Delic’s request to play for GSU this year denied by NCAA

The NCAA has denied Nermin Delic’s request to play football this season for Georgia State.

Delic, a defensive tackle, transferred to Georgia State this year after spending two years at Kentucky.

Delic, a native of Tunnel Hill, used his redshirt year as a sophomore at Kentucky in 2011. After sitting out this year, he will have two years of playing time at Georgia State.

The NCAA earlier ruled that transfers Theo Agnew and Ronnie Bell could play for the Panthers this year. Agnew, a defensive end, started the first two games. Bell, a quarterback, has yet to see action.

Normally, players that transfer from a FBS school to an FCS school are automatically eligible . Because Georgia State is in the first year of a two-year transition to FBS, the players were deemed to be automatically ineligible until the NCAA’s rulings.

Bummer news, but would he even be able to play this year due to injuries?

He would have helped our D line this year… We need help getting to the QB!

Injury report after the Tennessee game would be helpful. NCAA missed this one I believe. We are FBS transitional but still FCS. What would it hurt to give the kid his Sophmore year to work through his injuries and get back in the playing mode. Great job NCAA gods!!!

So I am confused, you want to be FBS, you flaunt that you are FBS, but when it comes to rules inforced for FBS schools you want to claim FCS status? You can’t have your cake and eat it too. However, I think if I were to bring a cake to the UTSA game there may be enough for all the GaSt fans at the game to share.

It is ok to be confused GaSo Fan. You wouldn’t know what the process is like. We are an FCS team this season in the CAA(hence the logo on the field at the Dome), but because we are are going through the FBS transition… we are not eligible for post season berths from the CAA. Next season, we will be an FBS team in the SunBelt, but since again we will be considered FBS transitional, we will not have bowl eligiblity. If you have anymore questions on what happens when you become an FBS team, just let us know.

And I will let you know what is like to have a winning program. It’s okay being FCS than second status in your own city to the “joke by coke.” At the end of the day you will be just another FBS patsy who prays that one day they might be able to beat someone like Arkansas and then hang your hat on that for the next decade. If I want to ask questions on how to be completely irrelevant, then I will ask you.

Full Stadium > Empty dome. I hope the SBC commissioner does take a head count Saturday night. Can you even meet attendance requirements for FBS? It would be awfully embarrassing to be the first school to be dropped back down into the FCS, because we all know that they play better ball in high school than in the FCS

We will be the dominate program in the state. The North Ave. Trade School; UGAG; and the other GSU are all afraid to play us!

@Dylan – The second and third strings for UGA, Tech, or Southern would mutilate the Panthers.

I hope they aren’t afraid to play a team in their 3rd year of having a program, but the truth is GSU is making moves forward way faster than any of those schools could have ever expect and you can’t deny that is scary. Within 4 or 5 years tables will have completely turned (at least with GT and Ga Southern).

I also find it funny that EVERY article about something GSU, Georgia Southern fans come on and try their best to turn the attention back to them. Isn’t there some kind of newspaper down south you can get to spend some time writing about you?

This article has NOTHING to do with Georgia Southern so leave it alone.

@STATEment – You think Georgia State will have passed Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech in five years? Dream on.

It is conceivable that Southern and State will be playing each other in the Sun Belt within 3-5 years. Could also see State potentially getting a game with Tech at BDS in the future.
