Day 10 in the books, in its entirety

Alright, first off I hope that I’ve made some progress in efforts to clean up the blog a bit. I don’t mind a bit of trash talking, but it was devolving into something that was neither entertaining nor useful. I realize the few bad apples thing….

Now, on to football.

Wait, I lied. On to Sports Illustrated. I don’t know who was on the cover of yours this week, but mine featured Ole Miss as the cover story for the College Football Preview section. SI likes to do regional coverages, but I’m not sure what Ole Miss has to do with Atlanta.

Anyway, it ranks Georgia Tech 12th and predicts the Jackets to to go 9-3, 6-2. It predicts Virginia Tech to defeat FSU for the ACC championship. Of course this was written before Darren Evans was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL.

Other ACC teams in SI’s top 20: Virginia Tech (5), FSU (16) and North Carolina (20).

On to Wednesday’s wrap up.  The team finished with an 11-on-11 drill that didn’t seem as crisp as others. The offensive line still seems to be searching for its mojo when it comes to pass protection. However, there were several nice plays made iby either side in other drills, some of which I documented in the notebook that my friends in digital have already posted on ajc.com, so please sneak a peek-a-loo.

Practices will be closed starting Monday, so I won’t be able to tell you the good and bad from each day. However, I’m sure Coach Johnson will fill us in, and his opinion carries a little more weight than mine.

—————————

Apparently there’s a bit of a misconception that the Clemson game on Thursday, Sept. 10 has been sold out. It has not. There are seats available.

—————————

In basketball news, Rivals just ranked Tech’s class as the fourth-best in the country, for what it’s worth.

—————————

In tennis, sophomore Kevin King defeated the No. 1 juniors player in the country, Alexander Domijan, 6-7 (0), 6-4, 7-6 (2) in the fourth round of the USTA National Championships Wednesday in Kalamazoo, Mich.

I’m pretty good at Wii tennis, but that’s about it.

—————————

SI’s theme is teams that can crash the BCS party. Tell me who you think will crash the ACC party this year, and why? It’s no secret that Virginia Tech has ruled the roost the past few years. Is this the year that N.C. State, led by QB Russell Wilson, cracks the title game? What about Dabo and Clemson? Will Tech win it?

Ole Miss is on the cover because they are in the SEC and expected to be giant killers this year. Florida is already on top. LSU might warrant the cover.
Here in the Southwest Region the cover has the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Why not Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, etc? The Cowboys are fresh, like
Ole Miss.
GT would do as much for circulation as Ole Miss, or more. Also, GT
is somewhat fresh.
The Big 12 and SEC are the real power conferences, some believe.
That’s the way things are, right?

I like how the GT fans overwhelmingly say that they are the favorite to win the Coastal now that VT’s Evans is gone for the season. Don’t forget VT’s RB position is also stacked. Keep that overconfidence coming. The more the better…

Doug really?

“Anyway, it ranks Georgia Tech 12th and predicts the Jackets to to go 9-3, 6-2. It predicts Virginia Tech to defeat FSU for the ACC championship. Of course this was written before Darren Evans was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL. ”

What does Darren Evans tearing his ACL have anything to do with the rankings. We have more than one running back. Some of you GT fans kill me cheering that Evans got hurt. That’s absurd. Plus, our running game isn’t the only thing to watch out for this season either. If GT thinks VT will be a cakewalk you are delusional.

Staff fan now…. when Stinger, M, god and greyhound, dawghater, Ramble On, Trade School Junkie and yellow fuzz and Saint Simons stay off Ga blogs I’ll get off this blog. Those guys give all tech fans a bad name. One win in 8 years is not a lot to brag about especially after a 38 to 3 shelling in a nationally televised bowl game. I know it is a big deal for Tech to beat Ga. but the ensuing insults can’t go unanswered. Have a work with those punks if you will please.

Clemson’s a WHITE-OUT, tell two friends to tell two friends. And sell it out.
Keep up the good work Doug.

Remember, go Jackets and to hell with Georgia.

VTHokie- You must be new here. That is a UGA fan posing as a GT fan that “celebrated” the injury to Evans.

All I know is CPJ is the MAN for eviscerating two reviled streaks that Gailey could do nothing about: UGA and FSU. And he will take care of another bad streak this year: UVA. He is doing a lot of cleanup work right now.

Don’t be too hard on Reality Czech. He is the son of a Tech grad. He attended Embry-Riddle Aero Univ but decided to become a dog fan during the lean years after Dodd. If the current trend continues as planned, he’ll probably be back as a Tech fan…he likes winners.

h3llwith….If you think you got a pair because you can spew incoherant blather behind a pen name then it is no wonder your perception of reality is so distorted. UGA ownes Tech. CPJ = Chan Gailey + 1 win ove UGA. Shows you how important UGA is to Tech’s existance and self esteem. Your payback beatdown is coming and then you can crawl back in the hole you’ve been in for the last 7 years. Your 2009 team has no OL and no DL and when you lose to VT, Fla State, Vandy and UGA. I will be here to remind you so keep on spewing.

I can tell by your post that you not only didn’t go to Tech but most likely any college.

Hey Reality Check I think it’s time you got one. I’m currently at Tech. Chan Gailey is gone. So far you haven’t beaten Johnson. And last time I checked we have one of the best depths at both sides of the line in the ACC. Your predictions mean nothing to me. The 7 years before 2008 don’t matter anymore mostly because um… WE BEAT YOU LAST YEAR!!!! Come back to that hick.

Remember kids, GO JACKETS AND TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!!!!!!!!

boys will be boys. And men will step up and take the challenge. Lets face it, GT doesn’t have the facility or the fan base of UGA but they stepped up and got it done last year under a new and bright young coach and will continue to step up. You notice the theme of coach johnson? He wants to make men out of boys and no matter the score, MAN UP! 2009 might not live up the hype but after he’s done molding the Nesbitt, Dwyer class, 2010 could be very special.
PS: The devil lives down in Georgia and he wears black and red.
