Baseball, heading toward home

The baseball team heads to Chattanooga tonight to take on Tennessee, assuming the weather improves. If you’ve never been to a game at the new ballpark there, it’s a beautiful place. And downtown Chattanooga is a fun place to hang out. Of course, the weather there is supposed to be as bad as it is here.

The game against the Vols is followed by this weekend’s important series against Florida State. The Seminoles are on top of the Atlantis Division (34-12, 18-7), and Tech is in second in the Coastal (31-11-1, 14-7-1).

Both teams are battling to for seeds in the pending conference tourney, as well as the right to host one of the regionals.

The Jackets and Georgia play on Tuesday at Turner Field, and then Tech goes back into the ACC with a regular season-ending series in Durham against Duke.

I brought this back to see if will generate any more discussion: Looking ahead to football, I was just perusing the ACC’s composite schedule and highlighting what I think will be the best games each week.

Post yours, and critique mine.

Sept. 5

Alabama at Va. Tech, Ga. Dome. Remember what the Tide did here last year against Clemson?

Sept. 10

Clemson at Ga. Tech. Witness the power of a fully operational spread-based option offense (assuming everyone’s healthy).

Sept. 17 and 19

Ga. Tech at Miami. Big test for both teams early in the season.

Nebraska at Va. Tech. Big Red vs. Big Maroon. A VT win could open some eyes around the nation in the beauty pageant that is the polls.

Sept. 26

UNC at Ga. Tech. Another in a tough three-game stretch for the Jackets.

Oct. 3

Oklahoma at Miami. This has the potential to get really ugly for the Canes.

Oct. 10

Ga. Tech at FSU. Paul Johnson must have done something to make the schedule-maker mad. (Just kidding, these things are done years in advance, for the most part).

Oct. 17

Virginia Tech at Ga. Tech. Read Oct. 10 entry.

Oct. 24

Boston College at Notre Dame. I’m sure the nation wouldn’t mind seeing the Eagles win.

Oct. 29

UNC at Virginia Tech. If the Hokies are still unbeaten, you’ll be able to hear the noise in Atlanta from Blacksburg and this Thursday night affair.

Nov. 7

FSU at Clemson. Dabo meet BoBo.

Nov. 14

FSU at Wake. The Deacons bring out the worst in the ‘Noles.

Nov. 21

Good weekend to rake leaves.

Nov. 28

Rivalry week. Too many good games to go into here. We’ll save that for another blog entry.

Still haven’t answered my question said “When my section sees you idiots at OUR home games in red in black we scream/cuss and give y’all hell….Why not come back at us with something? Anything? Don’t just walk away…”

It’s called class – something you obviously lack. I’m a die hard UGA fan but I have NEVER screamed/cussed fans of ANY college at home or on the road. That type of behavior is relegated to the worst kind of fan.

So what’s your point with all the tough talk? Your comments indicate YOU are the worst kind of keyboard cowboy.

I’ll scream and cuss at dawg fans all day….that’s my teams rival…that’s how it works. i’m not gonna kiss and hug them. my point is they come on here talking loads and loads of trash but every dawg fan i meet in person has not one harsh thing to say. seems they’re tougher on the blogs…that’s my point chief…get it?

One more question…

Why are you on the TECH BLOG?

You are a UGA fan right?

What is the point of being on this blog? Are you learning about the team? Or are you trying to get a rise out of people? Just curious….

To Mr. Ed-Covington,

Your argument is baseless. Read today’s article about the APR “myth”. It has been exposed. Same as the “academic superiority” myth spewed by many of the yellow jacket nation. Care to try again??

Damnit.

Would you people stop using FACTS. It’s giving me a headache. They’re just too dammnn inconvenient for me.

And would someone…pleeeeeeeease….clean the bird poop off my statue for crying ouot loud.

You’d think after all the Remedial Education majors I help put on the field for you big money contributors you cold keep my statue clean. Geez.

Vince, I’m with you. All these FACTS are giving me a splitting headache.

So, whats the problem with my INFAMOUS exam questions for my players, like…How many players on a basketball team?, and How many points is a free-throw worth? What’s the big problem, here?

