Catching up on the weekend

Some interesting things happened this weekend at Georgia Tech:

The softball team won the ACC with two wins against Maryland.

The baseball team swept Presbyterian and Chase Burnette set several single-game records in Sunday’s win, including hits (6), doubles (3), home runs (3), RBI (9) and total bases (18).

For the series, he batted .667 with four home runs, three doubles, seven runs scored and 13 RBI against the Blue Hose.

The women’s basketball team made it safely to Tunisia. I hope to get some updates from assistant SID Dan Goldberger, who is with the squad.

As for why there was no blog this weekend, I’m new to the beat and am spending a lot of time meeting folks. I hope to begin blogging more soon.

Doug,

Now that I got the first post (a rarity, condisering i only check in a couple times a week) i can get on with the substance: It may take a while to get up to speed on GT. That’s fine, but remember we have higher standards than *other* schools in our state. We prefer quality over quantity, and understand that athletics sometimes must take a backseat to academics. The following joke sums up the GT/UGA relationship perfectly:
What is the most common four letter word used by UGA fans to describe Tech fans?
“BOSS!”

Tech was preseason number 14 in some poll last week. Have we got any irons in the fire for Dwyer for Heisman? Player of the year last year in the ACC and this press barely writes about him. In this offense he may be the number one rusher in the NCAA like he was in the ACC last year.

Doug, How did the “Le Nez” end up on here? It could be worse as I commented on your last article. They could have you wearing a yellow shirt.

You’ve got it wrong with that joke. Most Dawgs have other four letter words to describe Tech folks. For example there is dork, nerd, weak, herb, etc. True enough, they are rude, but, I bet more accurate monikers, none the less.
You must to be trying to say what a joke it is that a Tech grad could be a boss. Most Tech grads I have run into out in the world are cubicle dwellers that care less or are oblivious to sports. That might explain the low numbers in the stands and in the fund raising department.

Not at all trying to be insulting, sorry if the truth of the matter does so. But really, what do you expect when you embrace things like robot roll call and insist on floating myths like your athletes aren’t in remedial programs, if they even go to class at all.

Gravy Train, you’ve dated yourself there. You’re probably at least 30 years old, because you do NOT know Georgia Tech as it is today. I’m one current Tech student who’s eager to show you how wrong you are if you think we’re mostly cubicle types. While it may have been true of the nerds that went before us, Tech has doubled in size and scope since the Olympics…so more students are just very academic “normal people.” That’s in quotes because we’re not exaclty like everyone else…not completely. The one thing we still have is a wild student body with a devil-may-care attitude. So now, more than ever, is a good time to get it all out of your system on a blog, because if you come to campus on gameday talking smack about our students (especially in the Greek district) you’re likely to end up on your face. This is a common mistake made by 30-somethings and older who like to wear red, bark and remember Tech as their school’s brainy little brother that they were always secretly jealous of.

And as a proud Industrial Design major, I can say that I will NEVER work in a cubicle! Yes, “Boss” is sounding just fine as both a personal title and a good way for you nineteen-eighty-nothing’s to describe my superior academic institution. Go Jackets.

“Devil-may-care attitude”??? How old are you? I don’t think my grandfather uses that expression anymore!

I said we were well-rounded…which includes well-read. I can use hackneyed expressions if I choose, okay? The guy was out of line.

Still here at the TECH blog day in and day out huh lil’ buddies? I’m starting to think you might need counseling. DBC, that was bold and surely not something you would say to me in person. On what grounds would you peg me at the bottom of the Greeks at Tech? And just how would you define the bottom of a Greek community? My fraternity happens to be on top in GPA and plenty of intramural sports. We have decent social events and a nice house. Not what I would call the bottom, but I guess it’s all pretty subjective.

All I was saying is talk trash in our yard on a gameday dressed in red and you’ll soon be begging like the Dawg you are.

I Agree

I’m with you Whiskey. A lot of these Dawg fans sure are tough on a blog. Sh*t my grandma could be tough on a blog. Never seen a single one of them talk the kinda trash they do in here to me or any tech fan in public. If you hate us so much then don’t just hide behind your computer. Come bring your trash talking downtown this November. Something tells me you’ll be quiet in your red in black till you get home after the game… and then it’s back on mom’s computer for some more douchebagery….
