This will be a short blog, but hopefully will generate a lot of comments.
It’s June, so things are winding down. The only thing left in the 2008-09 college season for Georgia Tech is track and field, which has a few chances to win individual titles.
There have been several notable achievements by Tech’s teams: beating Georgia in football, winning a game in the ACC men’s basketball tournament, the softball team winning a regional, etc, just to name a few.
What are your favorite memories from this past year. Let’s go ahead and assume beating Georgia is at top of everyone’s list.
What was your favorite moment and why was it your favorite moment?

If Danny Hall is going to call out Tech fans for not showing up for games, then he needs to have his team ready to win and not choke like usual. You can’t leave a tired pitcher in to give up nine runs in one inning and give your team no chance to win. You can’t start a freshman who has hardly played in the infield and leave him in to commit three errors and give your team no chance to win. You can’t hire assistants with no experience and expect your team to win even if they are your golf buddy. The volleyball coach and softball coach were let go right after their seasons so let’s see if D Rad cares about baseball too. He was at Chokefest ‘09 last night so we may have a change this week.

Great season as usual, picked Top 10, get to playoffs in our “own” home field and Danny Hall does the usual choke game. As long as Hall is there, expect the same every season. I thought Gailey was intimadated by UGA, but Hall really gets the award in playoffs–whomever the team may be–Southern Miss?

I love how this went from a, “what is your favorite Tech sports moment” blog to a, “FIRE DANNY HALL!!!” blog…While I share in the frustration with Tech baseball, I would say my favorite Tech sports moment of the past year would be the victory over Clemson. Although worth noting would be Amanda McDowell who won her second national title (this time in doubles) for the Tech Women’s Tennis Team. Certainly not a mainstream sport, but a nice accomplishment for the young lady.

How about them YELLER JACKETS! Just another year of busting. Tech thinks they are so awesome in baseball and yet they can’t even make it to Omaha once every ten years. Danny Hall is a nobody in coaching. He makes his living off beating ACC teams and that’s it. I can’t wait to see Tech #3 preseason next year and fall short in the regional. How about winning a softball regional and and an ACC tournament basketball game as “achievements”. Here’s another one- Won 3 conference basketball games and coached kept his job because Derrick Favors is coming for 1 year. Wow who gives a flip. Tech athletics are average at best and always will be. Gotta go get my plane ticket for the Florida series. GO GOLDEN EAGLES!

Enter your comments here Danny Hall isn’t going anywhere. He is the winningest coach Tech has ever had. He is a great recruiter and a very good regular season coach. That said his teams do underperform in the playoffs. Tech baseball has always been fun and exciting during his tenure. As far as fans not showing up, well unfortunately that’s Tech fans. Football has the same problem, empty seats. Don’t know what the solution is.

The victory over FSU in football was a good one. The win over Miami was right up there as well with the way the team played. I also think the softball team had an excellent season.

The ABSOLUTELY best thing was going to a Tech football game and knowing that we had a REAL college football coach…knowing that thanks to God and Greyhound that chan gomer gailey, who had destroyed Tech football, was gone forever.
Look around at Tech football…the excitement…the optimism…the can-do attitute. It’s fantastic.
Any Tech fan that ever defended or supported chan gomer gailey in ANY way contributed to the downfall of Tech football…you know who you are and you SUCK to the nth degree.
Thank God we have Paul Johnson and Thank God and Greyhound that we are rid of chan gomer gailey FOREVER. HALLLEEEEEEDAMLOOOOYAH!!

As a fan that spent the entire weekend at Russ Chandler I have to agree with Danny Hall for the most part. There were quite a few conversations going on around the stadium about the loyalty of Tech fans and even a UGA friend that came with me made a snide comment about how few fans we had at the game.
I am not going to say that we lost the game because we had a poor fan base showing. But it is a little sad when there are just as many Georgia State and Southern Miss fans at your home stadium. Shouldn’t college sports run a little deeper than “we will support you when you stop choking?” If you want to cheer for a team just because they are winning then feel free to go jump on a band wagon i suppose. Butt true passion is evident through wins and losses.

I am sick of all the crap and praise that Danny gets for being a good coach. He is a good recruiter and that is it. We get top prospects every year and we do nothing with that talent. They aren’t developed and coached to perform the way they should when it matters. And to top it off sometimes they aren’t even given the chance to win when bonehead pitching decisions and lineups are made. Fire DANNY HALL. Great Recruiter. Worst playoff coach ever.

