Mallory dismissed from Georgia State’s football team

Georgia State defensive end Qwontez Mallory has been dismissed from the team for a series of violations of team rules, including multiple curfew violations dating back to last year, coach Bill Curry said Tuesday night.

He said he suspended Mallory a few weeks ago and dismissed him Tuesday.

The loss is yet another blow to a defense that has already seen two starters, defensive end A.J. Portee and linebacker Dexter Moody, dismissed for violations of team rules.

Mallory, 6-2, 215 pounds, had an excellent spring and was consistently praised for his play-making ability by Curry and defensive coordinator Anthony Midget.

Curry said he is being told that most of the players are working harder than they ever have, “which is encouraging, which is good” as they try to improve upon last year’s 3-8 record.

The Panthers will start practice on Aug. 1 and open their season against S.C. State on Aug. 30 at the Georgia Dome.

Look, u can’t do stupid stuff. If u can’t follow the rules, you’re gonna more than likely end up in the criminal justice system somewhere down the road.

Unfortunate and a serious loos in depth at an already light position. That said, I can’t imagine this converted linebacker would have been all that effective at 215 lbs. Offensive tackles would have thrown him around like a rag doll.

Proud Panther you are correct! Hopefully the remaining guys get the message. Do right or move on! Twenty years from now there are going to be some regretful ex-athletes from the College ranks.

At least Marshall was getting players like Randy Moss. Even a junior college got Cam Newton. Georgia State can’t even get the talented thugs to sign. They’re just getting thugs. Qwontez? Seriously? That’s his name?

Anyone named Qwontez belongs in A&E’s “The First 48,” not on a college football roster. Geez.

I have zero feelings for these guys! They are given a FREE education and a chance to play a game that they love. I don’t understand it. I don’t blame Coach Curry! Get rid of them! There are too many other kids on campus who struggle to pay for tuition, books and meal plans while these ignant, ungrateful primas walk around as if they can’t be replaced. Shame on them and the parents!

It is going to happen. Imagine a UGA, LSU, UF in Atlanta. They get in trouble all the time in metropolises like Gainesville, Athens, & Baton Rouge where half the time people look the other way. Those teams would have twice the issues. It is growing pains. We will get through it. Better to have the tough love now and set the standards that will run this team than to let the kids run the team.

“working harder than they ever did”. Why now? I always hate to hear the 35 yr old linebacker, who just signed w/ a new team say, “I am in the best shape of my career”. It is either not true or he was loafing during training for his old team(s).
I see 3-9 again this year. Then Div 1 the next year, it is going to get ugly, folks.

Like the APD doesn’t have more CRIME to worry about than some butt-head football players. Those small town cops have nothing better to do than check on college kids.
This had little to do with POLICE and more to do with COACHES RULES.

It’s amazing to see the hate and racism on most of the AJC sports boards day in and day out. If you want the white kids to get the scholarships again tell them to work harder. It’s so funny that because of the kids name he’s automatically a thug. I guess if he was white and his name was David Duke he’s automatically a white supremacist. Well the answer for you people who feel this way is no. Also as much as you don’t want to believe this these colleges need these athletes to make them relevant and raise money for their other programs.

Racism? It is a fact that this kid wasted a scholarship. To see the way some of the football players act walking around campus is comical. You play for Georgia State. They are either too dumb or egotistical to realize that getting free nike sweatsuits is the closest they will ever get to being professional athletes. I guess getting drilled everytime they play a legit college team does not give them a reality check that maybe they should focus on their classwork because they will not be going pro playing football.
