will be fun…….

I love Ga Tech! Get to be excited about Football and Baskeball and can back it up this year in both (unlike tarheel poster here) We had the strongest ACC schedule played this year hands down and went 7-1 and Tech is going to compete year in and year out in the ACC…..just like the rest of the conference is sick of Roy Williams and Coach K, you will be sick of Paul Johnson, steamrolling you year after year.

Most of you UGA fans are simply pathetic. Spending all of your time on our blog and trying to make yourselves feet better about your poor season. The win against Tech was an upset – they happen every year all across the country. Yes, as a Tech fan I hate losing to Georgia anytime, but would take 11-2 and a conference championship every year over 7-5 and a win over Georgia. Enjoy your win against Tech – all fine and good and well deserved, but to take it to some of these levels that you do just shows your lack of class and graciousness – and probably your age as well. Both teams will be improved next year and should lead to two good seasons. Enjoy your bowl game – seriously, and we will enjoy ours.

How is it an upset when you can count on one hand the number of times Tech has beaten UGA over the past 20 years? And that includes the 3 years you cheated to end the ’90’s. Just curious….

Pathetic UGA Fans

December 8th, 2009

Past history does not define an upset. Just because a team won the year before or has won a multitude of times in the past does not make them the favorite every year. How can you not see this logic??? Unbelievable – but then again it just proves the point further – you are obviously one of the fans I was speaking of earlier. If Georgia goes into the game next year against Florida ranked #1 in the country and Florida is just above .500 then Georgia will be the favorite and if they lose it will be considered an upset regardless of the fact that Florida has won the vast majority of past meetings. Hopefully this basic explanation has cured your curiosity – but I highly doubt it.

He knows he likes to get passed around all the rednecks in the mobile home park right up to the illegal mexican’ts at back of the park, makes him feel wanted and appreciated to be a used scum bag!!! And my how bitter the Tarheel in Atl is guess it would suck to be a adult male and still have to wear baby blue but let’s shed some light on his ignorance and dispel some of his rumors shall we!! First off he wants to mouth off about ACC fans being content with GT being the champions, well of course fans of the others conf schools are not content with it you idiot, if they were then they would be Tech fans, I know I wouldn’t be happy and content if Virginia Tech, FSU, Clemson or any other school won the championship but if you are content that teams other than UNC win then you my friend are a dumba##. Secondly you want to bring up ACC championships and say Tech is near the bottom-granted we haven’t been in the ACC as long as say UNC has yet UNC only has 5 championships (63,71,72,77,80) and the 63 was shared with NC State, while we have 3 already (90,98,09) and the 98 was shared with FSU. So in summary it looks like UNC is ahead 5-3 yet UNC hasn’t won anything since 1980 while we have won 2 of our 3 in the last 10-11 years so who’s program seems to be getting better? Certainly not UNC, as a matter of fact when it comes to ACC titles they have even been punked by NC State 7-5 so tarheel in atl go suck on dean smith some more and spit out another roy williams cause all you will ever have in baby blue is basketball..and by the way when it comes to National Championships each and every person on this board knows even if they are to stupid to admit it that if thier team is recognized by any of the legitimate and actual agencies in place to name a champion names thier team then they count it as legit. College Football used to be different in the old days and yes there were several legitimate sources that voted on and declared national champions and just as today’s headline on this very paper’s website declares it may not have always been the correct voting procedure however it is what they had to work with. Oh and by the way for you UGAY fans who fail to actually read anything to do with sports it was a story about how bowden voted for richt and the puppies to be 25th in the poll because he loves richt and remembers all those times cmr was on his knees under his desk. People vote for who they like not necessarily who the best team is and that is human nature so what who cares big deal GT has 3 national championships and no matter what any UGAY fan thinks or how hard they laugh the NCAA officially recognizes these championships. I don’t care if the AP ever voted us number 1 or not could be just because they don’t like tech because maybe Heisman kicked some AP reporters a@@ one day and they blackballed us who cares we still have our 3-one more recently than UGAY. AND BY THE WAY BABYBLUE TARBABY I FAILED TO SEE UNC ANYWHERE ON THE LIST OF NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

Well, that was Tech’s objectives for this season.

Now, for the UGA goals

-Finish the year with more wins than loses
-Get a bowl berth in any bowl that will take you. Yep, Shreveport is lovely this time of a year.

As far as fan support goes, Tech is a huge underdog. We already knew that, but for what it’s worth, this quote supplied from Des Moines – why the Orange Bowl wanted the Hawkeyes:
“A reason Iowa was favored is the fact officials estimate more than 47,000 Hawkeye fans flocked to Miami for the 2003 Orange Bowl. “We anticipate that same number, maybe more,” Gautier said. “Georgia Tech, we think, is going to get their allotment … maybe even 25,000. We think the Hawkeye Nation will take up the difference.” Land Shark Stadium holds 74,000.”

