Johnson wins ACC coach of the year
For the second consecutive year, Paul Johnson was named the ACC’s coach of the year on Tuesday.
Johnson received 24 of a possible 40 votes from the media. Clemson’s Dabo Swinney finished second with 10 votes.
Georgia Tech is 10-2 this season and will play the Tigers in the ACC championship game at 8 p.m. Saturday in Tampa.
The Yellow Jackets went 9-4 last season, Johnson’s first at Tech.
Tech’s offense this season led the ACC in scoring (35 points per game), total offense (440.5 ypg), rushing offense (305 ypg) and pass efficiency (160.7 rating).

Congratulations to Paul Johnson. He is an excellent football coach with a history of winning everywhere he has coached. Johnson has greatly improved Tech’s program and turned them into a tough and worthy adversary for my Dawgs. Paul Johnson deserves the honor of being named the ACC’s Coach of the Year. Best of luck in Tampa.

The posts to this point have been pretty pathetic. Not a single classy comment by a UGA fan. While I wish we beat UGA every time we take the field, I still respect Mark Richt and the job he has done with that program. Insulting him and his program would be the last thing I would do if he were to win the SEC coach of the year award. Not surprised by the comments, but disappointed that they feel the need to completely tarnish in such a harsh manner something that tech fans are proud of and believe in.

After a year of reading the most slanderous. heinous, trashy and classless postings from Tech fans no one should be surprised at the vicious rebuttals Dawg fans are heaping upon Tech fans after losing to the Bulldogs. However, I will state that Paul Johnson is one hell of a good football coach and deserves to be named ACC Coach of the Year. This Georgia Bulldog does congratulate Coach Paul Johnson. He has really improved Tech’s football program and at least temporarily has the support of Tech fans which waivers easily. But for the life of me I cannot understand why so many Tech fans left so many empty seats in their stadium this past season.

Tech finally has a good football coach and they still don’t buy tickets to the football games. How long before PJ gets tired of the lack of support and bolts to a bigger football program that pays more money and fills up a much larger stadium. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up at South Carolina when Spurrier leaves (which no doubt won’t be long.) Carolina has an 80,000 seat stadium that is filled to capacity whether they win or lose unlike Tech’s 55,000 seat stadium, very rarely full. And don’t forget that Georgia Tech fans have proven themselves over the generations to be the most fair weather fans in the south!

Congrats Coach Johnson, well deserved. Guess some on this blog were watching a different game than I did. Except for a uncharateristic dropped pass, Tech would have been 1st down with a minute and thirty something at the Georgee 36. only down 6, a real opportunity to win the ball game. Such are the fortunes of football, certainly no beat down as some suggest. Anyone who has an inkling about football knew that georgee had beat themselves in the majority of games they lost. It was evident that if they didn’t kill themselves with stupid mistakes, penalties and turnovers it would be a close game. Even the Vegas boys knew that, Touting Tech as a 7 point favorite, well if Tech is a 7 point favorite on Grant Field then its really a toss up. Coach Richt had a good plan and his players executed it. We didn’t play our best game, but we had a chance to win in the end and didn’t get it done. To say we were beaten by a mediocre team is only a partial truth. (see above).
I have every confidence that we shall return the “favor” next year in Athens. As my old friend Billy Miller used to say “The sun don’t shine on the same Dog’s but every day.”

Few things, first off, you and every other Yech fan would have bet your left nut that you’d win by 3 scores. UGA had just lost to UK the week before and was without their best player, so please, don’t pretend now that you claim you knew it’d be close.
Being down 6 with a minute and a half to go in the game with no timeouts and no real air attack gets you nowhere. Tech only moves the ball on the ground, and with no timeouts running the ball does you nothing. So no, you didn’t have a prayer at that point. Unless of course Nesbitt magically connected with one of his classic eyes closed, head down bs passes.

You forgot to mention the missed FG, Joe Cox’s overthrown pass (that should’ve been a TD) and T. King’s dropped pass at the end zone, any of which would’ve sealed the victory by UGA making your dropped 1st down catch a mute point. Your lame excuses are getting old. For every one of your mistakes & boggles there is a counter one. They broke very even. The only 2 drives UGA didn’t score on was the lost fumble and the missed FG. What if they didn’t lose that fumble or miss that FG. SEE! Your team lost the game at the line of scrimmage where the Bulldog offensive line opened holes an 80 year old lady could run through. It just boils down to one fact: the Georgia Bulldogs whipped the GT Jackets on historic Grant Field. Nothing more! Nothing less!

If you include the whole conference, your 6th, 7th, 8th – I don’t know and really don’t care. Let me ask you, what hurts more, the fact you beat us and you will play in the Peach Bowl or the fact you beat us and we are still ranked top ten, still have a shot at our conference championship, or that we have a shot at a BCS bowl. I could not care less hat any dog fan thinks or has to say. I know the character we have within our team. I know we have the ability to play lights out saturday night and clinch th ACC as well as well as a BCS bowl berth. I am behind this team and it’s coaches 100% and if any of the rest of you are you will ignore the worthless bantering of the past(the uga game) because it is over, we lost and we can’t change that. Let’s help encourage our team to the future and the goals that are still within our reach. Looking back will get you beat every time. Let the dawgs sit around why we go out play football and win a championship!

Just over the wire… the entire Tech football team got mugged just of campus on Saturday night. As has been the case around the Tech campus muggings have been rampant but nothing like this. Players reported being pancaked, run over and generally manhandeled.

Buzz Bell marries truegold92… In traditional Tech fashion two former Tech students were married and celebrated their honeymoon at the annual Tech UGA game. It was a dissappointing night as the jackets were crushed by the worst UGA team in 13 years and they both lost their pocket protectors.

Consider this just two years ago UGA was whining that they didn’t get into the national championship while we were firing our coach who had lost to them in each of his six years. Now UGA is giving their coach a Gatorade bath for beating us to get to 7 wins and we’re embarrassed that one of our two losses came to such a mediocre team.

I appreciate your upbeat optimism, but I think you’re beating a dead horse here. There’s no reason why we should have lost to the weakest UGA team we’ve seen in years. And they didn’t even have their best player available. Something is seriously lacking with this team. We’ve benefited from playing in a very subpar conference against inferior competition. Without the trickery against Clemson we would have lost that game as well. I have zero confidence for Saturday.

Truegold92, you’re right man. Our team is going to come out this weekend and beat the Tigers. It’s going to be a tough game, but CPJ hasn’t lost two in a row while coaching at Tech. It’s going to happen. This isn’t the 2006 Jackets squad and Gailey’s coaching. Please people, stop whining and support our team. Don’t be like the UGA posters who exactly 4 days ago wanted Richt and Martinez fired and Joe Cox replaced. Seriously, show some support.

A classless coach at a program with a lot of classless fans. Hard to understand a HEAD coach making the comment (see below) that he made this morning on 790 The Zone. I thought he was smarter than that. Looks like he’s now gotten sucked in just like all the other nerds. PJ now too sounds obsessed with UGA and their fans. It’ll just make next year’s loss that much more difficult for him.

Great post and appreciate your honesty. It’s rare to get that from Tech fans. What’s lacking at Tech is a solid defensive front and a secondary. Yes, Tech does benefit from playing in the ACC but for whatever reason has yet to truly take advantage of their schedule. Maybe Johnson can get in a routine, but I don’t see his offense being the darling of college football for much longer.

HungryDawg our line got manhandled all night. Games are fought in the trenches. UGA won that battle so they won the war. It’ll take lots of recruiting to fix the defense altogether. UGA has always had more talent than GT (always will) and when Willie gets it right, it shows.
