Best bet for a title

OK, we are getting near the end of the 2008-09 college sports season.

Tech still has baseball, softball, men’s golf, men’s track and women’s track alive and well. In addition, th women’s tennis team has several competitors in the NCAA individual tourney, including defending champ Amanda McDowell, and Guillermo Gomez is the 11th seed on the men’s side.

Which team, or person, do you think has the best chance of winning an NCAA championship this season?

Well we sure as hell know it wont be any football team from the ACC….. thanks to the greed of the bcs…. and the stupidity of its fans who would rather pointlessly bicker than come together to boycott the sport with the worst postseason in the history of sports.

Doug, you must have stay up all night writing this blog. Get some rest man.

Amanda McDowell is the best bet since she’s the returning champ. I guess the team has been eliminated?

Wow, Doug, these are some great blogs you are doing lately. Lots of depth, plenty of effort. We can’t wait for more. I guess it’s tough when you have to work this hard for a living.

The Hope Scholarship helps our spring sports and also helps the school because of the type students it recruits. Both Georgia and Tech have strong spring sports, and excellent student athletes. Zell Miller has a lasting legacy, and every spring we are reminded of it.

No offense, but these blogs are extremely lame. If this is the best the AJC can do, please just stop wasting our time. Seriously!! I hope Coley Harvey starts blogging again soon. The demise of print journalism is really depressing.

Guys get a life. Doug has posted three articles yesterday. What more do you want from him? Yes the Blogs are short, but the point of a blog is to generate discussion. Read the Brewster article if you want more content.

So Doug Imposter, If you COULD care less then that means you have some caring left in you for Tech. I think you meant to say I COULDN’T care less. This means you have no care at all left in you for Tech. It’s kinda like the morons that use loose instead of lose. Try again.

Tech competition, as well as for anyone else who plays UNC this season. Some pundits have cited inexperience at WR as being the weak spot for the Heels this season. I beg to differ:

The Tar Heels had five players selected in the 2009 NFL draft, a number that tied Maryland for the most among ACC schools. Three of those draftees were wide receivers, including the school’s all-time leader, Hakeem Nicks, who went in the first round to the New York Giants.
But the fact that the Tar Heels aren’t panicking in the wake of such significant losses is another sign that things are developing in Chapel Hill. To replace those receivers this spring, Davis rolled out the state’s former No. 1 prospect (Dwight Jones), a U.S. Army All-American Bowl participant (Joshua Adams) and a former USA Today All-American (Greg Little). More help could arrive this summer in the form of touted incoming freshman Jheranie Boyd, who was one of the top 50 overall prospects in the country for 2008, according to Rivals.com.Jones (6-4), Adams (6-4), Little (6-3) and yet another potential contributor to the receiving corps, sophomore Rashad Mason (6-5), are big targets who should be easy to spot in traffic. This corp of receivers should give the very experienced and accomplished TJ Yates some outstanding targets.

Softball. They are the only ones in uncharted territory. I don’t know anything about the track teams, but I would venture to guess the baseball and golf sagas will be a repeat of the same old story lines. Maybe they’ll surprise me this time around. Seems the women’s tennis team lost their fire this year.

Bo Williams, thanks for the update on the heels! I did not know UNC was so loaded with talent at WR. Trust me, TECH never will not be overlooking Butch’s crew, regardless of what preseason mags say. It is good to hear from other ACC fans rather than these (not all)dilusional SEC fans.
To answer the question asked; I think we have a decent shot in all of the remaining sports. Hey, there is always a chance! If I had to pick two with a greater chance, it would be Baseball or one of the Tennis singles. I don’t know much about the track teams, so that leaves softball and I just don’t think TECH has enough big game experience to make it to a final. Who knows though, it depends on how the ball bounces and who they play. Really the same applies to the baseball team. They just have more experience. Pitching will be huge. If we can save Deck Mc for the right games things could line up nicely. I know TECH will hit the ball and make some plays on D. Hopefully they can string some together and put themselves in a position to host Super-Reg.
I’m with stingem, give Doug a break. It is a blog. Really, it is up to us to keep this thing going if we want to. I kind of like the format of posting simple conversation starters to get people started. Don’t worry. I’m sure Doug will hit us with some big articles during the ACC baseball tourny and beyond, as well as Football preseason.

Hey, at least it’s not the same lame azz TP crap. Over and over and over and over and over again. It’s good to keep things fresh. Just try not to wear this one out.

Doug: Basically, we want football almost 100% of the time. We don’t mind you adding the results of the other sports, but ultimately we want to talk football, Coach Johnson, recruits, etc. If CPH was history, we would also want to talk basketball, but until he is relieved of his duties, it only depresses us to remember how much the BB team underachieves under Hewitt’s “leadership” every year.

I agree that while the subject isn’t lame, the amount of work in posing the question is. Why not describe the season for each team, with at least their won-loss record and how they ended the season. Oh, a UGA graduate is now the AJC rep. He doesn’t have time since he has to put fries in each order at the drive thru window.
