Johnson says no one from Notre Dame has called
Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson said no one from Notre Dame has tried to contact him or his lawyer during the past 24 hours.
“Not unless they got me out of watching film, because that’s what I’ve been doing,” Johnson said.
On 790AM this morning, former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said that Johnson would be the perfect fit for Notre Dame because he likes to run the ball and doesn’t really care what other people think. “He’s right on two things,” Johnson said.
Tuberville then said that the Tech job is better than the job at South Bend, Ind. [Johnson wasn't asked to comment about that statement]
As you may remember, Jeff Schultz asked Johnson about the possibility of coaching the Irish a few weeks ago, and Johnson pretty much dismissed the idea.
Charlie Weis was fired by Notre Dame on Monday.
It should be pointed out that Weis also didn’t care what others thought, and offense wasn’t the issue for Notre Dame. Defense was their biggest issue.

I’ve seen a fair share of crimes in Athens lately as well. Two family friends had their houses broken into in the past 2 weeks. Campus isn’t exactly safe at night either. Good idea to keep your eyes open no matter where you go to school.

“Defense was their biggest issue”…and guess who their DC is: Jon Tenuta. The man formerly known as a defensive genius. The man who would have had GT competing for national titles if it wasn’t for Chan Gailey and Reggie Ball (or so the grumbling Tech fans would have you believe.) So what happened- did he just become a terrible coach over the last year? Or does Notre Dame just not have the athletes? Or was he overrated to start with?

first? who woulda thought…
well, be it GT or ND, in the fbs, the regular season will always be successful for CPJ. That is unless the good teams we play have a week off on their schedule or they take a week off from focusing on their opponent for that week. Example: both teams on the field at Bobby Dodd prepared for their opponent for 2 straight weeks (according to my reliable sources). Does it help??? Well, it can’t hurt. After the regular season, the 3 or 4 weeks that a solid (upper echelon) bowl opponent of a CPJ team will have plenty of preparation to try and slow us down for a quarter or two.
Now, CPJ wants the fbs to go to a playoff system like the fcs. That could play well right into the strenght of the spread option… minimal preparation for the opponent’s defense.
As for Tuberville’s comments… for what its worth, any job that requires you win a national championship within 4 years may be worth the 4-5 million it will pay. However, how much damage have you caused to your resume if you can’t live up to the expectations. That may be 4-5 years lost to another job that you could have been building success “under the radar.”
Compared to ND, GT is definitely under the radar… that is until 2010! Let’s play for all the marbles and keep it all the way turnt up! Keep CPJ at all cost$$$ & Go jackets! THWG!

D Rad made the perfect hire for GT with CPJ…the man can coach and he will re-heat the UGA-tech rivalry. His system is perfect for tech…it is an equalizer for lesser talent..not a knock..just a fact.
If i were a tech fan my concern would be can CPJ build defensively…doesnt seem he has ever had a good defense anywhere he has been.

Actually, I know we wouldn’t be 10-2 if we swapped schedules with Georgia. Probably 8-4 at best. Losses to Florida,LSU,Georgia, and probably Tennessee and maybe Auburn. Oklahoma St was tough before misfortune hit them…so we could even be 7-5.

It’s a rivalry so it will hurt. Not sure about GT already selling out. That’s not what I’m hearing and I live in Tampa as well.. obviously. Clemson will bring a lot of people. This is not a knock, but I have never known Tech to travel well. Clemson does and it will show. Tech still wins on the scoreboard, but not fan attendence.
To to say that this past Satursday game did not mean anything is a total farse. This rivalry has been going longer than we have been alive.

Georgia Tech was the most overrated team in college football and UGA just proved it. The Bulldogs just out muscled Tech at the line of scrimmage and that is the main reason they beat Tech. Tech better hope that they get Boise State in a Bowl game or they could be exposed again. Clemson may expose them, because Clemson physically whipped them the first time, pure luck and bad officiating gift wrapped an undeserved win in that first game with Clemson!

Tech can’t get over the fact that they were truly overrated! They couldn’t even win their own state championship. 1990….tech co-national champs…and eventhough tech was in contention for championship they were NOT invited to a MAJOT bowl….no one wanted them as their sorry azz fan base has NEVER stepped up and supported the team and traveled!

Colorado is the only real champ from 1990. CU played 4 conference champions that year while Tech played a JV schedule.
