Spring football priorities

Spring practice begins at 3:30 p.m. today. It’s the first of 14 practices before the T-Day Game at noon Saturday, April 18.

Ken picked five storylines to watch. Coley Harvey of the Macon Telegraph has five questions to ponder. And here’s the preview from Tech’s sports information office.

You also might have noticed this tidbit about Tech hosting an actor preparing for “The Blind Side” movie. If you haven’t read the book by Michael Lewis (”Moneyball,” “Liar’s Poker”), I can’t recommend it enough.

So how would you rank Tech’s priorities this spring?

Who can tell me about the competition at kicker and punter? It would be nice to be able to kick a 45 yard FG and to have a punter we could rely on.

Has Martinez accepted another position at another school? He should do well for any High School team.

Um, GT might want to ban the Macon Telegraph’s photographer from campus.

The thing to watch this summer is the continued development of the Robot. Just watch when Nesbot really perfects his ability to throw the ball. We’ll be unstopable. Right, mutts? LOL! The Robot just scored on you again! ROTFLMAO!!

I think that Steven Hill will give him a target like we didn’t have last year. Hill has been called “a more polished AJ Green with better hands” by more than one scout. Just read scout and rivals.

The Robot throws another to Hill! Touchdown Tech!!

#1 priority at Tech should be to NEVER forget the incredible mistake of hiring Chan Gailey. Those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it. Thank God and greyhound that the worst coach in the history of the world is gone forever.

The number one priority should be shipping m over to Afganistan so we can use his strength of utter annoyance on them.

HAHA this is great steven hill a more polished AJ Green yeah right you guys got to pass the ball first! your defense needs to be rebuilt, LSU showed the rest of the country how to stop you offense. Lost 2 staring O line man. You can’t say you won’t miss micheal johnson. well good luck

GT needs to work in fundamentals just like everybody else. As a UGA fan, I just heard that CPJ worked directly for CER. I have a new found respect for the man. Here come the insults.

M, thanks for checking in, but I believe that mistake has now been rectified 1,000 times over. Let it go.
Priorities over the spring? No. 1, don’t get anybody knocked out for the season. And that’s about it.
Most of the OL is back. All the backs return and there are some other ones who didn’t play last year who are out there. The DBs and LBs are back. The D-line will be just fine with Morgan, Hall, Anderson, Barnes. Blair will get better.
I have never been more ready for a Tech season opener than I am this year. Look at CPJ’s track record — 2nd year at Georgia Southern, national championship game. 2nd year at Navy, first bowl bid since Dewey said “You may fire when ready, Gridley” at Manila Bay.
I. Can’t. Wait.

Hey “M”
Give it a rest with this thank God and greyhound crap. I have seen you post the same thing about how awful chan gailey was for over a year now. Do you like beating a dead horse?? Do everyone on here a favor. Stop bashing a nice person who just didnt fare well at tech or don’t post anymore. Its over. Hes gone. The future is bright at tech and Im excited. Go Jackets. Let a new streak begin!

M, don’t ever stop reminding everyone, because people are stupid and need to be reminded not to repeat history. Take Obama for example, he has forgotten that socialism doesn’t work, so he needs someone like M to punch him in the head and say “wake up stupid!”. :D bring it.

THE ROBOT… take off the question marks and add a few exclaimation points! It’s the ROBOT!!! Cause he’s automatic and it rhymes. We like it, so shut your pie hole.

We’ll miss Johnson on the d-line, no doubt. But when we’re scoring 42 a game, it won’t matter too much.

You’ll see CPJ open the offense a bit more this year – adding in some of that passing attack he ran at Hawaii.

The Robot Nesbot will pass Tebow’s numbers by his senior year – that is, if the Robot isn’t playing on Sundays by then.

I was thinking that M’s (vastly incorrect – Bill Lewis, need I say more?) commentary was a year 1 thing that he’d move on from going into year 2, but Gailey’s leaving is now ancient history and I think I speak for almost all Tech fans (Todd excluded, perhaps Todd = M?) when I say that we’re over it, and suggest you get over it too.

Defensive line is the key. I want to see how this RS Fresh TJ Barnes steps up, because if he is any good, the DL could be even better against the run. Also want to see JC Lanier this summer and see if GT has themselves a pair of 300+ monsters at DT.

Offensive line. Not so much the position battles, as all five starters from the last few weeks of the season return. But to see if their work as a unit improves and how their pass blocking has progressed.

