The No. 10 Yellow Jackets have worn white jerseys for every one of their home games since Paul Johnson was hired, but Wake Forest declined Tech’s request to be allowed to wear white for this weekend’s game. (NCAA rules say that the visiting team is supposed to wear white, unless it grants the home team permission to do so.)
Deacons coach Jim Grobe said there were two reasons behind that decision:
No. 1, Grobe said he prefers his team not wear black because of the higher temperatures in the South. That’s carried over to this game. Temperature at kickoff is predicted to be 66 degrees.
No. 2, he said he usually leaves it up to the team to decide which jersey they will wear. The players wanted to wear white.

The weekly records watch from colleague Matt Dempsey:
Things were a little tighter than people wanted against Vanderbilt but I think fans are pretty happy about a solid win against an SEC opponent. A huge game for Jonathan Dwyer on the ground led the way. Let’s see how it affected the records chase

10. Lenny Snow 202 1966
NR Josh Nesbitt 188 2009
With three games left to go in the regular season, Nesbitt just needs 15 carries to land in the top ten for most rushes in a season. He’ll have to crank out some high carry days to get in the top 5 before bowl or ACC title games.

12. Jonathan Dwyer 428 2007-
13. Josh Nesbitt 413 2007-
Nesbitt and Dwyer are still on pace for being in the top 10 on the career rushes list.
Dwyer needs 33 rushes in the next three games to unseat Lenny Snow from the top ten. Twenty two carries in the next four games will push Dwyer past Reggie Ball.

A second huge game in a row for Dwyer makes it much easier for him to land a second season in the top ten for rushing. He needs to average 78 yards a game to finish the regular season past C.J. Williams.
Nesbitt had a great game for Tech but his rushing numbers were under what he needed to crack into the top ten. He now needs 125 yards a game to round out the regular season in the top ten.

Dwyer blew past Joe Burns with his big day against Vandy. Top five is there for the taking but likely due to the post season. He’d have to ring up 200+ rushing in the next three games to get it before then.
It’s going to be a close shave for Nesbitt to get on the top ten career rushing list. He’d have to average 160 yards a game to get in by the end of the regular season. Add in two postseason games and it is a slightly more manageable 96 yards.

Nesbitt’s two trips to the end zone moved him into the top five and past his teammate Dwyer. It seems quite likely Nesbitt will get at least one more touchdown in the next three games. It’s easy to imagine Nesbitt getting seven more TDs and having more rushing touchdowns in a season than anyone in Tech history by the time the postseason wraps up.

Stats, Numbers. It is about the team as a whole Greg. Records are there sure and they will be broken again and again. GT is in a special place now and because of the “O”, period. Everyone is working together – something they do not do 65 miles east of Atlanta. There are no “me’s” in this team; only “we’s”.
Nesbitt, Dwyer, and Thomas and many more will grace the covers of Sports Illustrated next year – if they decide to hang around for a real chance for a National Championship. If they are smart – and I think they are very smart look forward to many records being broken.

thanks to that unfortunate team over in Athens for putting dress code in the front of everyone’s mind. Just wear some combo of white and old gold and take care of business!
Wake Forest is one of the few ACC teams that GT has not faced since CPJ was hired as coach (NC State & Maryland are the others). Wake gave Miami all they could handle and Jim Grobe will have them ready to play … I look for a close one with the resilience of GT being the difference and getting the W in the end.

We wear Russell b/c Warren Buffett (who owns Russell) pays us the big bux to do so, and a lot of Tech alumni are in Russell management. That said, nobody thought that Auburn–who also sends a lot of alumni to work for Russell (formerly based in Alex City AL before they moved to ATL)–would switch from Russell to Under Armour. Maryland wears UA because UA’s founder went to UM.
We owe Wake a big payback for the 2006 ACCCG.
WGASA about uni colors. Wear gold jerseys and white britches and make Wake wear red and green–red clay and grass stains.
In other news, Nezz just passed Joe Hamilton to own all of the career QB rushing records…with almost a season and a half left.

Wake pulled that cr@p in 2006 at the ACC title game. In a rain dreary match, it appeared Wake looked like GT and GT looked like Wake with those dark mustard colors on. I swear it is part of Grobe’s plan to offset the Jackets any way he can by trying to take their image away from them. Laugh all you want for those who think these matters do not count, I’m telling you they do.

I wasnt sure if GT was allowed to wear white if we took a 15 yard penalty? I know that is the case if a visiting team wants to wear their home jersey the home team must agree or the visitor must take a 15 yard penalty on the kickoff. Is this the case here or is this a different rule? If so I say take the penalty if your GT and say this is OUR home jersey. GO TECH WRECK WAKE

I could be wrong, but I was told a long time ago that Georgia Tech and LSU were the only two teams in the country that had been granted special permission by the NCAA to wear their white uniforms at home.

billcanoe, yes….the NCAA rewrote the uniform standards in the mid-80’s or so and set up the “home wears colored jerseys” standard, but grandfathered GT’s and LSU’s ability to wear white at home as long as the visiting team agreed. (The visiting team would have to notify the home team…GT or LSU… prior to the start of the season that they intended to wear their white road jerseys).
The NCAA has, since, revised the regs to allow anyone to wear white jerseys at home if the visitors agree. Both teams can also wear colored jerseys (as long as the teams and officials agree there is enough contrast), but the visitor wearing the colored jerseys is penalized.

