NCAA rules Washington can’t play for Georgia State hoops this year

The NCAA has turned down Georgia State’s appeal to allow Curtis Washington to play for the men’s basketball team this year.

Washington, a 6-9, 230-pound forward, transferred to Georgia State from Southern Cal during the offseason. He will have two years of eligibility remaining. The Panthers will host Life College in an exhibition at 7 p.m. Monday at the Sports Arena.

Coach Ron Hunter said they considered appealing the NCAA’s decision, but decided not to.

Washington’s absence should mean more playing time for T.J. Shipes, Laron Smith and Denny Burguillos, according to Hunter.

The situation is the same as Manny Atkins’, who transferred to Georgia State from Virginia Tech and had to sit out last year. He is eligible to play this year.

While Washington must now sit out (he can still practice), another big man is catching Hunter’s eye. He said Markus Crider, a 6-6 combo player, is coming on strong. Hunter said Crider is skilled enough to play anywhere from point to power forward.

“He’s so versatile he makes things better for us,” Hunter said.

Ryann Green, a 6-1 guard, is another player who is impressing Hunter. Green, who walked on to the team last year, has worked his way into the eight-man rotation because of his toughness.

“As a group I love where we are at but those two guys have really worked their way into the rotation,” Hunter said.

Though R.J. Hunter is one of four players who will likely start, along with Devonta White, Rashaad Richardson and Manny Atkins, Hunter said he’d like to R.J. improve his consistency and defense, which Hunter said happens with most of the freshmen.

“His bad days can’t be bad,” Hunter said. “His great days are great. He’s got to figure out that medium.”

Thanks again NCAA. Another student/athlete wasting a year away of eligibility. No surprise here, just got to go with who we have ready and eligible to play. CRH will lead these men to VICTORY again no doubt. Take it to them on the hard court PANTHERS!

I do notice that there is not so much Trash talk form the GaState fans on this blog or the other blogs anymore. Glad you GaState fans have LEARNED your place.
Yes, GaState Ben is GONE. He even stopped saying GSU is the Real GSU, now that he realizes GaState couldn’t beat Ga Southerns second team.

Okay Sure

Could have use them this season, but we will move forward! At least he will be allowed to practice so he can learn the system.

Didn’t Ga State beat Southern in basketball by 20 points last season? I kind of remember it being a beat down. Using a Southern Troll’s logic why does Ga Southern have a basketball team? Your team sucks so bad that you should be embarrassed. You need to recognize and appreciate teams like Ga State MBB who have earned the right to say your team sucks. Bow down to us and as we criticize you and your team throughout the season do not reply. You should take it because your team is terrible. I describe your entire basketball team as a Dumpster that is burning out of control.

Does this sound familiar to you………. denial.

Learning Your Place is long used term by those who are insecure about those below them rising up. The prime examples are racists (slave owners, segregationists, racists or those in a position of power, however, race is the 1st thing that comes to mind when using the term Learn Your Place.

not for most of us.. you should evaluate your own attitudes and determine if you are changing with the times or if you are one of problems. Most of the world is moving on.

Reader, please explain to us what exactly it means?

I am ahead of the times because I don’t use phrases like that, only people stuck in a by gone era still use those phrases. Maybe you need to move on from using that phrase.
