We’ve discussed how tough Tech’s schedule is, and will do so again. But which of these games will you plan on making must-see TV and why?
Alabama-Virginia Tech should be better than last year’s blowout in the dome. TCU-Virginia could provide a good glimpse of whether Groh has any chance of keeping his job after this season.
In other news,
Gani Lawal’s father says his son has not made up his mind about the NBA. I’ve been trying to reach Gani by phone but haven’t been successful. I hope to reach him soon.
Jerome Miller will lead several track and field athletes to the NCAA next week. Miller has a chance win a national title in the high jump. Look for more on him next week. He’s a very interesting dude.

We have the SEC powerhouses of Miss St and Vandy, along with Jax St. But in all seriousness, what makes our schedule tough this year is the fact that we don’t have an off week until the week before the UGA game. Couple that with some tough back to back conference match ups like Clemson (ACC Rival), Miami, UNC (definitely on the rise under Butch Davis) and FSU, VT, it makes for a pretty tough schedule. I’m sure some UGA fans are going to show their ignorance when it comes to college football and chime in on how the SEC is so tough compared to the ACC, so go ahead and prove me wrong.

Kudos to the Dawgs. They actually open up outside of the state for the first time I can remember against a real opponent. Usually it’s New Mexico St. or Northwestern Alabama Tech so they can get all of the Reverend’s harsh punishments out of the way. I’m sure Vince the Prince wasn’t thinking Okie State would be this good when he scheduled them. UGag fans already building in the excuses when Joe “sucks” Cox hits his JT3 stride amd they get blown out in Stillwater. Can’t wait.
I look forward to Bama and VT. Should be a low-scoring game, and VT’s special teams may decide it. NC State should have a chance to show if their final push last year was the real deal. Maryland could blow out Cal or get blown out. Neither would surprise me. Wake had better come ready to play against Baylor, that Sophomore QB is a player.

TCU will bust Va. chops. They should fire Groh or whoever schedules these opening games for Virgina. USC now TCU. One was a national powerhouse and the other is a wanna be that will use Va. as a springboard to bigger and better things. One of the traits of ex pro coaches is not being attuned to scheduling patsies that look good but are not, like Ok State. I wonder if it is because they are handed the schedule in the NFL no power over it. That no control attitude works well in the NFL because they really don’t have control, but in college it makes you look like a Gailey or a space cadet. TCU looks like a patsy but are one of the best teams in the country. The loss will look worse than it really is and will hurt the image of the ACC even more. .

Jackets21 UGA opened up at Clemson in ‘03 but that was a piss ant ACC team so you may have a point. UGA likes to open up with a shake down game and end the regular season with a gimme ACC team before going to a big bowl.
As compared to other teams that like to open with a decent team and then nose dive. I think I’ll take conference championships and big bowl payouts vs blowing it all early in the season.

Neither Clemson, Miami, nor NC have a strong football team. Nice try claiming the “rivalry” reason to try and explain away the whipping Insects will put on them to make it seem GT is the latest powerhouse on the street. Even FSU has sucked in recent years. In reality the Insects should easily be undefeated by the time they play UGA. No rest until the week before that game? Wahh. Been there done that. Considering the GT schedule up to that point is full of Div III or Div III-like programs due to down years or typically weak by history, the players should be idling due to no competition.

I can’t wait until “UGAG” comes to Bobby Dodd Stadium this year. The highlight of my season ticket will be beating “UGAG” two years in a row. Remember one name “Rough Neck Nation” PAUL JOHNSON. He doesn’t even know what it is like to lose to “UGAG”. By the way, I am sure that his coaching staff doesn’t have any “UGAG” film right. By the time we get finished scoring on you this year you will surely fire Martinez. I am sad to inform you that you will not be barking in the stands at Bobby Dodd stadium this year. It might be a good idea to take that Saturday and go visit a flea market or a truck stop. Maybe you should wash you rebel flag or something while we rush for 400 yards on you. Go Jackets! And if the past *does* matter, try this on for size: 8 in a row, longest streak in the series history. Tech over Georgia.

Why would the result of the GT-UGA game be any different this year? GT @ home, another year of PJs system under their belts, lose 3 D-Linemen vs. UGA who lost at home last year, lost 2 1st round offensive skill players and most consistent receiver, and still has Willie. Oh, I forgot that Sturdivant and Owens make up for all that and then some with their “on-field leadership”.

Maybe I’m alone in this, but I take CPJ’s approach when it comes to talking to Dawgs about the rivalry win: “Act like ya been there before and plan on comin’ back” So don’t pay them any mind. That game’s all the way in November (though bragging rights ARE year-round).
Where should all our attention be right now? VT. We need to steal our lunch back from them this year and then make it a point to romp on them annually. They get the press and the rankings, and they have earned it with consistency of play. Tough as nails. We need GT to rise, so our boys need to earn it, and our fans need to live and breath pounding them into the ground. Hate on a turkey instead!

SC – NCST
Baylor – Wake
Maryland – Cal
Stan – Wake
Nebraska – VaTech
FSU – BYU
GT in 2009 …
Schedule setup is TOUGH, complemented by no off-week until 3rd week in Nov.
With ALL 11 offensive starters (from FSU and beyond in 2008) returning, along with A. Allen (from Louisville), incoming WR Stephen Hill, and overall depth at skill positions on O — a healthy squad will only get better & better at running PJ’s offense, and present serious problems for opposing D’s.
I’m betting that Tech’s D will be better in 2009 than in 2008. Their best D-lineman is back. The replacements for the 3 departures are better than most people realize, and there’s an incoming freshman or two that will surprise if they get redshirted.
So physical health of the team is my main concern, b/c PJ is instilling great mental strength & aptitude that should handle the schedule fine.
