Couple of bits of information

It appears that special teams coordinator and A-backs coach Jeff Monken will help coach Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

Monken recently accepted the head coaching position at Georgia Southern. He and the university held a press conference yesterday. It appears he may be splitting some time between Statesboro. The story on Southern’s website said that he has begun his duties for the Eagles.

Item No. 2:

There’s going to be another Georgia Tech golfer on the PGA Tour: Cameron Tringale. He tied for 19th place at the tour Qualifying School with a 10-under par 422. He went 8-under in the event’s last two rounds.

He will join alumni Stewart Cink, Matt Kuchar, Troy Matteson, Bryce Molder and Nicholas Thompson (123rd) on the Tour in 2010.

Jonathan, my bad…….thought ya’ll were unc…..when it come to football, one would be hard pressed to confuse NC (National Championship) with unc! I hear ya on the interviews……don’t recall anyone wanting to talk to unc football players! Peppers was good, though!

To all you dumb Georgia fans – your logic makes no sense. The last three national champs have had at least one loss (LSU had two). What does that mean, that there are four other teams out there making claims to the national championship from 2007 – 2009??

Georgia fans just need to appreciate the fact that Tech played one of its worst games of the year and still had a chance to win. You just got lucky. I am glad that beating Tech has given you something to talk about after such a terrible season. Have fun watching us in a BCS game. PJ now rules the state. . .

Imagine how little life you have if the highlight of your day is to wait for a new update to your main rival/team you look up to’s blog so you can post meaningless insults and recite the six point difference in score of this year’s game and try to pretend it was anything more than a bump in Tech’s season that did not effect in any way the outcome of the conference championship or the bowl picture. Other than bragging rights, this year’s game had no effect on either team’s bowl picture. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to be 13-0 right now, but that would almost be more frustrating because Tech would be ranked #3 and going to the Orange Bowl to face Iowa instead of playing for the NC. Exactly the same as now except ranked #9. We need a playoff NOW!

Buzz,

Actually, the beating by UGA, and SC’s destroying of Clemson, had everything to do with the bowl picture. Had Tech not received, as usual, the bulk of the blown calls in their favor on Saturday night, they would be in the Music City Bowl right now.

Funny how uga has consistent top five recruiting classes, yet manage to go 9-4 in 2008 and 7-5 in 2009. Now that Meyer and Saban are in the SEC, ga isn’t a threat to them because Richt is too soft. Yes, GT fans are proud of their season in spite of our loss to ga. You know the rivalry is back and Paul Johnson will not lose two in a row to you or anyone else. He’s 1-1 against you. Actually, I prefer beating your a$$es at your house and watch your pathetic delusional fan base file out of the stadium before the game is over.

UGA is a consistent top 10 recruiting class, not 5. LSU is too and look how they did last year. USC is a consistent top 5 class and they are having a pretty crappy season as well. So yes, it does happen.

Funny that you’re somehow trying to insult UGA by pointing out the two best coaches in the game are both in the same dominate conference as UGA. That’s really more of a shot at the pathetic ACC

BuzztheKiller

Actually Bingo- that happened because the ACC bowed to Bobby Bowden’s wishes and it screwed Clemson. If Clemson had won, no way a 10-3 team goes to the Music City though. Fortunately, it is a moot point now.

It is obvious that there is ONE pathetic dawg fan using numerous aliases saying the same boring things repeatedly. It is tempting to respond since he is so easy to put down being the Idiot & Fool that he is. Nonetheless, this diverts attention from intelligent discussion of football so we might be well-advised to simply ignore this Moron who sounds like he never graduated high school. He needs to get a life & find something productive to do with his time beyond trash-talking on Tech blogs..

I have two major concerns as do most Tech fans.

1. Iowa will have time to prepare their good defense against the spread option as LSU did.

2. Our defense has not been prepared for recent games allowing teams to take their first possession and shove it down our throats. Our defenders often don’t look loke they know what they are doing. This is poor coaching. I hope Coach Johnson will so something about this for the Orange Bowl and certainly before next season.

On the other hand, I have every confidence that Johnson will do what is necessary to win the game. He has done better in his first two years than any coach I know of, and he learns from his mistakes. He knows that Tech was overconfident after beating Pre-Season #1 UGA and had a let-down for the LSU game. I think he will have them ready this time. This is also why he played down the importance of the UGA game this year because the ACC Championship game was more important which is true. Nonetheless, this was also a mistake in retrospect in my opinion. The Dawgs came in more fired up & better prepared. They played their best game of the year & played out of character. Who knew they wouldn’t turn the ball over and wouldn’t have many penalties since they were one of the most penalized teams in the nation? They “got a little help from their friends” as usual: the SEC refs. Johnson couldn’t do anything to prevent the dirty scheme to deliberately injure our QB, Nesbitt, which is a major reason UGA won the game. Richt brought this concept over from FSU & Mickey Andrews when they repeatedly knocked Joe Hamilton out of games and even announced to an ESPN side-line walker before a game that was their game plan. FSU also went after Florida’s Danny Wuerffle. They tried to injure Nesbitt, Dwyer, and Roddy Jones this year when they saw they were going to lose. This is the legacy Richt brings to Georgia from FSU: play dirty if you have to because winning is more important than Honor. Johnson will have them ready next year. The team should want payback for the loss, the injury to Nesbitt, & the lack of class in dancing on Tech’s logo before the game. Nonetheless, the loss may have been a blessing in disguise since Johnson says “Good teams don’t lose two in a row.” He had them ready and they are now Orange Bowl bound ACC Champs and ranked #9 in the BCS. They have a great TV spot Jan. 5, 8 PM EST with no competing games.
