Which FSU team will show up on Saturday

I don’t know if you’ve been following the turmoil in Tallahassee, but wow!
So the question a Tech fan must ask him or herself is this: Will the Jackets play a Seminoles team that’s so distracted players will be wearing their right shoes on their left foot, or will it be a very aggravated and focused team that will try to prove to everyone that their coach is still good.
In reality, FSU is three plays from being 5-0, instead of 2-3.
What would the noise be out of Tallahassee had those plays gone a different way?
——————
As I wrote in the print notebook, Coach Paul Johnson said there will be quite a few changes on the kickoff coverage teams in the wake of their poor performance against MIssissippi State.
————–
Depending upon what happens in practice this week, there may be changes in the two-deep depth chart at linebacker and defensive back. Johnson and Dave Wommack said they want to see how the players perform this week.
———-
An interesting tidbit: Spurrier never won in Starkville until he got to South Carolina. Now, I don’t know how many times his Florida teams played there. If anyone out there knows, feel free to post it on the board.

I just have a bad feeling that the noles will come out motivated to prove a point… They have talent, and they have a reason to be angry. IF the jackets can execute and make thee right blocks on offense and dont get out of position on defense, we should win it. It will be interesting.

It should be an interesting game. I’m a little concern about the defense. Lets hope that was just a bad game for them. The offense appears to be clicking on most of the cylinders. Stay strong Nesbitt.

If our offense can move the ball and score like last week, we should win. FSU will have the occasional turnover and bad play. We must take advantage of that. Penalties will also be big. Our D needs to step up. Especially on their first possession. If we hold them, that will say a lot. Letting them go down and score like Miami did will leave a bad feeling.

1. FSU is also one play away from being 1-4 (remember Jacksonville State).
2. There is no shortage of talent at FSU, and the game will be tough and physical. Their secondary will put more pressure on our receivers than UNC and Ms State and their offense will undoubtedly score on our defense, repeatedly.
3. Ultimately the game will come down to whether the off-the-field drama causes the team to implode or rally. There is no telling…Throw in a blackout too? Holy crap — Who Knows??

Still, I think we are the better team, and an ACC road win will be HUGE.

GO JACKETS.

Doug, according to the College Football Data Warehouse, Spurrier was 2-2 against Miss. St. while at UF. One of the victories was in Orlando (1991). The two times he went to Starkville, he indeed did lose both times (30-6 in 1992 and 47-35 in 2000). Interesting…

A house divided against itself cannot stand…or may be riled up enough to win. I had circled the trip to Tallahassee as the sole loss we’d take this year, but considering the current situation, I don’t know what to expect Saturday night either. I’ll pick Tech….in a squeaker….to make up for those heart-breaking losses to them in the Joe Hamilton-era.

This will be a tough game. I think FSU will play inspired ball. The question is will they be disciplined against the option? We won’t be able to throw like we did against MSU IMHO. Also hope this isn’t a trap game with Va Tech on the horizon.

I just keep thinking about last year, when FSU came into Atlanta with a #16 ranking, and lost. Then again, that miracle play that forced a fumble into the endzone preserved the victory for Tech. Then again, again, Tech was in control of the game before Nesbitt was knocked out.

So basically, I have no idea how this game will turn out. But I think you’d have to be out of your mind to look past this FSU team.

The question is how will fsu react to all the distractions. Will this bring them together or has the team lost it’s way. I wish they were playing Duke this week and us next week. Hard to imagine them losing 3 in a row but with everything that’s going on, it’s possible.

Remember, aginst the Option-Based Spread, the key is to be extremely focused and play assignment-based football. FSU is distracted and disorganized. Tech’s option will run through, over and around that defense. Tech should win by 2-3 TD’s.

It’s going to be a high scoring game. Both of our d-lines are suspect at best. We must get pressure on Ponder to have a chance. Last year Ponder picked us apart with slant routes all day. Our corners must be playing a bump and run coverage to throw the timing off the slant routes. I wouldn’t be suprised either if fsu ran some option plays to keep us spread apart. Bowden doesn’t want to face our offense again. Hopefully we can just control the time of possession and keep the turnovers to a minimum. If we do that, we should win.

This defense appears to be more of a zone defense that is content to let receivers catch the ball and then they try to make the tackles. The problem has been in their poor tackling which is giving up too many big plays. Coach Johnson needs to have some serious discussions with Coach Wommack.

AS THEY SAY IN THE SEC “ITS HARD TO WIN ON THE ROAD”! A win is a win. I’m glad that we got out of there with a win no matter what the stats were since they lost that close one to LSU and were fired up!
No matter what’s going on with Bobby its tough to win in Tallahasse! I don’t that we’ve beat them there in a long, long time. I do know that we have a QB that can will us a win if we can keep him in the game! I guess some of ya’ll know that he can pass now. Now, he just needs to do it in back to back weeks to convince ya’ll huh? The defense is young and growing. They bend but they’ve only broke once so far and that was against Miami. PJ will have these guys ready and they’ll execute and we’ll come out of there 5-1 to get ready for Va Tech.
Sad but true, I hear rumblings coming out of Athens about bad officiating calls in their stadium! When has that ever happen?
Special prayers for the Maloof family as Atlanta and Georgia Tech lost a great man this week. George Maloof put the stamp on “to hell with Georgia” since he holds the record for scoring 4 rushing touchdowns against them on that undefeated 1956 team!

