Georgia State defensive end Qwontez Mallory has been dismissed from the team for a series of violations of team rules, including multiple curfew violations dating back to last year, coach Bill Curry said Tuesday night.
He said he suspended Mallory a few weeks ago and dismissed him Tuesday.
The loss is yet another blow to a defense that has already seen two starters, defensive end A.J. Portee and linebacker Dexter Moody, dismissed for violations of team rules.
Mallory, 6-2, 215 pounds, had an excellent spring and was consistently praised for his play-making ability by Curry and defensive coordinator Anthony Midget.
Curry said he is being told that most of the players are working harder than they ever have, “which is encouraging, which is good” as they try to improve upon last year’s 3-8 record.
