For those who made the trip to Tallahassee, you certainly got your money’s worth.
For those who didn’t, well that’s cool too.
It was like nothing I’ve ever seen, real or in a video game.
9 consecutive touchdowns.
63 points in the first half.
1,000 yards of offense.
1 punt.
What does it mean?
It means that Tech’s offense is really rolling (more on that in Tuesday’s paper, or Monday evening’s ajc.com), and that Tech’s defense has some work to do before Saturday’s all-important game against Virginia Tech.
FSU was able to complete pretty much any pass in the first half, and if not for drops, in the second.
Tech seems particularly susceptible to passes in the middle of the field. I’m not a coach and couldn’t tell you why or how, but that’s just my impression. It happened against Miami and the Seminoles.
They also seem susceptible to runs between the tackles. Again, couldn’t tell you why or how. I hope to get some more answers about that, and to verify the accuracy of my observation, this week.
I do know this, Tech coach Paul Johnson said they can’t get into a shootout against the Hokies, as they have done the past two weeks against FSU and Mississippi State. He said their defense is too good.

GT is all heart and Josh is just flat out a warrior
When he took that late hit and his helmet flew off and he got up and kept going on the next play….that is the stuff that champions are made of. You can’t coach that. He’s all heart.

Ok I see it like this. Tech lost three great defensive players to the NFL. This years defense is very young and will get better. We have lost one game so far. We will be underdogs against VT but I believe the d will come out swinging Saturday.

PleasePlease
When Paul Johnson has been at GT for 9 years like St Richt, then come back on here and quote UGA vs GT bowl comparisons and top 10 finishes, etc. Believe me, UGA will be trailing GT in all catagories.
In all your attempts to bash a program who has historically been better as a program (i.e., double the amount of NC’s and a more recent NC) you have only proven one thing; Chan Gailey was a God aweful coach which ultimately led to the decline of our program.
One thing is for sure, with CPJ at the helm, GT is more likely to win a NC before UGA.

I love it when UGA fans post how irrelevant Tech is and how no one cares. The very fact that you’d take time out of your day to even read a GT blog much less post on one even if it’s to say that “no one cares about Tech” show that in fact someone cares……YOU DO.

PleasePlease–I will not call you a moron because that would be entirely to complementary. You are really struggling for something to criticize the Jackets for and can’t find fault with UGA,who incidently lost to a pitiful Tenn. team. I notice a lack of the usual number of UGA people on this blog today—I wonder why.

Please Please… return to your own blog and discuss which coach should be fired and which top ten recruit is a washout, and other excuses. This blog is reserved for discussing how to upset the #4 team in the country and getting to a conference championship game. We will deal with you last Sat in November. Until then you are dismissed.

PleasePlease “Enjoy Dwyer while you can because he will leave after this year just like Moreno did.”
hmm, let’s ponder that incredible, insightful, doomsday statement. WHAT WILL WE DO?!?
I guess, we’ll have to give the ball to Anthony Allen, or maybe Roddy Jones (You remember him don’t you?), Embry Peoples, Marcus Wright, Lucas Cox, etc…
Or maybe throw the ball to Stephen Hill, oh, I forgot, we can’t pass the ball.
I guess, we will be a 3-3 team losing to 3-3 teams.

OK, back to the real team in the State of Georgia. GT will find enough defense to beat the hokies 35-31.
I almost said 38 but that would mean somehow/someway we kicked a fieldgoal. That ain’t happening. 4th and goal, ball on the 17, CPJ is going for it.
I hope it doesn’t come down to a FG. Scott Blair has got to get his head right for this game.

I was there and my view is different. Yes, the defense gave up a few long runs but for the most part the FSU running attack was stopped. We forced them into long drives which in most cases opens up opportunities for take aways. Unfortunately, FSU offensively played the first half very well with no take aways.
In most cases, it was the pass that hurt us. In that regard, it seemed that the open spaces were created when we were in transition between one defender and another (in our zone defense). Our safeties, guarding against the long pass, were deep and our LBs guarding against short pass were tight. Once the LBs released their assignments to the safeties there was too much territory between the two. I think it was correct to guard against the short pass, for that is where Miami hurt us but if we do that, the safeties will need to play a bit tighter. This obviously opens up the possibility of the long pass, if our safeties get beat. Oh well. That’s why I am not paid to coach.
GO JACKETS!!!! We are so proud of you, your efforts and your success.

Ramble, your comments on the Dawg blog were the only humorous one’s out there. Thanks for the pick me up. The Dawgs are acting like they have never lost before. How soon they forget the O’Leary thumpings. I turned on the TV last Saturday night and a video game broke out. Tech’s defense may need some improvements but they did hold FSU in the second half. Glad to see your team has made the comeback after the Miami loss. Good teams do that. Beat VT and you are on the path to greatness.
Game ball to Nesbitt. No one could take it away from him anyhow.
Good luck on Saturday!

They (FSU) couldn’t stop us. We need pass rushers, the Taylor kid will be tough to contain — time to step up on the “D”.

