Statement Game

Guys, this will be a short one and I apologize in advance. I’ve seen a lot of backroads in our fair city the past two days, but I’m in a much better situation than others.
I hope ‘yall made i through the storms OK (and forgive for saying y’all).
———-
For a year, Miami had to hear about how Georgia Tech took it to the woodshed last year in front of a national television audience.
The Hurricanes players referenced that after returning the favor to the Yellow Jackets last week.
Well, this is the week for Tech to return the favor to North Carolina.
The Jackets did lose to the Tar Heels last year, even though they outgained them in yards. Turnovers, alas, didn’t help.
When asked today if he wanted to beat UNC, coach Paul Johnson said yes, without hesitation.
He then pointed out that he’s sure North Carolina and its fans want to win, as well.
Is this a game that you have had circled on the calendar?

I apologize for the 1 p.m. start time thing. I’ve typed that every day this week and caught it each time…and then I missed that one. It’s a noon start.

Dave Wommack announced on Monday that Julian was going to start. Esteemed competitor Kelly Quinlan at Rivals had that one, it burns me to say.

That makes 2 former Westside Seminoles that started as freshmen in D-1 football the last 3 years. Kareem “Coco’ Jackson, the CB at Alabama is the other.

CPJ promised the offense would be better this year. I assumed he would have added wrinkles and adapted the offense based on how he thought defenses would defend it the 2nd time around. It’s not looking good, and the defense is even worse. I hope we see something good on Saturday.

GT Que: You haven’t figured out yet that Dawgs always do what they can to talk down their rival to make themselves look/feel better?

My whole point on this defense change is that it is more than just switching a LB for a DB, or vice versa. There will be similarities, any defensive plan has schemes or keys to adjust off of, but there is more difference than just plugging Player A in for Player B. The basic reason Tech went to the 4-2-5 was because they felt they had a lot of talent in the safety position that should be utilized. The reason we are switching back is because its not stopping the run or the pass. And the change is more than just putting in JB instead of a safety. Your pass coverage assignments change, your gap filling responsibilities are different, etc. Yes in certain play calls, it will look more like a 4-2-5 set but it is still at heart a different concept. But then again, so does the nickel package on expected 3rd and long pass plays. When a team runs a 4-3-4 and decides to drop a lineman into coverage, the base defense doesn’t suddenly become a 3-4-4 just because of the way they attack that one play anymore than they become a 4-2-5 defense because they add a defensive back in a pass situtation.

DawginLex and superDawg: Thanks for the respectful, intelligent posts. I suspect that you are REALLY UGA Grads like most of my friends who actually graduated, unlike other trash-talking Dawg Wannabe’s who come out of the woodwork especially when Tech loses such as WHAT A JOKE!!!!!! and SAINT SIMONS [the same poster who is also a poser]. Good luck Saturday. I pull for Georgia to win except when they play Tech. It makes The Big Game and The Rivalry much more significant.

For the dawgs relishing the fact that Tech is unranked: [1] Tech is #26 & 27, [2] the polls don’t mean too much right now, and [3] if Tech beats UNC, they will be ranked.

NC has always had talent, look at the NFL rosters, but Butch Davis has won where? Winning is an attitude and a system, not talent. Thumbs up to Miami! Ten days to get ready and they should beat anybody. With NC’S truimphed up record, who have they beat? First ACC game! Down 10 to 0 to UCONN and barely came back to win with ALL THAT TALENT! History is important and its not on NC side. Two wins against GT and both were at home. 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms tomorrow. I hope they weren’t planning on passing! Let’s see, with all that speed and talent, I don’t think they have a running game. Best of all, we have to wait until tomorrow at noon, because games aren’t won or lost in the blog! GO JACKETS UNTIL I DIE! I have hats older than some of YA’LL!

Well I guess North Carolina forgot how to stop our high school offense. Over 400 yds total offense and 42 minutes of ball control. Unheard of !!! Just goes to show you Never-Ever count out Paul Johnson’s team. Once VT completes the demolishing of Miami today and we destroy VT, we will once again be in the drivers seat. Can’t say the same for the dogs.