Great season Jackets and Staff! Good luck Monken at GSU! Now the offense looks great and saw some potential in the short passing game. Just think how good this offense can become if we hit 60% plus of our passes consistently. It’s 1999 all over again with Hamilton and Co. Now the defense is another story. It shows signs of promise but then bends and breaks. It appears to be the cut back running ability of the opposing teams. Maybe we need to shore up our LB run depth. We have some good ones but never enough. Maybe Luke Cox can switch over there since he is now 3rd team A-back and we’re loaded over there? Maybe we can recruit or get a couple of transfers who can provide run stopping depth. Just think how good this whole team would be if we make some imprivements on Defense.

Dang I wish I was unemployed like all the UGAY idiots that post 20 times in a matter of moments, but unfortunately I don’t get to sit at the center trailer in the mobile home park that happens to have internet access, although I’m sure that the owner of the computer is getting quite angry that he is missing out on watching his bestiality porn that he spends his entire welfare check on each month hoping to one day see his own submission getting played on the net. Just think that poor ole UGA had to up and die just to avoid all the but lovin the UGAY fans were subjecting him to..Come to think of it he was the smartest of the bunch. I love how the UGAY fans say we won our championships back when blacks and women couldn’t vote, sorry we don’t have an old slave song as our fight song..I’d been workin on the railroad all da live long day..Sound familar of course it does..Not worth the effort is one of the few intelligent dog fans I have ever met..he hates GT yet still acknowledges our season..Like Tech fans hate UGAY and the fact we lost yet we still had a great season and a lot to be proud of..TO JACKET3322=LOSER Tell you what you little p#ssy I don’t expect any UGAY fan to read my posts because it was more than 3 words and the final score but I promise you this for your sake you best be glad I’m not one to attack underage children because I would put a hurting on you so fast you would wish you were never born..no wait your mother didn’t give birth to you as you are just some pathetic piece of sh!t that fell out of your momma’s a$$ after her 75 man gangbang at the trailerpark and she thought you were the cutest piece of sh!t she had ever seen so she kept you..I know your momma liked to get gangbanged by all the illegal mexican’s in the trailer park cause I used to pimp her out every weekend…made myself a cool $10.00..meet me for real and I’ll pimp your sorry a$$ out to although with your buck teeth, the stench you put out and that 475lb a$$ of your I doubt i could make $2.50 off of you..YOU MY FRIEND ARE LIKE EVERY UGAY FAN THAT I ENCOUNTERED AT BOBBY DODD GAME NIGHT RUN YOUR MOUTH BUT RUN YOUR LEGS FASTER THAN “WASH ON EALY” OR “COWLIP QUEEN” WHEN CHALLENGED BY SOMEONE. Not Worth the Effort – BIG AMEN to your post- It’s not like any of us were actually on the field. I hate the Dawgs (and especially their fans) with every fiber of my being, but I do know that it is ONLY because of Tech’s offense that we are even in the top 25. Our defense is pathetic and special teams aren’t that great either. But I am proud of the teams efforts. I also don’t see any reason to troll an opponents blog (long after they’ve played) except for having a pathetic existence. Thank you for a classy post!

Iowa’s starting QB … 15 TDs 14 INTs. Not very impressive. And I recall lots of people questioning how high they climbed in the BCS by repeatedly beating teams in the BAMA-UT, Neb-Tex fashion. And one win the Hawkeyes had this year was by blocking TWO FGs in the final seconds to beat ………NORTHERN IOWA 17-16, a team that hadn’t beaten Iowa in 111 years!!

Their D looks good, but their O … not so good. I think GT can move the ball; should be tough for Iowa to simulate GT’s O with the same speed & precision it will be coming at them come 1/5/10.

To the GA fans that are joking about GT having 2 weeks to prepare & still losing to GA …. isn’t that how the scenario played out last year except GA had the extra week, and the weaker, underdog GT came on the road and won??? There is a reason why the games are played on the FIELD and not on paper.

Federal legislation that could lead to a college football playoff tournament will move a step closer to reality on Wednesday in a hearing before a subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection will consider a bill that would allow the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to prohibit any bowl game from calling itself a “national championship” unless the game is “the final game of a single elimination post-season playoff system.” The subcommittee is expected to vote on the proposal on Wednesday after a line-by-line consideration of the bill.

SEC Logic

December 9th, 2009
12:38 pm

SEC homer logic tells us that since GT and Clemson lose to mediocre SEC teams, UGA and South Carolina would win the ACC right?

