There seems to be neither rhyme nor reason to why Georgia Tech hasn’t won in Charlottesville since 1990.
But, it hasn’t.
It’s lost by one point (2001). It’s lost by 31 (1992).
Tech coach Paul Johnson hasn’t put too much stock into history. As I wrote in Monday’s paper, he said it doesn’t help you block and tackle, and it doesn’t give you any points.
So, this may be one time when the team’s general lack of experience may prove a benefit.
There are only seven fifth-year seniors (and five on scholarship) who could be familiar with the house of horrors that has been Charlottesville.
————-
Johnson wasn’t able to speak to us after practice today because of a speaking engagement in Macon. So, I don’t have a lot of news for you.
I would like to know what you thought of the new videos on MegaJackeTron that played during Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech. I wrote about them in the notebook in Tuesday’s paper. That story should be posted soon.

Since we were the first to bring up Josh for Heisman, maybe we should ask CPJ privately if he would rather we recognize Josh or any other player. Some coaches would rather hand out their praise in some other way. We are extremly fortunate having CPJ here. Did you notice his conversation with Josh on the sidelines after the bad pitch. Like father and son. GO TECH

You know what I like about PJ, there are no clipboards, no pieces of paper with plays on it, just a coach with a knowledge of the game and a firm belief in what he wants to do, at all times.
My seat mate noted that at the critical point of the game, GT with a 3rd and 6 (?) and a time out called, PJ was right in the middle of the huddle with the offense, giving instruction and determining the best play to run. Not standing off to the side huddled with assistants, or having assistants huddled with the team. And guess what happened, TD!!!!
We got ourselves a real football coach and it’s great.

I loved the videos that came on when it was third down, and the comments that were made by the players when they were saying, “let’s make some noise, we want to get our defense off the field”. Or if not those exact words, something like that, it was so loud by that time it was hard to tell exactly! That’s the most noise I have ever heard on a third down play and this is my 35th year of attending GT games….female GT engineering grad, class of 78!

I am no rapper fan or even into that sort of BS but if it fires up and motivates our JACKETS so be it “GANGSTER OUT” !!!! But the focus now has to be on the Cavs who seem to get up every year for Tech, I agree that CPJ has come out on top of every game Except the Chicken Bowl so far and I have all the confedence this weekend in Chrville will be no different.I expect our team to blow them out by a score of 48-17….

I’ll be more pumped about the season if we can get past UVA. We were in this position exactly 10 years ago. We were 6-1 and ranked 7th with Joe Hamilton as the Heisman front runner and lost 45-38.

Just a little note of encouragement: Last week Sagarin ranked the conferences in this order:
PAC-10, SEC, ACC, Big East, Big 12 Big Ten.
This week Sagarin ranks them:
Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-10, Big East, ACC, SEC.
The Big Ten went from last to first and the SEC went from second to last, and neither league played a substantial non-conference game last weekend.

The VT game was great!
Enjoyed the whole thing. Atmosphere in the stadium was thrilling, to say the least! To see the players and crowd unite in our joy was so contagious. In 50 years never seen the crowd so into it!!!
Paul Johnson is the MAN! And can he COACH!
He will keep the players focused. Just remember LSU.

I really see GT running the table with the rest of our schedule. I agree with others, if we run the table then we should be BCS bound.