Special Teams. It’s time we witnessed some gamebreaking play from our kick and punt returners. Now that we’re two recruiting classes in, there should be some talent to choose from that doesn’t have to be starters at other positions (like Dwyer at KR or Roddy as PR). Maybe someone like Marcus Wright can separate himself and show he’s not a risk with the ball on returns). Also the additional depth after a year in PJ’s system maybe can improve the coverage.

I’m talking to you – “THE ROBOT??? (check chick fil a bowl)” -. Are you an LSU fan? If so you’re more than welcome to talk trash. But something tells me you’re a miserable UGA fan. If that’s the case what is there to say to Tech fans? YOUR TEAM LOST! Move on! WE GET IT..YOU LOVE GEORGIA! Neat man! Really neat. Now go talk on the UGA blog. What are you doing here? Reveling in the fact that your team lost to TECH? Freakin idiot. You’re making Georgia fans look more childish and lame than they already are. Next time you want to talk trash make sure your team beats the team you’re talking trash to. Do you act like this in front of Gator fans as well? I’ll bet they laugh at your dumbass…

Ramblin, I don’t need gamebreaking plays on the special teams. I’d settle for eliminating all the turnovers from our punt and kick return teams – and them not being asleep at the wheel when other teams do fakes and on-sides.

I agree with ya Ramblin if those 300lb’s step up to be the starters and they are able to hold their own I can only imagine what Griffin is going to to do being able to run east and west easily….
I think Nes catches a lot of crap for passing but I really do believe he will step that part of his game up this year after trying to learn the run package last year….I think Hill will be red-shirted this year to see if a second reciever will step up…but Im not complaining if he wants to step up and be that second guy who makes great plays.

On the D side: Pass coverage, maintaining the strong d-line with new faces.
On the O side: O-line (terrible O-line in 2008= 4 losses period), Passing game.

I must say though when PJ sais something will be better he ususally does a good job at it…so I think special teams will be entirely re-vamped this year and might a strength down the stretch instead of a weakness. O-line I think will a huge strength with the last part of the year to work together and all of them returning, once Voss comes back I think our o-line is going to be scary good

Routine System Check:

Priority One: Defensive Line rebuild. Protocol one: upload Lanier and Barnes. Lanier must control the size of his harddrive. Massive amounts of RAM is positive. Processing speed must be sufficient for Line to maintain effectiveness from last year.

Priority Two: Establish offensive pass attack. Lead driver: The Robot. Protocol Two: Engage Stephen Hill into process flow. Commence play fake and execute long pass. Repeat protocol once per quarter.

Priority Three: Reboot Special Teams. Punt return must be checked for viruses. A starting back must be used in connection with return game. High rish, high reward.

That is all. Robot out.

Ben Anderson will be stout along with a nasty rotation of Walls and Barnes. He is vitually a veteran in his 4th year of Giff Smith’s trenches. Big Ben finally gets to play more than a couple of snaps a game. He will put a stop to all these D-Line questions with a swagger. Lanier will take a shirt

To UGA fans posting LSU garbage: The LSU game plant was indeed brilliant, they dominated the line of scrimmage. What an innovation! That game was a showcase of how the offensive line was a failure last year. They were really bad, but good enough to beat you, so drop it. I don’t go on your blogs talking GATOR trash! But since we have to talk about UGA and not the first spring practice, how’s it going with the recruits that were supposed to be superstars next year? Dexter Moody is out. Maybe because he likes ‘em married, which has been know to leading to ‘altercations’. I’ve heard Washaun Ealey is out too. Come on Bulldoggies, fess up. Who else is getting dropped?

The trash talking here isn’t even entertaining, same repetitive drama. The fact is, GT has become relevant again. The scenario is no different than a schoolyard bully who keeps layin’ the wood to one, semester after semester, when all of a sudden, that one swings back. It’s who has the better approach the next go round.

How about we just stick with reality, and hope that our team is consistent this year instead of “choking up.” I don’t want to say that we’ll win the conference and go to National Championship and end up falling short of expectations and look stupid like UGA fans did.

This spring, they need to work on consistency.

Hey, somebody send this one to CPJ. Did anyone see the mini-reverse that Florida ran on Oklahoma? So, Tebow starts left, and everyone is looking for him to pitch out to Demps aroung the left side. All 22 players going that way. Then, he turns and pitches a shovel pass back to the the tight end from the right side, trailing the play. Tight end trots for 20 yards up the middle. Would that work here, or what?

My only real goal this year for Tech is to not get emasculated on national television in our three biggest games of the year. Do that and I think we make some serious strides in recruiting in-state.