But Tennessee lost to UCLA, one of the worst teams in the PAC-10, and UGA got creamed by Tennessee. What does that say about UGA? They couldn’t hack it in the PAC-10?

Alabama, last year’s SEC runner-up, lost to Utah in their bowl game. Does that mean the best teams in the SEC couldn’t hack it in the Mountain West?

LSU, who also beat UGA, needed a 2nd half comeback to beat Louisiana Tech by only 8 points. Does that mean all ranked SEC teams would struggle with sub .500 WAC teams?

bawahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

December 9th, 2009

Even weak teams like UGag put 30 points on us. If our defense where even at 50% of the level our offense is, we would be undefeated. However 3 of the four D-Line starters from last year are now playing in the NFL (Walker-Falcons, Richards-Patriots, Johnson-Bengals), I would rather be playing in the Orange bowl at 11-2 than playing in the self-propelled Lawnmower bowl at 7-5.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the American academic (1949-2008). For the Boer war general (1872-1946), see Jan Kemp (South African).
Jan Kemp (1949 – December 4, 2008) was an American academic and English tutor who exposed the bias in passing college football players and filed a lawsuit against the University of Georgia.
Born in Griffin, Georgia Kemp earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a doctorate in English education. She began teaching at the University of Georgia in 1978. In 1981 Kemp was one of the teachers who complained claiming that Georgia officials had intervened allowing nine college football players to pass the remedial English course, allowing them to play against Pittsburgh in the Sugar Bowl.
Kemp was demoted in 1982 and dismissed one year later. She then filed a lawsuit claiming she had been fired due to her complaints about the passing of players. During the time after she was dismissed Kemp tried to commit suicide twice. The University defended its actions saying that Kemp was dismissed for “disruptive conduct and for failure to conduct adequate scholarly research”.[1]
The jury found the University guilty for the illegal dismissal of Dr. Kemp and she was awarded $2.5 Million, which was later reduced to $1.08 Million. Kemp was reinstated and University President Dr. Fred C. Davison resigned. After the trial Kemp spoke to The New York Times saying “All over the country, athletes are used to produce revenue. I’ve seen what happens when the lights dim and the crowd fades. They’re left with nothing. I want that stopped”. Kemp retired from teaching in 1990 and was named a hero of the 1980’s by People magazine.
Kemp died on December 4, 2008 at the age of 59. Her son stated the cause of death was due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her son and daughter.[2]

Jan Kemp, a former English instructor whose lawsuit against the University of Georgia in the 1980s drew national attention to preferential treatment of college athletes unable to meet academic standards, died on Dec. 4 in Athens, Ga. She was 59.

The New York Times
Dr. Jan Kemp won a lawsuit against the University of Georgia.
The cause was complications of Alzheimer’s disease, her son, Will, told The Associated Press.

While coordinator of Georgia’s remedial English program, Dr. Kemp was among several faculty members who had complained that officials at Georgia intervened in the fall of 1981 to enable nine football players to pass a remedial English course in which they had received failing grades. The athletes remained eligible to play for Georgia against Pittsburgh in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day 1982.

Dr. Kemp was demoted in 1982 and dismissed the next year. She filed suit, maintaining that she had been ousted because of her complaints, a violation of her constitutional right to free speech.

In Atlanta Federal Court in January 1986, university officials defended their actions concerning the football players, saying the athletes had been admitted to the regular curriculum because they were making progress in their studies. Dr. Kemp, they said, was dismissed for disruptive conduct and for failure to conduct adequate scholarly research.

Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”

The jury found that Dr. Kemp had been dismissed illegally and awarded her more than $2.5 million (later reduced to $1.08 million) for lost wages, mental anguish and punitive damages. She was later reinstated.

The university’s president, Dr. Fred C. Davison, announced his resignation in March 1986. The board of regents of the University System of Georgia issued a report in April implicating Dr. Davison and the Georgia athletic department, headed by Vince Dooley, who was also the football coach, in a pattern of academic abuse in the admission and advancement of student-athletes over the previous four years. Both Dr. Davison and Mr. Dooley denied improper conduct, but Georgia tightened academic standards for its athletes.

Dr. Kemp, a native of Griffin, Ga., received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a doctorate in English education from Georgia, where she began teaching in 1978. She retired from her second stint as a faculty member in 1990.

In addition to her son, she is survived by her daughter, Margie Kemp.

Although Dr. Kemp was ultimately vindicated, she said she suffered emotional turmoil from the dispute and twice attempted suicide in 1982.

Notwithstanding her travails, she made her point.

“All over the country, athletes are used to produce revenue,” she told The New York Times a month after the trial. “I’ve seen what happens when the lights dim and the crowd fades. They’re left with nothing. I want that stopped.”

University student and defensive end Montez Robinson was arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol early Monday morning as police investigated a report of criminal damage to a vehicle.

