It may not have the glitz of the battle of the unbeatens in the Fiesta, but the Orange Bowl will be a great matchup of offense vs. defense: Tech’s o’s vs. Iowa’s x’s. Or is it the other way around?
Either way, it should be fun to watch.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said that he couldn’t remember the last time he faced a team that uses this much option, and that trying to simulate it in practice will be quite a challenge.
The Hawkeyes’ offense isn’t flashy, but with a defense as stout as Iowa’s is, they don’t have to be. A couple of scores here and there is all they need. It’s kind of like Tech’s defense. It doesn’t have to stop everyone all the time, just a couple a game seem to work fine.
Anyway, it’s beena long day so I’ll open it up to your thoughts about the matchup.
As always, follow the AJC’s coverage if Georgia Tech on facebook at http://bit.ly/7QyRsX

So the Big East was tired of being dragged down by the ACC so they got out of their Orange Bowl obligation. Can the ACC get any more pathetic??

The Dawg fans posting on here is all I need to see to know the JACKETS are in their heads.
UGA fans on here trying to say that this is a weak BCS bowl…there is no such thing. Would you rather be in the ORANGE BOWL or Shreveport? Thats what I thought.
Also, what is a strong BCS bowl matchup? Beating Hawaii? Losing to Big East Champion West Virginia? Beating a lowly ACC school like FSU with a backup QB who had never played a snap? Thats what I thought.

Hawkeye – We had our share too, but we were not undefeated at the time and had not had those “close calls” by then. The game that really got me was against Indiana which the refs completely botched time and time again. Watching those refs was like watching the SEC refs. I really did not care who won the game, but I thought the game was handed to Iowa. If anything, I was cheering for Iowa in that one given ESPN ’s Heather Dinich’s Indiana affiliation. My comments above really relate to the early season when I watched Iowa closer, really did not follow them after their first loss.
Like I said, this game should be a fun one to watch. I just hope we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot like we did the last bowl game. I don’t see CPJ letting that happen this time. The good thing is he still has the UGA game to point to as an example of what happens when focus is lost.

Maybe this leftovers-laden BCS bowl against a third rate Big (Slow) 10 school can take Coach Manboobs Johnson’s mind off the fact that he got his pants pulled down by Willie Martinez at Historic Mark Richt Field.

UGA–Top 10 recruiting classes every year, 3 BCS games
GT–Never had a Top 10 class, 1 BCS game, 1 probably next year.

Actually Johnny, if beating Tech would have been as big a deal to the bowl committees as it is to you, UGA would have easily been in the Chick-fil-a Bowl. Apparently, Tech fans are the only ones giving the tools that much props

Buddy this is not a political blog. And I know you didn’t start it but this is red state territory so you can take your liberal, tree hugging views somewhere else. Really knoles? Because by the way UGA fans have acted this was a REALLY REALLY REALLY big win.
So what you are saying is that even with beating a top 10 BCS team, the bowl game in their own state still passed on UGA for the team whose coach has vowed never to lose to UGA? Sounds like UGA just lost another recruiting battle to the VOLS.

CPJ a genius? I just laughed so hard I $hit myself. Anybody who gets their pants pulled down by Senor Willie Martinez is no genius. He’s overrated, and he runs a high school offense. If the Bees played in a real conference they would be 7-5, 6-6, 5-7 consistently. Johnson’s got an ideal situation – playing in a crappy conference with a moronic fanbase that is dumb enough to pop a boner everytime he opens his country mouth.

Bulldog Nation,
Next year you’re starting from scratch again with a new QB, a new DC, and a shaky OC. You won’t be highly ranked pre-season, so you’ll likely have NO shot at a MNC (assuming you’d actually win all your games, ha!). Tech, meanwhile, will probably be ranked pre-season top 10 (assuming everybody comes back, and pre-season top 20) if one or two players leave early.
So, while you’re in Shreveport, make sure you make reservations for the 2011 Independence Bowl too!!!!

With the exception of Nebitt, every key player for Johnson will be going bye-bye at season’s end. Imagine how even crappier your defense will be without Morgan? Back to the basement of the ACC where you belong

TAMPA, Fla. – As Georgia Tech wide receiver Demaryius Thomas headed out of Raymond James Stadium to the team bus following the Jackets’ 39-34 win over Clemson in the Dr. Pepper ACC championship game, he answered one final very important question.
Yes, Thomas said with a huge grin, he’s coming back.
Apparently, the NFL can wait for at least one of the Jackets’ most talented juniors.
Really?
“I’m coming back,” Thomas repeated.
On Saturday, Georgia Tech gave him a reason to.
This was on ESPN.com. Great to have a stud like Thomas coming back!

If UGA counted titles the way the bees do, they would have awarded one to themselves in 2007. Two publications declared UGA the champs – soooo…by tech’s math that awards UGA two national titles, right? At least…that’s how the nerds tally them.
I mean, c’mon. Claiming a national title by winning the Citrus Bowl? Gimme a break.

NCR – There is no IF 1 or 2 players leave – Dwyer and Morgan will be gone. Any junior likely to be drafted in the 1st 2 rounds this year should leave for the draft and get a good contract before the NFL locks out the players in 2011.
GT should be ranked preseason next year but who knows where they will be ranked – probably in the teens like this year. Remember that it is all about perceptions and that half the voters have no real clue about more than 10 – 15 teams. Some teams always get votes.
Think about it – FSU was ranked #1 in the Atlantic in preseason, #18 in the AP, this year (just because they are FSU – 5 years of underperforming not withstanding) and likely will be ranked next year.

@gt45:
I was sitting on the Clemson side, 50 yard line, fifth row from the field. I can definitely say to you that Tech fans were MUCH louder and into the game than were the Clemson fans. Me and my two buddies commented on it the whole game. I was very impressed, to say the least!