The key on Sat is containing Tyrod Taylor when he is forced out and starts running. He killed us with that last year, though the imaginary roughing call was the real killer. We have to come up and minimize his gains or force him to throw it. He is not nearly as accurate as Ponder was on Sat. Some hurried throws downfield is open season for Morgan Burnett. Key on offense is to just keep doing what they have been the last three weeks, without the bad pitches and exchanges. Can’t give VT anything, they are too opportunistic. Nesbit needs to NOT heave it downfield and hope Thomas outleaps the defender. That seems to be the strategy for our passing game. Whatever happened to a little screen to Anthony Allen or to hit Dwyer in the flat with a blocker in front?

regarding our d….
why is it that we give cpj a pass because he is having to use chan ‘mediocre’ gailey’s players yet wommack gets no such pass.
wommack had exactly one year with a talented group of d lineman an backers and we did fine.
one could say that gt and ugag both lost a slew of very important players to the nfl. ugag is struggling on o big time. we are struggling big time on d. is that any surprise?
we lost a starting dback to transfer. a very skilled dback no less. And one of our other starters hadnt put on pads for a year.
we are still a very young team especially on d. ESPECIALLY ON D FRONT!
in case nobody has noticed, most of our current recruiting class is devoted to d players…. with cpj’s blessing no less. obviously both cpj and wommack see issues with the current players we now have…. mostly all chan ‘i never coached a qb up’ gailey.
as far as tenuta vs wommack goes. ill take wommack.
-tenuta was not a team player. rumors abound that he fought often with the other coaches on the staff. see fsu to see what happens when a coaching staff does not get along.
-tenuta was not much of a recruiter
-look no further than the current nd team. that team is filled with 5 star players and their d stinks.
-tenuta is a one trick pony. yes he schemed a great blitz. if the blitz didnt work he had no solutions. look no further than the boston college game last year. if the refs do not call holding the blitz is worthless.
-during the tenuta’s bowl prep for his last season here, i read an article quoting some former gt players that played in the nfl. none had nice things to say about tenuta’s coaching of the d backs. they all said that our dbacks under tenuta were sorely undercoached and lacked fundamentals. could it be that wommack is in the position of trying to overcome poor coaching by tenuta? habits…. expecially bad habits are hard to break.
while i am totally sold on wommack, lets give him a chance to get players that HE recruits in place and see how we do before we throw him out with the bathwater.
ultimately cpj will make that judgment. if wommack is still with gt next year than i would guess that there was more than meets the eye wrt to our d.

I hate to be Mr. Negative, but I don’t see us coming close to winning against Va. Tech. Unless, a different (and I mean, VERY different) defense shows up. I don’t think we will score many points against the Hoaxes. Our defense will need the offense to score at LEAST 35 or so points to have a chance. I hope I’m wrong, but our defense, with maybe the exception of D. Morgan pretty much plays patty-cake with the opposing offense. Also, you can see that CPJ is getting noticeably upset with the D on the sidelines. It is only a matter of time before he rips D.W. a new one.

Until GT moves the corners up to line of scrimmage,we will continue to get burned down the field. We are not holding up the receivers at the line. That is our problem on defense…………………….

Adding to GTBacker…the fact that the FSU defense only had maybe 12 plays to review at half time and make adjustments. That wasn’t even enough to see exactly what Tech was doing to them on Offense. In the second half it didn’t appear that FSU had made much if any defensive adjustments. I suppose they slowed them down a little, because Tech dominated the play clock inthe second half like FSU has in the first.. Obviously the Tech Defense had plenty of footage to review and adjust to on defense during half time. Apparently it worked well enough to keep the noles out of the end zone int he second half.

Mr T, it appeared to me that once Tech held FSU to a field goal, the Tech offense made it a point to control the clock, rather than FSU slowing them down. They ran alot more in the middle, rather than outside and passing.

I don’t know what you do about it, but the fact is our offense was just too good Saturday night. We could have scored 75 pts. If we grind it out and run clock, our defense gets to stay rested. Same thing happened in 98 when Joe Hamilton led us to quick scores. During the second half of the FSU game, we were more conservative and just grinded it out from tackle to tackle and ran the clock. FSU still couldn’t stop us, but we were able to keep our defense off the field. This is a good problem to have. I am simply amazed at how Paul Johnson was able to do this since everyone had figured out how to stop his offense. Yeah right !!! LOL. Paul Johnson is one of the best coaches in the Nation and the Jackets will continue to get better and better every year. It’s great to be a Yellow Jacket.

I watched the game again last night on Sun Network, with FSU announcers, and they said over and over about how CPJ always wins the close games. They were impressed….not with Tech’s defense, but they were impressed. How about Nesbitt taking the ball back after the fumble, one of the more amazing plays I have ever seen, given the circumstances.

superDawg, your comment above has some merit. Jackets fans, instead of
crowing and crooning over that tremendous two-in-a-row over FSU, we’ve got to settle down. Reality is about to hit, this Saturday. Virginia Tech is at least twice the team Florida State is. Tyrod, Beamer Ball, and strong D. Maybe the ground will open and swallow them up.

First, I’m not a dreamer. GT has it’s work cut out against VT and a number of continued tough games with VA, Wake and the puppy dawgs.
A lot of work yet to do. You may not want to worry about what we discuss next week because your so called fans have some delusion that Richt is on the verge of deserving to be fired and your lunatic nation somehow thinks UGA should win a Nat’l Champtionship every year. Your approaching 30 years since GT helped give UGA it’s ONLY one after we tied Notre Dame at Grant Field.

Hey Super Dawg, the only reason you don’t like our hot dawgs is because we don’t offer you Dawg fans 4 cases of Natural Light.