According to the University Police report:

A Parking Services attendant told police she heard the sound of breaking glass at the East Campus parking deck, then found a vehicle with both rear tail lights broken.

Police found the owner of the vehicle, University student Armita Didehvar, sitting outside Vandiver Hall talking with Robinson.

Robinson, 19, smelled of alcohol, so police placed him under arrest.

As he was arrested, “Robinson became very agitated” and “started to yell and scream.”

On Oct. 20, University Police reported Didehvar as the victim of a misdemeanor battery and simple assault.

The name of the suspect was redacted from the police report, however several witnesses to the incident claimed the suspect was a football player, and one identified the alleged assailant as Robinson.

“We saw Montez,” University student and Vandiver Hall resident Mileva Savich told The Red & Black Tuesday.

“Then we saw a girl and we heard her scream. We saw him pick her up and basically throw her against a trash can.”

Savich said she and her roommates ran outside to try to break up the incident, but the alleged assailant and Didehvar were separated when they arrived.

“He was going off and cussing,” she said. “He got her really good.”

University Police Chief Jimmy Williamson was unable to identify the suspect because no formal charges were made.

He said police do not identify suspects awaiting formal charges to avoid the possibility of spreading false accusations.

“She did not want to press charges,” he said. “Neither were very cooperative.”

Williamson said in certain similar cases, police are able to make arrests under family violence laws. This incident did not meet the requirements, so no arrest was made.

Associate Athletic Director Claude Felton was unable to be reached for comment Wednesday.

Robinson and Didehvar both refused to comment.

A University of Georgia football player was booked into the Clarke County Jail this morning on a felony charge stemming from a fight last weekend that seriously injured another UGA student.

Michael Lemon, 20, a redshirt sophomore defensive end, surrendered less than a day after Athens-Clarke police took out warrants charging him with misdemeanor battery and felony aggravated battery.

Lemon has been suspended from the team indefinitely, according to the UGA Athletic Association.

Police allege Lemon beat Demarius Jackson, a 20-year-old political science and international affairs major, during a cookout Saturday night at an Athens apartment complex.

Lemon, who allegedly had been drinking liquor, accused Jackson of talking to his girlfriend before he knocked Jackson to the ground with a single punch, police said.

Lemon, who is 6-foot-4 and 274 pounds, continued to pummel the much smaller student until someone pulled him off, according to police.

Jackson was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion and “blowout fracture,” a serious injury to the bone around the eye that might require surgery, Jackson said late Wednesday afternoon, soon after an Athens-Clarke County Magistrate Court judge signed warrants for Lemon’s arrest.

A conviction on an aggravated battery charge is punishable by one to 20 years in prison.

Lemon is the third Georgia football player arrested within three days, and at least the seventh to be arrested this offseason.

Sophomore offensive linemen Justin Anderson and Trinton Sturdivant were booked into the county jail Monday night, after UGA police charged them with battery.

The men allegedly touched a pregnant woman’s stomach and made lewd comments as they followed her at the East Campus Village dormitory Saturday night, police said.

Athens attorney Edward Tolley, attorney for the UGA Athletic Association, said the players denied the charge.

“I’m certainly disappointed in a few of our players who have made poor decisions during the off season,” football coach Mark Richt said in a press release issued by the university. “It is of great concern and we take it very seriously. They will be dealt with accordingly and will pay a price. Each one will be disciplined based on the severity of their actions,” he said.

Wow, for being such an “intelligent” group of people, you Tech fans sure sound like a bunch of friggin idiots.

I find it hilarious when Tech fans use the “academic” excuse as to why UGA is your daddy. “Well, at least our athletes are smarter than yours!”

Uhhh, actually for the most part, they are not. At most universities, the athetes do NOT represent the student population. Don’t believe me?? Go listen to a Josh Nesbitt or Jonathen Dwyer interview. Apparently ebonics is replacing English courses in most Georgia high schools these days. At least UGA fans can admit it.

Tech fans, nobody cares how smart you think you are. When you use academics as an excuse as to why your teams always SUCK, you just make yourselves look like the morons that you truly are.

What’s even more funny is that posters like “jacketnation” make my point even better than I ever could.

Ever notice how Tech fans cry about academics when it comes to football, yet somehow they’re magically able to land top prospects in basketball (though usually one and done) and never seem to mention academics in that sport?

The fact is, none of the top football players want to play in their high school stadium. That’s the reality they can’t admit too.

Your boys have been insulting UGA players for years with these SAME comments, but when someone points out the fact that without special ed prep courses in high school, 90% of Tech’s football players wouldn’t have been allowed in, you get your man thongs in a wad. Love the Tech liberal hypocrisy!!