I don’t know if anyone on this blog was actually at the game last night, but it was packed on the Georgia Tech side. So I’m not really sure what people are talking about with the crowd last night, it was excellent. SoutherMissMan: congratulations. Ya’ll played better than us last night. But you rant and rave about our athletic program and it’s mediocrity, but please tell me that Southern Miss is any better. You had an average football season (7-6), a below average basketball season (14-16; 4-12), and an average baseball season. You simply got hot at the right time, which I commend you for. But don’t make a stab at our athletic program when our football team went 9-4 with a brand new coach and a brand new system, our baseball team earned yet ANOTHER number 1 seed and granted a regional site, and Amanda McDowell won her SECOND STRAIGHT NATIONAL TITLE. So congratulations to your school, I commend your players and coaches and staff, but don’t ever again question the history and tradition of my school.
And who gives a flip? You’re the one posting on our blog my friend.

I hope ya’ll have fun in Gainesville getting the crap kicked out of you. You got lucky with us, but we’ll see just where your baseball program is next year. I promise you, you’re not on our level and never will be. One weekend, you were the hotter team, not the better one, so don’t get it twisted. Brett Favre WAS a good quarterback. He turned his back on the Packers after they were the ones who really gave him a shot. The Falcons let him go because they realized the dude had problems. Congratulations, you really know how to grow them down in Southern Mississippi. I would say see you next year, but chances are we won’t because we’ll be hosting again, and you won’t even be in the tournament. And ya’ll should only make your plane tickets one-way, because Florida’s going to beat ya’ll all the way back to Southern Mississippi.

chan gomer gailey is the worst college football coach in history….thank God and greyhound that he is gone.
danny hall is possibly the worst postseason baseball coach around…he does recruit well and keeps tech’s program at a high regular season level.
paul hewitt is a pretty good recruiter but he seems to recruit them as individuals with no apparent concern of how they will fit in together.
tech will probably be better off to warm up the greyhound and get better all round coaches in basketball and baseball…but neither hall or hewitt are anywhere close to as bad as chan gomer gailey.

That baseball team is for real. Year after year they are in it eventually they will bring the bacon home. When I watch the Yankees or the Red Sox to name a few or the all star game and see alumni playing from Tech I am pretty proud.
In football we have gone from Joe Six Pack to at least the elite 20 in the country. We were a team that had bought into mediocrity, I see it all the time in real life. It is not the winning CPJ brings to the table it is the character, that stuff guys like Curry and Gailey only talk about, CPJ never mentions yet it in there for all to see. I listened to Gardener the offensive lineman drafted by Miami on the radio the other day and he sounded better than most coaches. He was articulate thoughtful with his comments. Tech has kept it values and now is proving you can win in that stable too. Great year for my Jackets!!!

Danny Hall can’t do everything. The players still have to play, and they didn’t. It was a mistake leaving Deck in, yes, and perhaps he did cost us that game, but Saturday was not his fault. As a Nole fan in Atlanta and having to put up with listening to the most obnoxious fans in all of college sports, it made my night to see Southern Miss beat tech. Tech fans are so delusional that they don’t realize the rest of the world laughs at them. All they do is try to make fun of UGA and all it is is envy. Tech will never be known for sports like the major sports program of UGA or FSU. The tech win last year over UGA was once in 8 years and like a blind squirrel finding a nut. LSU put them in their place and I was there in the dome to see it. It’s always fun to see tech choke, even if they are in the ACC.

I have two favorite Tech memories from this past year:
1. Georgia Southern beating Tech in baseball 23-3 in Atlanta.
2. Tech finally agreeing to play Georgia Southern in football (2015). The Yellow Jackets have been denying us an opportunity to play them for 26 years despite playing almost every other member of our conference. I guess they had to wait until they had a former Georgia Southern coach in place before they felt the odds would be in their favor.

So now the magic number is 8? Okay, is this the same number as those “academically superior” basketball student-athletes that failed to meet the minimum apr, thus embarrassing tech, the ACC, and costing you two scholarships? Or is 8 the number of players that O’Liary played during 3 seasons who were academically eligible? Or better yet, if 8 the IQ of the 300lb “academically superior” student-athlete who once beat up the pizza girl? If memory serves me correct, the goon didn’t even draw a suspension. Academic superiority…..BWAHAHAHAHA!!
Be careful about calling attention to the speck in someone else’s eye if you have a plank in yours.

