Dis and dat

A few tidbits to tide you over:

I just went and looked at the new scoreboard and new ISP suite at Bobby Dodd.

The scoreboard appears to have the main screen up. The two screens on the side and the banner screens that will go around the stadium are still being worked on.

The giant suite on the opposite side of the stadium is being worked on as well. It hasn’t been closed in yet, but the overhang will make for a nice place to watch the game.

I will be doing some more Q&As this week with a few players, Austin Barrick for one.

For the Tech fans, what questions would you like me to ask the football players this week.

With football season around the corner —  with all the news that will follow the start of the first practice —you can follow me on twitter @ajcgatech

Also, the Albany Times-Union reported Sunday that Tech will play Siena in men’s hoops this season, as the opener of a three-game agreement. So, Paul Hewitt and Brad Sheehan will get to return to their stomping grounds.

Hey Doug,

As far as starting A backs are concerned do you think it will be Allen and Jones with Marcus Wright as the back up?

Chamblee, I think it’s too early to tell. Jones’ injury may keep him from practicing in August, so you could see Wright and Allen potentially start the first game against Jacksonville State, with Jones coming back for Clemson.
Assuming everyone is healthy, I would guess that Jones will see more snaps than the other two, who will likely split time. Of course, there are other A-backs on the roster as well. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in August.

Doug, ask Austin if his days of trying to juke corners instead of plowing them over for the 1st down are behind him. ;-)

“Hey Doug,

Marcus Wright…..and Embry Peeples and Lucas Cox. Between A and B, there will be a strong 7 man rotation. Remember, Jonathan Dwyer will take snaps at A-back also. Back-ups might hardly be backups in this offense. It’ll just be who has the freshest legs.

The screen hasn’t moved, it just got bigger. And the ribbon screens go in along the sidline balconies, right? I didn’t know there was a new suite going in, though. Good factoid.

I second the motion to et in-depth with A-backs (things like more vicious blocking, better recieving, etc.) But I’d also like to read something about the progress (if any) with special teams. Maybe that should come from Coach. And though it may be irrelevant this early in the season, I’d like to hear his rumored schpeel on the virtues of relaxed bowl preparation. Last year it was rumored that he viewed the Peach Bowl as a gift in the sense that the team shouldn’t have to practice as hard for it. I’d love to hear CPJ tell us why that was a good idea and whether that has changed. It might be the one question mark I got from him as our new head coach.

Buzzfan, I asked, and he gave a pretty funny story. Look for it later this week.

PB, I am directionally challenged (thank god for TomTom). The screen is in the same spot it’s always been. The big suite is on the opposite side, close to CPJ’s office.

Whiskey, I don’t believe there was any relaxed bowl preparation last year. They spent a lot of time working on the passing game, which showed in the game’s first two series. They had some bad luck which affected the outcome. Yes, the score ended up one-sided. But, if Thomas had caught that touchdown pass, and LSU started playing from behind, while also having to worry about Tech going deep again, who knows what would have happened?
That, and LSU’s defensive line featured four dudes that will likely all play in the National Football League. I would just say play pro, play professionally, or play in the NFL, but I think there’s a law now that every announcer has to say “National Football League” every time they refer to the organization. It’s maddening.

Doug,

Thanks for the quick response. I’d love to see an A back feature story in the future if possible. Seems like a logjam at running back. Can’t wait to see how it all works out. Especially if they move Dwyer to A back in some plays. Everytime they have done that it leads to some crazy long run.

Thanks, Doug. ‘Twas quite the disoncerting rumor back then when I heard it. Sorry about the abbreviation thing. Any chance the NFL will reciprocate by referring to all media outlets by their full names instead of slang or acronyms? Fun way to haze the NFL’s PR interns..”Hey Joe, press release at noon tomorrow. Call up MSNBC, ESPN, the AJC, etc. and remember not to use acronyms!”

Can we do like the DAWGLOG and talk about our favorite bumper stickers, where to eat, and 13 yr. olds making commitments? I must be sorry because the D&D turny is over, the STAR WARS weekend is over, and I am gay. The UGA fans are so pissed I come back at them with logic on their blog. Uga hates Tech fans on their blogs, but like I told them, our UGA Grad Blog guy will not get on the Blog often enough for me to stay away from talking football. UGA MAN get in the Game and get to blogging.

Ask the players what they think our record will be this year! It would be interesting to see if any of them say anything short of 14 – 0 ! (ACC and National Champs)

Please remove the above comments by “pi$$onadawg” and “huh?”. We actually have a chance of keeping this blog clean for a change. Let’s keep out the riff raff and focus on tech talk.

Thanks!

I’d like to see an interview with the QB coach on how he thinks Josh has progressed in the passing game and how much the air is going to be integrated into the game next season. That’s my number one concern for the offense.

Doug, could you ask either the players or CPJ how much more additional implementations to the offense have been made and how the execution is progressing?

Going into the bowl game we were hearing about the shoot-gun being used some.

NCAA Football National Championships won by Georgia colleges since UGA last won in 1985:

2007 Valdosta State
2004 Valdosta State
2000 Georgia Southern
1999 Georgia Southern
1990 Georgia Tech
1990 Georgia Southern
1989 Georgia Southern
1986 Georgia Southern
1985 Georgia Southern
1985 West Georgia

Thats 10, in case you can’t count. So again, why do you say the UGA wins National Championships?

Once again, the ignorant UGA fan has gotten loose & started babbling nonsense. Tech CANNOT go to the Humanitarian Bowl, the ACC dropped the tie-in. For the 29th year in a row, UGA will win the National Championship. Stop me if you’ve heard this before.
Doug: What is the possibility of Tech wearing retro uniforms like they did against UVA a few years ago?

Why not list the scores from the last 8 years of the UGA – vs- Tech game. Or, you could list the scores of the two teams in their bowl game for the last 4 years.

Hey Dave

In case you don’t know, Tech won 1 game versus UGA and lost 7. They are 0 for 4 in their last 4 bowls. Pitiful that you gloat over one itty bitty win in that time frame, where you came from behind and won game by 3 itty bitty points. You remind me of South Carolina when they won. Funny, I don’t hear as much from them anymore.

Questions for the players — for O-linemen, which DE and which DT has given you the biggest challenge this spring/summer? How do they compare to last year’s D-linemen? Questions for the D-linemen, excluding yourself, which of your fellow D-linemen will have the biggest impact? For A-backs, how many more passes are going to A-backs this summer vs last? What is the emphasis of blocking drills vs receiving drills? 50/50, 60/40?, etc? Has Nesbitt’s timing on passes improved in practices this year? Approximate completition percentage, 50%, 60%?

EE ‘93…maybe YOU should be the one to stand in front of a 250+ pound football player and call him out. And then if you wold post the video here…

Just messin’ with ya. I agree. But to be honest, this team needs to have the mentality that the season rests on EVERY phase of the game. They should all be ready to take the responsibility for everything and work harder than….uh….Tim Tebow, I guess.