Dont’ you people remember….UGA Presdient Michael Adams pesonally selected me to be the BBall HC? Where’s the respect you bunch of ungrateful Mutts? Where the HE** is MY statue?

You have got to love this… Florida State has courses in pre-history. Don’t think it would take long to go thru that text book. Va Tech had it also. They dropped it because Mike Vick failed the course. The text book did not have any pictures, go figure.

Gotta love a U[sic]GA fan trying to talk academics. Of course your analytical abilities can be described by what mathematicians call a null set, so it is not surprising that you cannot reason for yourself. (i) find ANY publication that has U[sic]GA anywhere near Tech’s academics, (ii) unlike U[sic]GA, Tech does not immerse themselves in fields like NASCAR studies, physical education, or art history. Consequently the competition is orders of magnitude more stringent at Tech. (iii) Let’s look to the market that is the best signal. Median wages of Tech are substantially higher than that of U[sic]GA; you don’t suppose that is due to randomness?

Keep posturing about your academically superior athletes, it’s all hot air. More and more articles are proving just the opposite. This APR is just the latest. AJC article from last football season also found the divide between yellow jacket and bulldog ATHLETES is shrinking. The yellow jacket athletes scored just 79 point higher than those at georgia. Add to this coach johnson’s statement that he would begin challenging georgia for the best players in the state. If, as many yellow jacket fans claim, georgia only gets dumb athletes, then why are the yellow jackets now going after those same players? Sounds like your argument is (sic)……HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Mr. Grinch;
Quote from the article:” Teams face penalties if, over a four-year period (in this case 2004-08), too many players transfer, drop out, lose their eligibility, or fail to graduate. ” So how is my argument baseless?

If ANY of you think that the football and basketball players are true STUDENT/athletes at EITHER school you need to wake up! We all know the truth and unfortunately that is what it takes to be competitive on the playing field. Both schools have top notch programs in different areas of study.

Sorry mutts, but based on just SAT scores, the student body and the football players at GT are smarter than the same at UGA – get over it. As for this fan, the only damn numbers I give sh*t about when it comes to the playing field is …………………………………
45-42 in your house! THWG!

The part about players who leave early and play in the pros. Those did NOT go against the yellow jackets. THAT makes your argument baseless. Care to try again?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

GTMan, I agree whole heartedly with your first paragraph.

The second paragraph is what I might challenge. Last December the AJC had an article showing the football/basketball players at GT averaged just 79 points higher on their SATs than those at UGA. What I found puzzling about the article is that the UGA data was back when Donnan was coach and things have improved under CMR. The GT info was from 5 years later (Gailey). Personally, I don’t think a 79 point difference would distinguish athletes from being “smart” or “dumb”.

Also, Tech is now supposedly going to compete with the Bulldogs for in state football talent. Does this mean Tech will now be recruiting the “dumb” athletes?

HAHAH, stupid nig uga fans. Dumb douche bags need to get a life. Let me know when you want to catch a serious a$$ beating. All you kids are about 16 years old….LMAO! 16 year old queer bags. UGA education is garbage, and you can’t get a job paying over $35,000 with it. So if thats what you want, then good for you. Please someone list a job out of uga that pays over $50K without having to have a Masters or Doctorate???? Yeah, it doesn’t exist. Just remember that the avg salary out of GT is just over $50,000. So that does that say about the schools? Exactly.

To moron.

What an appropriate name.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume your claim of $50K for a GT grad is accurate. Most engineering jobs with manufacturers will cap out in the $70K to $80K range. I know many business majors (from georgia and other colleges) who make 6 figures a year and the sky’s the limit. So go ahead and take your $50K and enjoy your cubicle for the next 40 years. I’ll take the growth plan offered by georgia any day.

some other suggested games of the week:

sept 5 – maryland @ cal – this of course assumes the “good” terps show up – think jahvid best will be up for this game after the hit he took at byrd stadium last year

sept 12 – unc @ uconn – intense coaching matchup between roy williams and jim callhoun; oops, wrong sport… this should be a suprisingly good game

nov 28 – the u @ south florida – this is the bulls’ first shot against one of the sunshine state’s big 3 (the u, fsu, and florida) – raymond james should be rocking for this one