We were are the Tech-FSU game this year. It has to be one of the most exciting football games we’ve ever attended. Lots of excitement throughout, with redemption at the end. We still talk about it. Great game. I was so proud of the Jackets.

To Southern Miss: Our school has Bobby Jones, Mark Teixeira, Jason Varitek, Nomar Garciaparra, Larry Mize, Stewart Cink, John Salley, Mark Price, Calvin Johnson, Keith Brooking, Pat Swilling, Dorsey Levins, Ken Whisenhunt, Matt Harpring, Kenny Anderson, Chris Bosh, Stephon Marbury, Matt Wieters, David Duval, and Dennis Scott to name of few. You have……Brett Favre. Oh and we’ve made the CWS twice in the last seven years, which is must different than once every 10 years.

And just how many of your storied athletes actually earned a degree from Tech? Better yet, how many earned an “engineering” degree from the vaunted north avenue trade school? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

The highlight was the Jackets giving up 42pts, but holding for a 3ptn win – their first win over UGA in nearly a decade – and actually having commemorative rings made for this “historic win” and then coming up 35pts short in the Chicken Bowl in Atlanta!

Correction Scott. The highlight was the 3rd quarter against Georgia. Tech got their teeth kicked in to the tune of a 42-19 score in the other 3 quarters. They might as well have put “3rd Quarter” on those commemorative rings instead of advertising the fact that they gave up 42 LEGITIMATE OFFENSIVE points (ie. no gift turnovers deep in opposing territory like we gave them).
Sure Techies, you won the game. No doubt about that. Does it mean we’re jealous of the 9-4 Chicken Bowl runner ups? Not in a million years. Does it mean we now respect you? No more than we respected freaking Vandy after they pulled a fluke win out their butts against us a few years back. For the record, they made no rings. Dismissed.

My favorite moment was coming back to beat UNC in baseball. To all the UGAG fans on here whatever happened to not caring about tech and focusing on florida? Was it the fact that we dominated you in every sport? Say congrats to your men’s tennis team as that’s the only damn one to beat us. To all southern Miss fans yes you did win the regional and congrats but can you tell me how it feels to have the umps in your back pocket. There was a point in the 2nd inning when it was 4-3 with two out and bases loaded and the ump did not call strike 3 which would have ended the inning. Then 2 innings later he called strike 3 against tech when the ball bounched off the freaking plate. Whatever it is you will not come back anytime soon and anytime we play you again it will be for vengeance and you won’t have a chance.

That wasn’t 10th grade spelling. More like 3rd grade. Nice try at a deflection, though.

The Grinch, thank you for the trip down memory lane, but THOSE comments were made on the Tech blog, not on any other teams. I have NO problem getting down on the level of the mutt fans that would get on a Tech blog and say the stuff they say. Please, go and find quotes I made on other teams blogs where i was disrespectful and THEN you could embrace justification for your remarks regarding my response to Huh?. GO TECH!!! AGAIN, GO TECH!!!

I don’t think they retired any jerseys Ramble On. First of all, its not the 1950’s anymore when that sort of thing was acceptable. Second, they aren’t pathetically desperate for respect and recognition like your fellow Techies. Not surprisingly, I respect Vandy and their fans. Techies not so much. Good day.

Tech fans, just wanted to say thanks for the hospitality over the weekend in Atlanta. We enjoyed the city and the fans and of course the baseball.
Sorry for the a-holes running around acting like Golden Eagle fans. I think we’re some of the best fans in the country- sad that some keyboard commandos want to get online and talk trash though.

> Grant Field= cracker box..always 60% full of UGA fans when teams play because Tech fans won’t support their own team.
> Tech offense = gimic..because they can’t recruit any talent to run a normal college offense
> 7 out of 8 = Georgia wins over the last eight games played
> 8 out of 9 = Georgia wins after this seasons game
> Cheese tray = what UGA fans will serve with the whine the Tech fans will make after Dawgs beat them down this year
> Country music = what Tech fans will be listening to at the Music City bowl this year
> excuses = Yada, Yada , Yada, Yada…sound Tech fans will be making at season end for their teams poor play and five losses!
