Luke Huard will join Georgia State staff

Luke Huard will join Trent Miles’ staff at Georgia State.

Huard is currently the offensive coordinator at Illinois State. Miles hasn’t decided which position group Huard will coach on the offensive side of the ball. He is expected to arrive next week. The Redbirds lost 51-35 to Eastern Washington in the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs.

With Huard calling the plays, Illinois State averaged 30.2 points and 396.8 yards per game this season. They averaged 27.9 points and 383 yards in 2011 and 389 yards in 2010, all with Huard as offensive coordinator.

Miles’ Indiana State teams were in the same conference (Missouri Valley) as Illinois State.

Huard joined Illinois State in 2009 as quarterbacks coach and helped true freshman Matt Brown pass for almost 2,400 yards. Brown passed for 2,665 yards as a sophomore, 2,187 yards as a junior and 3,370 yards this year.

Huard graduated from North Carolina 2002. Two of his brothers, Damon and Brock, were quarterbacks at Washington.

He will join Jeff Jagodzinski, who was hired as offensive coordinator earlier this week, and Harold Etheridge, who came with Miles from Indiana State and who will coach the offensive line.

The new staff is:

Defensive coordinator: Jesse Minter

Linebackers: P.J. Volker

Defensive line: Shannon Jackson

Defensive backs: J.D. Williams

Offensive coordinator: Jeff Jagodzinski

Offensive line: Harold Etheridge

???: Luke Huard

Running backs:

Quarterbacks:

Slow your roll. Baby steps. First let’s get some bodies in the stands before we start talking about beating in state competition. I want to get excited like you, but making comments like that shows your ignorance. Tech is clearly in a down point in their program, but after PJ gets fired they will be back to where they were. UGA missed playing in the national championship by 4 points and Southern is still in the playoffs even though it is FCS. Wait until we have some success before you start talking smack. We will get there, but we aren’t there today.

Never the less Go Panthers!

@ To: Panther: That’s probably a Southern troll trying to stir the pot as a poser. They do it all the time because there’s nothing to do in Statesboro.

But I agree! Go Panthers!

All of our coaches are from fcs and their not still playing… that should be enough to make us not criticize GS.

[...] the AJC got reactions from Coach Miles and Falcons QB Matt Ryan on the hire. Former Illinois State OC Luke Huard and UNLV DC JD Williams were also added to the staff as position [...]

@gsu1987

I think you mean they’re (I’m assuming they don’t teach/know grammar in Statesboro). Also, yes, all our coaches are FCS. Except our head coach who has coached in the NFL and FBS. Ad our offensive coordinator who was head coach at Boston College…

Oh, I just realized, you’re an idiot.

Let’s be honest, Georgia State will never be on the same playing field as UGA or GT. Heck, even tiny Georgia Southern would dominate lowly Georgia State. You guys should just enjoy your athletic mediocrity and your MBA diploma mill and leave football to real schools.

If you think a GSU fan wrote that about us beating UGA and Tech, then you are not very deft.

Go Dwags!!!

@GODWAGS — your ignorance is showing, which is typical for people who don’t know what they don’t know. I doubt you even graduated from UGA. GSU is much more than a MBA mill. Get the facts before you spout off because it only magnifies your lack of knowledge and likely intelligence.

GODAWGS………Never say Never! The same doubts were expressed in Hampton Roads about ODU starting a football program after 68 years since their last game. It all hinges on the HC and the backing of the administration. ODU has sold out every home game it has played in an area that has little football tradition.

ODU also hasn’t played a down of FBS football. And you’re right, ODU has been outstanding in FCS. A feat that Georgia State was unable to accomplish. 10 wins in three seasons in the little leagues doesn’t translate well for FBS. I have no doubts that Georgia State will get better, they can only go up from where they are. It’s the fact that all twenty of their fans are so arrogant and think their school is the best thing to happen to this state. And just for the record, I graduated from UGA in 2000.

Chill Folks! Another solid coaching hire. One step at a time………… CTM knows we have to recruit well and get the Alums behind the program. It can and will eventually happen. Got to love the GS trolls acting as GSU fans. lol Oh yea, GODAWGS no worries concerning your beloved DAWGS in Athens town. Although, I believe Bobo should have had Murray ground the ball. Oh well, now we’ll never know? Go Bama take it to Notre Dame!
