How does CIT attendance compare to NIT and CBI?

Here’s a look at the attendance total for the games played so far in the NIT, CBI and CIT tournaments.

You’ll notice that the Panthers had 1,509 fans at its game against Tennessee Tech on Tuesday. That’s more than six schools in the CIT, four schools in the CBI and two schools in the NIT.

Georgia State wasn’t given a chance to host Saturday’s second-round game against Mercer. However, with a fee of $31,500 per game, that may not be a bad thing. Note: This was compiled by GSU sport’s information office. I forgot to add the credit before and I apologize.

Nice work Doug.

That’s right Georgia State outdrew a PAC 12, a Big East and an ACC school in it’s postseason game.

On to Macon!

That comes at a loss of $10k not including all the fees to run the show at the GSU Sports Arena. I am looking forward to beating the Mercer Bears and bringing it back to the GSU Sports Arena for a sellout! Nice work Doug to break it down!

More than 40 games listed, 4 had attendance greater than 5K. Only one game outside of the NIT had attendance of more than 3K (3012). These games are for extended practice, laying the work for next season, but not something the fans overall really care to spend their money on.

GStateBen- you should be in PR; you are quite the spinmeister! Do you really think Stanford, Miami, et al care about these 2nd, 3rd, or 4th tier basketball tournaments? They are all sufferring from not having made “the Dance”. Heck, Mercer, a much smaller private school (less than 1/2 of State’s student body) in a moderatly populated city, outdrew State. In other words, real basketball schools don’t have much interest in these lower tier tournaments, only the schools that rarely sniff post-season play create a modicum of interest. And those, of course, are usually the smaller schools. But a good PR man can take attendance of 1500 from a school of 30K+ and make it a positive. Good work!

What matters is supporting our school, no matter which school is your school. If you cannot support your school mail your deploma back to your school and take it off our resume, no matter what school it is.

I don’t think the point is trying to make money. The administration knew that they weren’t going to to make anything and in fact knew they would lose money. The point is to get the program into a winning tradition. There is nobody in the world who can currently say “Georgia State has a bad basketball team.” A year ago, this wasn’t the case. Participating in the CIT shows the world and the school that we have a good basketball team and we’re going to show them off.

Not everything can be based off the bottom line. The game was an investment in our basketball team. Well worth it in my opinion. It will pay off in experience for our team and more exposure. Very short sided to look only at the 10-15K financial “loss”.

Not worried about the dollars nor the naysayers! Just check out the VCU headlines. No. 12-seed VCU brings NCAA tournament first upset. Are we surprised? No, because there could have been 3 to 4 teams from the CAA in the NCAA’s doing the same thing!

I’m a Bear Backer so I’ll be there tonight but let’s be honest with ourselves: Both of these programs definitely need their profiles raised. Most people do not care about the basketball programs. But if games like this happen, a good showing means the two programs like Mercer and Georgia State may want to start a home and home series. Personally, I believe it is time to run a tourney featuring all of the state’s Division I schools – that would at least make people more interested in basketball. Georgia is not a basketball crazy state but they do enjoy rivalries; an in-state tournament would draw interest because of that appeal.

I’ve got news for you folks.

Your coach is a loon. The game story neglects to note that Hunter went after the ref and would’ve bumped, hit or attacked the man based on how he tried to charge him. Thank your assistants for stopping him. Then Hunter wouldn’t leave the court without staring down the ref. The police had to come out early on, it was so bad.

Hunter’s behavior was reprehensible. Have his players back? Please. The play he went nuts on was one where the foul was called on Mercer! Game report doesn’t mention that either.

At any rate, it was a great game. Best of the year for us in our place I thought.

But your coach? Good luck with him. Self- destructive.

I am a GSU fan as of this year. The program and the players are to be congratulated. I don’t think Coach Hunter should be fired but I do think his passion gets the best of him sometimes. I believe his low tolerance for kids making mistakes and inability to show his displeasure with officiating has cost GSU a few games this year. The truth is this team had an experienced group of seniors who wanted to win bad enough to deal with his constant substitutions and often uncalled for berating over a missed assignment or bad pass.I’m a former player and coach and was as tough as they come. At the same time, I know that no championship team has ever played being too scared to make mistakes or had a coach that did not exhibit the knowledge that he/she could not control officiating.

Give me a break. We went from 12 wins to 12 loses in one year with the same team. Coach Hunter has done what he needed to get the most out of these guys. He very likely got thrown out as a way of giving the team a jolt. And, it worked. Let’s see if his method changes next year when he’s dealing with freshmen. I’ll also be interested to see if anyone leaves the team because of his methods and how many transfers want to take a scholarship to be on his team.