Players of opposing teams shall wear jerseys of contrasting colors, and the visiting team shall wear white jerseys. White jerseys may be worn by the home team when the teams have agreed before the season.
I think you are referring to the incident where both teams where non-white jerseys. If the colors are contrasting enough this is possible, but the away team would be penalized a personal foul penalty at the start of the game. Obviously both teams can’t wear white or jerseys of the same approximate color (like UT wanting to wear orange at the Bama game when Bama would be wearing red/crimson).

I think I read that the SEC had implemented its own rule that allows the home team to wear white without the other team’s consent. Hence, LSU wears white at home.

It’ll take a healthy senior QB, a near-perfect day of tackling on D and probably +2 in the turnover dept. for my visiting alma mater to beat my childhood team (and father’s alma mater).
Go Deacs!
P.S. Sorry, engineers, we couldn’t give y’all a cushion against the Cane-victs. That one really hurt.

GT/Wake, ya’ll played a great game last Sat, but ya’ll are not any better that Vandy, you have no chance in ATL Saturday, and when I say no chance, what i mean is NO CHANCE

GTSteve, I’d say the Deacs played a great first 35 min. against Miama last Sat. and then apparently a black cat raced down our sideline…
I won’t bite on your Vandy insult. Keepin’ it polite… and real. We just haven’t had the difference-maker like y’all do with Nesbitt (e.g., fumble take-back vs. Criminoles, ice-it sideline run against Hokies, etc) and I don’t mean for a whole game, rather a couple plays here and there. That’s the difference. See our three losses by 3 and one loss by 1.
Don't forget, Jackets...

…that you beat Clemson by 3, and lost to Miami by a bunch. Clemson beat Wake by 35, and beat Miami by 3. Miami beat Wake by 1. So, you guys have a chance on Saturday, and with CPJ calling plays, you have a real good chance – but you still have your defense to keep the game close!
And, who are the dumb arses who keep saying “wear white and take the penalty”? Both teams cannot wear white jerseys! Even engineers, industrial mgmt. majors and who—s should be able to discern that!

GT/Wake…Wake is a well coached team with a good QB. Bottom line, Wake cannot stop our offense. We will score at will. You will not win this game.

Like GT childhood/Wake manhood, I too am a Wake alum that grew up a Tech fan, and this game will be a little bittersweet for me either way it turns out.
As far as individual records go, I’d say that Jonathan Dwyer has a great shot at reviving his bid to repeat as offensive player of the year if the Deacs defend (or fail to defend) the dive like we did against Navy. What were 30 yd gains for Navy B-backs will be 60 yd TDs for Dwyer.
Anyways, here’s hoping Skinner plays and keeps it competitive. Go Deacs!

I never thought I would see CJ Williams name again on a GT Blog. That guy had the heart of mouse. He could’ve been a first round pick…all the talent in the world and no heart. But he drove a phat car and G’ed up all the women in the ATL. I hope all the records are broken so he moves out of the top 10 in all categories. He cost us in 95 and 96 with his sorry arse blitz pick us and unwillingness to prepare for games.

Even though stats are great, the Jackets need to take it one game at a time. Wake Forest is another game and another challange. In college football things can happen and by things I mean anything.

Only 113 days till the Tech beat down in Atlanta. Its posted in the locker room at Georgia…beware Tech fans its gonna hurt so bad you won’t be able to show your faces. Tech always has been and will continue to be a second tier college football program. I’ll bet you that there will be more Dawg fans at Grant Field than Tech fans for the game. Isn’t it amazing that Tech consistently is out recruited by not only Georgia but also Clemson, Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn and more recently Alabama in its own state? That fact alone should tell you that the Tech program is not thought of very highly throughout the South. Have your childish fun now Tech fans posting on this blog cause after this year’s game Tech will be back in its rightful place….irrelavant in college football!

When was the last time Tech won the mighty ACC? ….keep dreaming and posting on this blog….I need a good laugh every day.

The truth hurts doesn’t it Tech Fans…..Tampa Gator is that all you have? Doak Walker award? Choice?…get a life. I’d start naming the Georgia backs and players now in the NFL..but I’d run out of room. What a bunch of pompous phonies. How many championships did Calvin Johnson win for Tech while he was there? And you’re telling me I give Georgia bloggers a bad name….stop I’m really laughing hard now. Come see me when you win the ACC…or a BCS game…or sell out your stadium for a home game. Until then NOBODY that closely follows college football thinks Tech football is RELEVANT!

Are you kidding me. Tech wasn’t even a consensus NC winner in 1990. The poll that mattered didn’t have Tech #1.You asked if you are supposed to be scared by my rhetoric…..I really don’t care. All I do is state the facts. Just because you Tech fans live in a dream world and interpret them the way that makes you feel better about yourselves is your problem. Believe me your team is not that good. Average at best. Tech will not win the ACC, and definitely WILL NOT beat Georgia. In looking at the Tech schedule…I see Tech losing at least five games and possibly six. I predict that Tech will lose to Georgia by at least 17 points……Tech is a team that actually dropped out of the SEC because they thought they were better than everyone else and where did it get Tech?…relegated to a second tier team in the ACC. When Tech consistently has double digit win seasons, wins the ACC, and plays in meaningful BCS bowl games you’ll be able to pound your chest and tell me and everyone else that will listen how great Tech is until then….the Tech football program is irrelevant!
