GSU football coach Bill Curry at Sun Belt media days

I was not able to attend the Sun Belt media days in New Orleans, but Georgia State was kind enough to send a few of coach Bill Curry’s quotes:

Media Day is fun. I get to meet a lot of new people, and I get to see old friends, coaches I knew in another life. Today makes me feel the beginning of another new challenge for our Georgia State football program.

The Sun Belt Conference gives us instant credibility because we have become an FBS program faster than most. Recruits take us more seriously, and our players understand the intensity. It ramps things up for us, and we’ve got to work harder and harder.

It’s hard to believe it’s happened this fast. It took the efforts of an awful lot of people, and it took this cataclysmic shift in college football.

Our kids know we’ve got to play better to play in any conference, and we are working at that every day. We’ve got to have more consistency at quarterback, we’ve got to play better defense, we’ve got to get better on special teams.

For us to think we can move into the Sun Belt without a huge jump in our performance would be a joke. Everybody knows that, and we’re on that every single day.

My expectation is that we show drastic improvement in every area. We have to.

Our biggest concern is our defense. We did not play as well as we should have last year, and we lost a lot of good football players on that side of the ball. The defensive front is the area that needs to improve the fastest.

Schedule is out.

In case you missed it earlier today, some game times were set this upcoming football season.

Also, check out the Q&A with Mark Hogan.

1st and getting rid of the 3-4 defense will be a huge improvement in our efforts to stop the run. I think we will improve dramatically on both sides of the ball. We MUST!

Let’s hope we show up during CAA play. That’ll be a good indicator of how behind the Sun Belt we are.

I still don’t know anything. Mama says that I’m gonna need to move out of the basement if I keep making so much noise.

It’s sad to see people accept the status quo as permanent. Try to understand, Dawg(sp?), things change.

I wish I went to a real school like State, or tech. but i only got into athens tech…. now i can fix cars!

[...] Curry said he is being told that most of the players are working harder than they ever have, “which is encouraging, which is good” as they try to improve upon last year’s 3-8 record. [...]

Dawgnards, you are spot on. Most ga fans are a bunch of bubbas….they don’t even know where Athens is and can’t afford to pay for a tank of gas to get there. They finance their cars and use credit cards.

True I am a GSU Alumni, and since we did not have a football team, I pull for the UGA Dogs, But I am getting exited about The GSU program, and like YardDawg said I am coming around.

I’ll always like UGA, (attended 2 semesters at UGA, But Graduated GSU Class of 1989), but I can Have 2 teams! Go Dawgs!!! & Go Panthers!!! – If they ever Play each other I would have to say Go Panthers!!! It is after all my Alma mater :)
