GT and the draft

Well, the Jackets had four players drafted on Sunday.

I was surprised that each player wasn’t drafted a bit higher.

Cincinnati’s coaches echoed the comments of the analyst that shall not be named, really taking Michael Johnson to task: http://tinyurl.com/dj96sx

It’s a shame that Andrew Gardner got injured last year and dropped a round or two below where he likely would have gone if healthy. But the Dolphins and Tony Sparano know how to coach linemen.

Overall, four of the first nine picks came from the ACC, the only conference that can say that.

I hope to have a story on Tuesday about the guys who have signed free-agent deals to go to camp, guys like Jahi Word-Daniels.

Also, to clear up a few things, someone went onto my first blog, “greetings,” under my name and wrote quite a few things that aren’t true. To set the record straight, I don’t root for Georgia. I don’t root for anyone, except Liverpool (as I already said).

Not cool by the person who did it, but that’s what happens sometimes. I deleted that person’s posts, and hope to get the graybox thing figured out on Monday, which will clear up any confusion about who is posting.

Gerrard would have been a great QB…if he were raised in the States. He’ll just have to settle for being one of the best futball players/leaders in the world. It’s a shame his national team coaches never knew how to fully utilize him like Benitez does. Oh wait, this is suppose to be a Tech forum…

We do need ajc coverage of the EPL and the Champions League. Doug, get moving on that! And as for futballers that would make the transition over to football, look no further than Didier Drogba. No flopping jokes, please.

I’m a Falcon fan interested in learning a bit more about our Vance Walker, our late round DT from Tech.

How can the ACC have 4 of the top 7 when the SEC is the greatest conference in the history of the Universe?

“How can the ACC have 4 of the top 7 when the SEC is the greatest conference in the history of the Universe? “

The SEC has 5 BCS championships to the ACC’s 1, the SEC is 12-5 in BCS games. The ACC is 2-9.

Every time an SEC team goes to the BCS championship game, they win. In the 3 times an ACC team has gone to the championship game the ACC team one once. (No Miami’s two national titles don’t count; they won those representing the Big East)

the fact that the ACC had a majority of the talent but no National championship contender is even more damning proof the ACC is a terrible conference overall.

Cincinnati got the steal of the draft by picking Michael Johnson in the 3rd round. He is definitely a 1st round talent and will prove it in the pros. He is much more likely to be successful than Matthew “Jeff George reincarnated” Stafford…what a waste of cash for the pitiful Detroit Lions.

Doug, sorry about some idiot cloning your name, but it’s to be expected. I too will be glad when you learn to gray out your comments. ;-)
“Four fine young men from Georgia Tech were drafted in the NFL!” They will have a chance to prove themselves. Should they have been drafted earlier?….. Maybe so, but we are Georgia Tech and we move forward. These guys will be sucessful. Later Jackets! I remain, “Not Disappointed!”

Catching up on some spring sports from the weekend, as Tech begins finals this week:

The softball team took over first place in the ACC with a series sweep over North Carolina. The team is 37-13 this season.

The baseball team wasn’t as fortunate, dropping a series to Clemson. Tech, which dropped to second in the ACC with the loss, has two ACC series remaining before the tourney. There are also single games against Tennessee and Georgia, as well as a series that starts Friday against Presbyterian.

Is there a Tech fan out there that can tell this Falcon fan what kind of player Walker is? Is he a practice squad guy? Is he someone that can make the DT rotation? A run stopper?

Just got off the phone with Darryl Richard, who is very excited to be heading to Foxboro on Thursday for the Patriots’ rookie camp.

While the Patriots drafted two other defensive tackles, who both weigh more than Richards, he said he thinks his quickness will enable him to play either DT or DE in the Pats’ 3-4 scheme.

Oh, and he and NE coach Bill Belichick didn’t talk about Gisele.

Being a big Tech and Falcons fan, I think Vance Walker is a solid pick. Gut instinct…He will probably not be a dominating pro bowl defensive lineman, but he should be a so-called “quality player”…like a Jonathan Babs or Chauncey Davis. Of course I hope he turns out to be a Hall of Famer. Best of luck to Vance, Chauncey, Babs and the rest of the Falcons!! I cannot wait to see him when training camp begins in a few months.

No dog,
The SEC hasn’t whipped the nation the last 3 or 4 years. LSU and Florida have had some great teams in that span. Don’t hang on the coat tails of two great programs. The SEC didn’t win those games, those two teams did. Win your own championship, then start howling.
Vance, MJ, and Gardener will mae their teams. I think the Dr. will be a practice teamer.

UGA fans,
All those draft picks and you still lose to us. First year coach, new offense, new defense, new QB and running back, and 75 scholarship players. That is what happened. Most of our talent just finished spring drills and will be gunning for the ACC and SEC’s heads. Best offense since Hamilton’s senior year. If we have a decent defense, we have a great shot at the ACC crown and the streak. Good night all.

Yeah, and GT goes down the street to the Chicken Bowl and gets their butt handed to them by LSU who most teams in the SEC have to play every year just to get to a bowl. RAMBLE ON!! your logic gets more fuzzy and you get stupider with each passing day.

Does anyone have the scoop on why MJ dropped from a potential top 10 pick to the 3rd round. I have heard that on top of being categorized as a “lazy” player that he also had a horrible Wonderlicht score and fared poorly in some individual interviews with verbal communication being a handicap for him. Anybody have anything else?

Jacket21, you obviously didn’t read my post or you didn’t understand it. I never said the SEC whipped anyone, I pointed out that the ACC has an abysmal record in ALL BCS games compared to the SEC and that the ACC has won fewer BCS championships than the SEC, you can’t argue these points, they are facts.

Anyone that says the ACC is superior to the SEC in the BCS era is mistaken, or they have another yardstick for success.

As an outsider, I get the whole “Hope” thing, seeing Tech finally win vs. UGA this past year. What I don’t get is the “we have the upper hand now” type of comments I see. There is just too much parity in College football to think any one team can dominate another for any extended amount of time, with good coaching.

I think it’s odd that most fans here hold the UGA win in such high importance, when they should be more concerned with the resurgence of Miami, FSU, Clemson, and UNC. I would think winning the ACC Crown would be more important than Beating an out of confrence UGA.

RAMBLE ON!!!

April 28th, 2009

That’s not nice Sam. Yeah, so LSU beat us bad with a month to prepare and a healthy QB. GT took them lightly, a mistake, just like Gardner Webb.

The SEC is over hype each and every year. Top to bottom, I am not impressed. If you’re looking for someone to bow to the SEC, you ain’t getting it here. You can bet the morons in the AP and the SEC coaches will have votes for Auburn, UT in the polls. TB will.

Not Disappointed…yuck. I can’t imagine what a creepy loser that must be, makes me want to go take another shower.

NateGT78, did you ever watch Michael Johnson play this past year. I hate to badmouth a Tech player, but it was like he only showed up when he wanted to. That apparent lack of consistent motivation was apparently noticed by NFL scouts and translated as “laziness.” Tech seems to have a history of players like that in recent years. Phillip Wheeler was the worst. How he could be so brilliant in that close home loss to Notre Dame and then manage to do absolutely nothing in games like the UVA one that year just baffels the hell out of me. I don’t know if that kind of mentality was a byproduct of Tenuta’s coaching or what, but I sure hope that kind of defensive player is long gone from the Flats. The TO will pile on the points, but if we can’t stop the opposing offenses, there are going to be some needlessly close games.
