AMC and work to be done

The big news out of Tech’s quarterly budget meeting was the large donation made by a yet-to-be named family to help pay to improve the seating at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

The donation is designed to pay for 1/3 of the cost, which is expected to be at least $30 million. The donation won’t exceed $15 million. The name of the donor will be made public later this year, after the Board of Regents meets.

It was no surprise that Tech’s budget for the 2010 fiscal year is slightly smaller than the budget for 2009. Their endowment took a straight jab to the chin, and ticket sales didn’t quite meet what was budgeted, which was described as aggressive. Who would have predicted when that budget was put together in 2008 that the economy was going to go into the tank and that numerous colleges around the country would be in the red this year?

During the board meeting the 2010 budget was described as being a bit more conservative than the previous year’s, despite the decision to hire Aspire and it’s staff of 20 to take over season ticket sales for football and basketball.

So, those were some of the highlights from the meeting.

It’ll be interesting to see what will come of the seating plan for AMC. Radakovich did say they have no plans to try and turn it into yet another concert venue. It seems it will continue to be mostly for men’s and women’s basketball, graduations, and student meetings. The project is still at least two years away from starting, possibly three.

Lastly, the board members expressed a lot of pride in all of the firsts accomplished by many of Tech’s sports teams during the year. I hope to get a copy of the document and post it here for yall to peruse.

I just want to point out that the bin Ladens are an extremely wealthy Saudi family. They disowned Osama (the terrorist) years ago.

Who would’ve predicted that the economy would go in the tank? My company started planning for this recession, which we saw as inevitable, in August 2007.

But, he was referring to Osama...

Refreshing to go to a school where alumni and friends give back so generously. I can’t think of anything at Tech that isn’t named for someone that graciously gave back from their prodigious earnings to better their alma mater. I know this is the norm for a lot of important schools, but I think here in Georgia our two prominent schools have the rest of the country beat on alumni generosity. It’s just a tradition that needs to keep growing. Those of us still attending Tech need to look forward to the day when our name can be written above the door to a new lab or stadium seating area (or in my case a huge bronzed statue of Paul Johnson screaming at Embry Peeples…perfect).

Point conceded. I realy wish they did. Although I’m not sure…alumni aren’t exactly the loudest fans in our stadium. We need to grab a larger chunk of the unafilliated Atlanta market, IMO. But I’ll let D-Rad and friends do their thing. I just care about the team winning and being there myself.

I love Athens because they are not as uptight as Atlanta people. In Athens you are free to be yourself; I remember when I was hanging out at Boar’s Head one night and my boyfriend was giving me a HJ under the table, because I was used to having to hide my lifestyle like in Atlanta. But then other Athens partiers noticed what was going on and they convinced me to let it all hang out, and some even joined in. Athens is the place for free spirits like me!!!

Tech to do list:
1. Protect students from robbers
2. Continue to pay Paul Johnson a good salary. He is the only person worth a damn.
3. Beat UGA more than 2 years in a row. Then you stingers can talk smack.

UGA fan to do list:

1) Go to Tech Blog daily since still angry about last November’s loss
2) Call Tech fans nerds
3) Talk a lot of trash on a blog but be very nice and respectful in person (to scared to show true anger and hate in public)
4) Buy a “Willie Martinez Teaches Fundamental Tackling” shirt for this season.
4) Tan at the same salon as coach richt
5) Hate Hate Hate…. anyone that’s not UGA
6) Get on a knee while others dance

Athens is the best place to be. Atlanta sucks. Athens is located in the middle of nowhere, which is the best place to listen to songs about UGA’s storied history. We won a national championship one time!!! Georgia Tech can’t say that. They have never won a national championship because they are nerds…Athens bars are awesome, and they play Dave Matthews all the time, and he is also awesome!!!

superDawg, are you REALLY that stupid?! OF COURSE we’re going to speak up when we win! THAT’S what happens when ANY team wins! Bandwagon fans?! Coming from a leg humper fan?! Wait until the end of Sept. and see how many uga flags are flying from cars?! If uga starts the season off with, no less than two losses, the number of identifiable pup fans will drop by half and many of you pup bloggers will disappear until the hiney lickers win again! I’m here win or lose….and i am not alone! GO TECH!!!

“superDawg” you might be deluding yourself without knowing it if you think Athens has no nerds. Just like GT has its fair share of redneck fans, UGA has PLENTY of nerds that attend both the school and your football games. Yall are aware you still have a marching band, right? I also have currently hired an engineering intern from UGA…nerdy as can be, sir. It’s a big school. There’s plenty of the good AND the embarrassing.

And to challenge yourself and make you a classier fan of your school (if you went there) try responding without mentioning Tech at all. There’s plenty of ways to cheer for yoru own team without wasting the energy trying to tear down the perception of another team in any way but what is purely tradition. And the tradition, as I hope your aware, is for you and your team to say “to hell with Tech” on THE DAY YOU PLAY US…they’re not playing today, so try to calm down and focus on your own team. Both programs are respectable, but not in the title hunt this year…so the anger is unwarranted and looks silly.

Dear Tech and UGA Douchebags, my apologies. I echo your thoughts! I get sucked into the fodder as a guilty pleasure. “Lets be honest”, I’d imagine you mean decade as opposed to century and THAT decade is over! TECH is on the rise (Not just because of the victory over the mutts) and you guys seem to realize it! Why else would you be trolling Tech blogs? Tech is going to be a tough opponent for the next few years….at least, you’ll be able to look back to ‘the good ole days’ and cry the famous bulldog battle cry, “Wait til next year”! GO TECH!!!
