A little bit of bio on Trent Miles

Trent Miles was hired as Georgia State’s football coach, the second in the program’s short history.

His task will be huge: turn around a program that is 10-23 in its first three years and eventually make them competitive on the FBS level, where bowls are the goal.

Here is a little bit of information I’ve compiled about Miles, who will be introduced at a press conference on Monday.

Trent Miles

  • He’s a native of Terre Haute, Ind.;
  • He is married with four children, three daughters and a son;
  • He was a ballboy at Indiana State;
  • His father attended Indiana State;
  • Trent Miles played wide receiver for the Sycamores;
  • The 1984 team he was on was ranked No. 1 and was eventually inducted into the Indiana Sports Hall of Fame;
  • He graduated with a degree in criminology in 1987;
  • He is active in the community, serving on the boards of the United Way of the Wabash Valley and the Terre Haute Boys & Girls Club;
  • There are tweets that he’s going to bring at least one member of his staff with him, defensive coordinator Jesse Minter;
  • His 2010 Indiana State set a school record for scoring with 319 points. The year before the team scored 12 touchdowns and totaled 99, both program lows;
  • Indiana State was third this year in FCS in scoring defense (14.3 points per game) and sixth in total defense (296.4 yards per game);
  • As an assistant at New Mexico, Fresno State, Notre Dame, Washington and Stanford, he has coached Bernard Berrian, Terrance Mathis, Maurice Stovall, Rhema McKnight and Arnaz Battle, Jeff Samardzija, Luke Powell and Teyo Johnson;
  • He went 20-36 at Indiana State, but turned around the program in the last three years, going 19-14 with three consecutive winning seasons;
  • He was Missouri Valley Football Coach of the Year in 2010;

Well as long as we are hiring a yankee…one good thing…

“•He graduated with a degree in criminology in 1987″

Amount of fans at today’s Southern playoff game, as other Southern fans have pointed out, it’s just simple supply & demand. How many years have Southern been playing football? How many flags does Southern have? GTFO with your bs chest pounding and admit you are scared about the coach we just hired the fact he will turn us around

If we win a game next year I will be surprised….remember the peter principle..this guy may have advanced as far as he can…making ISU decent in the MVC doesn’t impress me. Those teams are always up-and-down.

I’m cautiously optimistic about the hire. He’s definitely not much to look at. I trust that he was a tad lighter when he played wide receiver. Though his hair, like Elvis, has left the building. He has greatly expanded his waistline to compensate for it’s tragic loss. Someone noted that coach Miles was of the Yankee persuasion. So what. With proper care, and feeding, even hard core Yankees have been successfully rehabilitated. Besides, Yankee coaches aren’t always that bad. I understand that there was this dude named Lombardi that wasn’t too slouchy.

Miles is not a Yankee! He is as far from being a Yankee as a Southerner is considered a Yankee. He is a Midwesterner. Big, big difference. People in the Midwest are good polite folks. Can’t say as much for Yankees!

Coach Miles wants to be our coach. That’s a good start. Turning around programs should have read program as his head coaching experience seems to be limited to his last job. That said, his resume was what you might call just right. If it was any better he wouldn’t have us. If it was any worse we wouldn’t have him.

Trent’s said to be a good recruiter, If so he’s come to the right place. though he’ll have to settle for Georgia’s left overs, and Tech’s rejects, in Georgia that can be be like consoling the girls Brad Pitt turned away. We produce more talent than the big boys can sign. If the coach can coach, Georgia will provide the talent.

Let’s all hope that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Hey guys, I have the recruiting skills of a brick, so no need to worry about beating me out for recruits!

With all the sports news this weekend, we must have overlooked the attendance at Georgia Southern’s football game. This is an Atlanta newspaper after all, so you’ll have to forgive us. Since you’re giving us the news, has the Eagles stadium installed indoor plumbing yet, or do they have 9,000 port-a-potties? Atlanta readers are dying to know.

Hot damn! New defensive coordinator.

Can’t wait to see who he hires to take over the offensive side.