As for you fake GSU’s posters and Bears could care less about your opinions. Tend to your own backyards. If you weren’t at the game then you have nothing to say as you did not see what happened. As for the officiating it was terrible. Illegal screens all day by the Mercer big guys inside and calls were extremely one sided especially the muggings on our rebounders. Classless students using the F word to our fans from a Baptist instituition. Unbelievable! What CRH did was his business and the refereeing crew should be reprimanded for their lack of professionalism. Call the cheerleaders dismissal another refereeing classless action. All three of those referees have no business in the college ranks! As far as I’m concerned we were playing six guys most of the afternoon given the Refs one sided calls. Besdies the Refs the reason we lost is because we shot awful most of the day and we missed Micheaux’s rebounding and assists. Additionally, Ali had been sick all week with the flu. Sounds like excuses but these are the facts. Great season PANTHERS and keep up the great work CRH we believe!!!

Your coach was thrown out because he’s out of control. There’s a shelf life of about 3 seasons for guys like him.

As for the refs, yes, one in particular missed at least a dozen calls, 10 of which went our (mercer’s) way. He’s always bad and thankfully he was bad for us for a change.

If our student body was using the f word, report em to security and have em ejected. I know i could hear one GSU guy on row one calling the refs scum for tossing Hunter. What about him?

Lol about the mugging on GSU rebounders…hardly the case. You guys thought you would just waltz on down to little ole Macon and wipe the floor with us. You found out otherwise as I warned you several days ago.

As I said, your kids played with class and energy, but your coach was an embarassment to himself first and foremost, then his team and then your school. I was there. It wasn’t pretty, nor was it defensible because his mom told him to act that way.

Phil, thanks for taking such an interest in our program that in multiple days you have posted on our blog. Also, thanks for pointing out and validating that “little ole Macon” is exactly that. A place that people really don’t give a crap about. I have no problem with CRH coaching the way he does. Maybe he scares you too much as likely you were the type in school that pissed yourself anytime someone yelled your name. If Heater said what he did and told me that, getting kicked out would be the least of his worries. Society needs more people like Hunter holding kids accountable and with his style there is nothing wrong with that. Instead this world is filled with people like you that likely baby young people and are afraid to hold them accountable. Keep it up you pansy. I’m sure you are the type that is against gun control and when someone messes with your family you try to use your bare hands or a butter knife. You are such a winner. BTW, your Mom called. I can’t wait to show her how I was raised.

Phil, 3 year shelf life…seriously?

Do you realize that Ron Hunter’s technical foul was only the 7th in 20+ season of coaching college basketball and that it was also his first ejection ever?

You are really quick to judge based on what little you know about the situation and the fact that it is the only time you have ever seen the man coach. I suggest you looking up his post game press conference video from the loss to George Mason in the CAA tournament and the videos about the charity work he does with the Christian organization Samaratin’s Feet…this shows what a great man he truly is.

I am proud that Ron Hunter is the coach of my alma mater and hope he continues to help guide these young men to be great players and citizens of the community.

Phil,

Your security consisted of Mercer students who heard the incident and maybe something will come of it. Who knows? I found the whole experience quite disturbing and frankly the ejection situation quite comical. Let’s send the Mercer campus police to protect the referees. As may I note one of refs called 22 Mercer home games in 2012!!! The other two have no business refereeing College Basketball! You won because we had a bad game and the Refs added to your advantage. Simple as that… but given Micheaux had been able to play and Ali had been well you would have seen a different GSU team. Hopefully when the 2013 schedule is released we will play each other and you will get to come to our house. Good luck in the CIT!

Sure Phil he stared at the ref. Why? Because the ref told Coach Hunter to shut the xxxx up just like your fans told that first row of GSU’s fans to do. Your student body was told multiple times by Mercer staff and police to stop their behavior. Your AD stood next to your student body to prevent your fans from approaching GSU’s fans.

Attended the game and was surprised to not see Micheaux starting. Not sure what happened there! The bottom line is the officiating was horrible and it reminded me of a bad movie. You could predict the outcome until CRH’s ejection from the game and four free throws for the home team. Then it began apparent we were in for an exciting ending. All I can say is I hope CHR gets his point across to the GA State Legislature and we have a Georgia D1 tournament that gives fan the ability to watch each year a Georgia College Basketball tournament. Why not and play it at Philips Arena with KSU, UGA, GA Tech, Mercer, Oglethorpe, GSU, GASO, Savannah State. Hopefully I didn’t miss anyone. Oh and by the way good luck Mercer against ODU. You’re going to need it! By the way Mercer will not have there way in the future when this coaching staff gets three years of recruiting in the ATL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Mercer game was a joke, and ol’ Phil up here is a joke as well.. it was one of the most one sided officiated games i’ve ever seen in my life and boy have there been a few. I don’t blame Coach Hunter for being thrown out due to the situation and as for what the cheerleader said, if you only knew what she said to get thrown out… “What was that, and why are you staring at me instead of the game?” were the exact words, thats embarrassing and sad… the ref came to the game knowing what side the officiating would favor, if the ref actually opened his eyes and ears when he was near the student section they all should’ve been thrown out due to what was coming out of their mouths in comparison to a cheerleaders “harsh” words…
