A few weeks ago, as Georgia Tech’s volleyball team was on the verge of potentially missing out on at-large berth to the NCAA tournament after losses to Miami and Florida State, coach Tonya Johnson asked Paul Johnson to come talk to her women.
He not only came and spoke, he provided them with a little motivation with a sack of marbles.
He gave each player a marble and told them to keep it because they were playing for all the marbles.
Johnson said before each game they take the marbles from the girls, and then give them back after the game.
They are 3-0 since and will play Baylor in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday in Los Angeles.

Gt4ever; You don’t know what you’re talking about. GA tech hosted a UGA commit at the game Saturday night game (unofficial visit), as well as several other key targets that the Bulldogs are going after, and I can assure you that your comments are WAY off base.
All I can say is that people need to cool their jets a bit on where these kids are going now that Mark Richt has proved that he has lied to them, and see where things end up. I can assure you that the comments from the kids at the game where quite positive regarding GA Tech, even though we lost
They loved the fact that the team never quit; that they played together as a TEAM, and they loved the atmosphere at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Some even commented on how well the coaches worked the players throughout the game in spite of the long odds and injuries.
No, don’t think for one minute that UGA got one inch of leverage from the win Saturday night. If anything, what’s happened in the last 24 hours, GA Tech has come out the really big winner.

7-5 is pathetic, for UGA standards. Yet Tech would make Cracker Jack rings for a couple more wins. And 7-5 bested your 10-2. Nuff said.

Interesting that there are lots of UGA supporters on this blog writing some very funny stuff. I enjoy the simplistic comments. I suppose they are not looking forward to their bowl game in Shreveport as an explanation as to why all of the interest on a Georgia Tech site.
For more Georgia Tech Football articles go to http://isportsweb.com. Read about the Yellow Jackets getting ready to play for a championship this Saturday. Go Jackets!

On the contrary Cuttysark,
I for one do one we land in Shreveport for punishment. I want Richt to send the message that this is a bowl that is meant for the Techs of the world, not UGA.
Enjoy your consolation prize “championship” game Saturday. Since we all know that UGA is the real ACC king

Here’s hoping your right GTinsider……. To your comment that I don’t know what I’m talking about…. All you have to do is look up the stats on recruiting to determine that we are not in the same league with UGA. We have never been in the same league, CPJ has only been recruiting for one year, hopefully he can turn that statistic around… If he can’t turn it around then we will continue to have our once in awhile success with UGA….
My disappointment comes to the fact that our beloved coach down played the importance of beating UGA. Beating UGA is not the most important GOAL we should have every year, but it sure comes CLOSE! I will also submit that if he doesn’t beat UGA more times than he loses, then this will become the first failure in a long list of successful coaching stints. Just my opinion and yours will probably be different.
Again, I don’t even pretend that UGA got any leverage, they already have most of the leverage in recruiting….That’s the reason we have LOST the last 8 out of 9 times…

The real question for UGA fans is “why can’t we compete in our conference”? We have the same size football factory school as the other SEC teams, we have the same fluff majors to attract athletes as the other SEC schools, we have (supposedly) five star recruits. So exactly why is it that we’re second tier?
Because we’re UGA. Man it sucks, it sucks, it sucks to be a Georgia Bulldog!
At least we only lost to Kentucky and not both Kentucky and Vandy this year.

If A.J. Green was there, why wasn’t he wearing his jersey? Was he afraid like the rest of Ugag that they were going to lose badly? For all the Ugag fans, please enjoy this, because GT played their worst game and your team played their best game of the year and GT almost won. I give props to Ugag for sticking with something that works for a change. Something Mark Ritch over looked is keeping the pass first run third Booboo calling the plays. Maybe he should look at Bobo going with Martiniez. I sure will laugh if the next guy you get to run the defense is worse than Martinez.
Really?

I love UGA fans. When your season is defined by a win over TECH then you know things have really gone downhill fast. I find it to be the ultimate complement. The more times you say “30-24″ and “nerds” the stronger my point gets. Maybe one day you guys can marvel over a win against another 10-1 team. As for now, you guys are on the ground floor looking up at the penthouse. The view is much better up here for now. Let’s hope the Jackets can take care of Clemson and then TCU. We’ll leave it to the Dogs to take care of their name calling, their insecurites and eventually Central Michigan or someone of that heavy caliber.

And Doug, you need to keep this in mind, had UGA’s receivers actually caught their surefire TD balls while in full stride, not to mention if the UGA offense wouldn’t have gift wrapped Tech’s lone score of the first half, the game would have over before the beginning of the 4th quarter. All this WITHOUT the best player in the stadium being on the field.

you had your secondary in during the 4th quarter? i sure hope you were playing your secondary i mean it is a pretty important part of your defense.

Now your telling me KY is a good SEC team??? Just because they beat the dawgs dosent make them a good SEC. Don’t kid yourself. And don’t kid yourself about UGA being undefeated with Tech’s schedule. Not only did UGA loose 5 games this year, but look at their wins. ASU (last second field goal to win) and USC ( on your goalline with a wide open running back out of the back field that the QB just didnt see). In other words, UGA could easily have 2 more losses this year. VT, Miami, Clemson and even UNC would not be easy games for UGA this yr.

GT4Ever, Agree 100%. We had an opportunity last week and let it get away. I’m a big fan of CPJ and his spread offense, but was definitely not happy with the way he downplayed the importance of the game. Almost seems he was justifying a loss before it happened. Was too similar to his comments before the Chicken bowl last year. I want our team to know that every game is important, but beating the dawgs has to be a priority.
I’m still very much on the fence regarding CPJ and recruiting. I realize therankings aren’t all they’re made out to be, but it worries me when I see teams like Tennessee, Auburn, UGA, and even NC getting the higher ranked players. CPJ and his offense can only take us so far. We still must have the athletes to play the game. That was woefully apparent on the defensive side of the ball last Saturday. We were outmanned by bigger and faster players. That needs to change if we are to be more than a twice a decade threat to the dawgs.