FSU will start the game with a tremendous amount of intensity. I imagine GaTech will as well.

It will come down to execution through the first three quarters. At some point, late in the game, if GaTech has played well, I predict FSU’s players will allow all of the talk, distractions, youthfulness, and lack of team unity to creep into their minds to the point that it impacts their play. If GaTech can stay in the game up to the point that happens, then we win and our season starts to take on a great trajectory.

Its looking like its gonna be “Bobby Bowden night” on Saturday, with the players deciding to “show up” and rally around Bowden.

I got a BAAAADDDD feeling about this one.

Despite the JaxSt & USF performances, this is still the same FSU squad that put 54 on a good BYU team.

I still see the GT-O struggling, and the fact that CPJ keeps adjusting the D means we continue to have D issues.

GT better play a PERFECT game or we could get thumped…bad.

While factions of the home crowd may be wearing black and seeking Bowden’s retirement, the FSU players will be fiercely loyal – count on it. This game may be won or lost in the 1st quarter. Come out, stall the Noles, put up some pts, and the wheels are probably gonna fall off them real, real quick like. Give them a sniff of a game or a lead, anything that gives momentum like a big stop or turnover and it could be a long hard game.

3 plays? What kind of funny math are you using? It would take 3 plays just for them to tie BC and USF. Then you would need at LEAST 2 plays to win those games, and then the one changed play to win the Miami game. By my count they were at LEAST 6 plays away from winning, and that is a VERY vivid stretch of the imagination.

I don’t see how FSU comes out strong. And it isn’t the same as Clemson. Tommy was fired the week before. Bobby is still there. And the situation is a mess with the board of trustree speaking publicly as well as Bobby’s wife. I heard a quote from Bobby on the radio mocking a woman’s question and saying typical woman to her. GT leads the NCAA in average yards per completition. They lead the ACC in passing efficiency. They have a receiver on pace to break 1200 yards for the year. GT is the 4th best in rushing yards for the NCAA. FSU has a great passing game, GT is weak at stopping the pass. I expect this to be a shoot out. The team who settles for FGs in the red zone will lose… Given GT’s kicking problems, FSU wins by 3.

GA Tech Insider

Anyone thinking that it will be a cakewalk going into Tallahassee needs to have their head examined. The Yellow Jackets have been down that road several years in the past and have walked away sorely disappointed. Those games were close, and it appears that Paul Johnson seems to know how to win the close games, so there’s hope for Saturday night, but don’t go counting those winnings just yet, my friends.

For those who don’t know it, due to financial restraints, for the first time ever, GA Tech is taking buses down to FSU rather than Charter flights, so weigh that into the equation when you think about how GA Tech may come out early in the game (fortunately, a Charter has been arranged for their return to Atlanta).

Many of you want to know whether Bobby Bowden has lost his locker room…here’s something to take a look at at judge for yourself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIn17ufE7ZM

If you compare that scene with some of Paul Johnson’s locker room speeches, I think it’s safe to say, there’s a totally different energy level for the boys coming out onto the field. I don’t care how much they try to hoot and holler when they get out in front of the fans; if the Head Football Coach shows about as much passion as kudzu growing on a barn, well, it just has to take its toll on the team.

My hope is that GA Tech goes in ready to play; expecting a Seminole Nation ready to come out with fire and brimstone, and if they can weather the first storm and put a touchdown or two on the board early and stuff them on defense, the wind will come out of the stadium.

FSU doesn’t even know what they’re going to do in a given week, much less anyone else. At this point, I don’t think they can even play inspired football. They’ve looked really bad against some worse teams. GT should come out and lay the wood on them if our defense decides to play some ball. Our offense is finally getting it going. FSU has shown they can’t play any kind of disciplined football. The only thing I’m concerned with is the lack of our defensive effort. I sure hope CPJ and Wommack get things straightened out. If they do, it should be a great game for us. If not it will be another MSU game, maybe 56-34. Sorry I left out Denver Dawg. Didn’t mean to leave you out Denver Dawg. How’s your cousin Goofy doing?

Tech needs to get revenge on these noles for all the luck and bad call games over the past 15 years. It all started in 92. We only play them 4 times a decade now so 2 in a row until 3 more years is a good start. Perfect time to play the sloppy noles. Chaos baby! PJ will take advantage of this.

What kind of question is that. Just like a wormen.

Haha. He’s so Southern. Bobby you should have left 5 years ago. Now you see what it’s like to lose over and over. I hope they lose 8 games. FSU can go to hell with ga.

This is going to be another one like last year. Down to the last play. I just hope that if FSU has to lose, that UGA loses also….It make it so much easier to take.

What do you do to get rid of a stray dawg? Quit feeding him. Tech rules the state, you did for the last seven years, we do this year and yes I am proud of that….it all starts with one win….I know it hurts…..

This game worries me for a number of reasons.

1. Playing at FSU
2. Some Tech players (not coaches) may be looking ahead to VA Tech
3. FSU players remembering how we won last year (and ticked off about it)
4. Win one for the Gipper effect: Gotta believe that the players will rally ’round Bobby. Dadgummit!
5. FSU has the talent: just been inconsistent.

I hope CPJ and the coaches keep the Jackets focused ’cause I’ve got a feeling we’re in for a fight Saturday night.
