Q&A with Dwyer

Tim Tebow at Florida, Colt McCoy at Texas, Sam Bradford at Oklahoma and … Jonathan Dwyer at Georgia Tech.

The first three players are on most folk’s watch lists for the Heisman Trophy. Dwyer has popped up on some lists as a darkhorse candidate.

I got to sit down with Dwyer, last season’s ACC player of the year, for a few minutes last week for an abbreviated version of the Q&A’s we’ve been running this summer.

AJC: Which running backs do you like to watch?

JD: Growing up, as a kid, Walter Payton. But now, in this new era, Adrian Peterson of the Vikings and LaDainian Tomlinson.

AJC: What about those guys do you like watching?

JD: Adrian Peterson has a lot of style like Walter Payton. He’s powerful and once he touches the ball he’s going full speed at you the whole time. If youre in his way he’s going to run you over. If he can’t run you over he’s going to run around you and make somebody make a big play.

AJC: You are being mentioned as potential Heisman candidate this year. There are three quarterbacks that are everyone’s favorite right now. Have you practiced the Heisman pose in the mirror?

JD: No. Maybe as little kid growing up. I’ve never even thought about it. Just taking it slow and enjoying college and enjoying hanging out with these guys and having fun with them.

AJC: I don’t know if you look at ajc.com, I hope you do. We had a story that Phil Steele left Tech out of the top 25 all together, which surprised me considering the number of starters you have coming back. Why do you think that is?

JD: Everybody thinks that the offense isn’t going to work now because everybody’s been preparing for it. But I mean you still have to respect us like any other team. Each and every week anybody can have a good week.

That’s probably why. But we don’t keep contact with all that ranking stuff. I know coach Johnson definitely doesn’t. I think there’s time for us to look at and use motivation for the season.

AJC: Who hits hardest on y’all’s defense?

JD: It’s a tie between a lot of guys. This crew can lay the wood on anybody.

Defensive line, it’s Derrick Morgan.

Linebackers. A bunch of people, from gladiator, Brad Jefferson, Cedric Griffin, AT Barnes and Sylvester.

Secondary, Burnett, Reece and Tarrant.

Who knows what these young guys can do once the season and games start up.

AJC: In the ACC?

JD: Who is the hardest hitter I ever had in the ACC. I don’t know.

My freshman year it would probably be Chris Long. Besides him I would say some guys from Clemson.

AJC: What’s the dumbest question you’ve been asked by a reporter? And you can’t include any of these.

JD: Probably from high school, I guess what school I would go to, constantly over and over, repeatedly.

Hey OGAGRAD02 that’s a new low!! What does Race and ethnic groups have to do with it? It’s football. “You must really be hurting inside to pick a person in such a manner. It’s football Plain and Simple.
Dwyer is an excellent running back. Caleb King hasn’t proven himself yet, but appear to be good as well. “It’s about football you idiot!”

Good write-up on an average running back. Aint no way GT gets a heisman. They don’t know how to recruit real ballplayers like the big boys! Come up to Athens and have a gander at our team and you will see some grade A football talent.

Dwyer will have an average season, GT will win they’re typical 7 to 8 games, UGA will KILL the nerds this year.

One win in 7 aint good you nerds. When will you learn that GT can’t compete?!
Dwyer is a smart kid, but he can’t play ball. We recruit ballplayers guys, that’s what it takes to win!!!

GOOOO DAWGS! SIC EM! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!

JD is a second rate back. He is not NFL material. Any legitimate scout will tell you that. He’s a one trick pony in a gimmick system that does not translate to the NFL. Book it.

….and we threw for 500 yds on you clowns. What’s your point? BTW, Moreno was a mis 1st round pick. $500 says Dwyer is not drafted that high. Moreno will also be the starting RB in Denver and rush for over 1200 yds. BOOK IT! All UGA RB’s in the NFL excell. Get your facts straight.

Hey coach BoBo,

your little link says nothing about “count to 3″ Reggie Ball playing for the Lions, unless you count wearing a Lions replica shirt while peddling ice cream. What a “douchbag”.

Dwyer will break Eddie Lee Ivory’s record 356 yds. against UGA this year. That game alone will be more yards rushing than any running back for the season at UGA. Tech 56 UGA 17 (Paul Johnson for President)

Dwyer was a 5 star back in High School. Just like Moreno and just like king. He was all acc player of the year last year. I wouldn’t really call that second rate. Plus he put up 144 yards and 2 TD’s against your team dumbass. Still second rate?

“Dwyer is a smart kid but can’t play football”?!?!

Are you serious with that comment. He was a 5 star back outta high school and put up 144 yards and 2 TD’s vs your team. He was all ACC and player of the year. Isn’t it kind of stupid to say he “can’t play football”?!

I get it…you hate tech…but at least recognize talent…

Damn yall are so far up the Dawgs asses you can’t see clearly anymore….Wake up! There is other talent out there. There are other teams besides your own. Sheesh!

Piss Boy,

Reggie is a NFL player. Your Quincey and Greene are the one’s wishing to have been good enough to make it.

But Reggie still can’t count to 4. Guess that’s why they moved him to WR.

By the way, how was Reggie able to pass that challenging calculus curriculum at tech if he can’t get past 4, quatro or whatever? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

To Coach BooBoo

I really didn’t think you wanted to go the “NFL” route, but since you did, thought I’d go ahead and totally discredit you.

“The following are the elite nine (number of players in the league): Miami (50), Ohio State (48), Georgia (47), Florida State (44), Michigan (43), Tennessee (40), Notre Dame (39), Florida (38) and LSU (35). These Elite Nine football programs account for 20% of the entire NFL roster. In the Elite Nine, affiliation includes four SEC teams, two Big Ten, two ACC and one Independent. The SEC’s big four (Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, LSU) have more players in the NFL (160) than the rest of the eight conference members combined (153).”

You can have your Reggie Ball, but just how in the world did they exclude the remaining tech NFL players from this article? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Hey Grinch

Got it dude. All UGA players are amazingly gifted and belong in the NFL. All Tech players (even the one’s that have already made it) should not be in the NFL. UGA is the greatest school in history and all other schools especially tech should be burned to the ground. UGA and the SEC are God. Mark Richt is Jesus.

Feel better? Is this what you come to the Tech blog for? Vindication? Should we… or do you think we will ever agree with you? Or do you just like to argue for the sake of it? I could go over to the Dawg Blog and have a pissing match daily like you do here but I choose not to. Know why? Because that is their favorite team. Everyone’s favorite team can do no wrong. So that arguement would go nowhere. Do you undertand what I am saying? Your arguements here are pointless since no one is going to agree with you. So what you are doing??…Why are you obssesed with reading about and commenting on Georgia Tech every day of your life? We get it…you love the Dawgs and they are the best in the world. They always win the National Championship in your eyes. What are we supposed to do now that we know how much you like your team and how they are better than everyone else?

Reggie Ball may be at WR for the Lions, but he is the best QB on the Lions team. Poor Calvin just can’t get a good QB. He would be the best reciever to ever play the game if he played with a good QB.
