GSU’s 1st practice postponed

Because of lightning, Georgia State’s first spring football practice was cancelled.

So now the Panthers will open spring football on Thursday. Today’s practice has been rescheduled for Friday.

Here’s a look at 5 areas of concern for the team as they begin preparations for their first season in the CAA.

In basketball news, Georgia State hammered Tennessee Tech last night. The Panthers will play Mercer at 4 p.m. Saturday  in the second round of the CIT. The Bears beat Tennessee State last night.

I’ve seen Mercer play twice: their loss at Georgia and their victory over Georgia Tech. They probably could have beaten the Bulldogs, but both of their big men got into foul trouble quickly in the second half and they weren’t able to recover. Those big men played well against the Yellow Jackets. They are a quality team. I’ll have more about this matchup later this week.

Sounds like Mercer is a pretty good team. Too bad we’ve decided to give up our advantage and play on the road. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite us in the arse! Go Panthers.

Yeah wish this game was at home, but after the poor attendance last night I can understand. Would be a great win to steal one from Mercer after the solid year they have had. If we are hitting shots we win.

For those who think last night’s attendance was poor, you need a reality check. ODU, who averages 6000 a game had less than 2500 (announced). If you watched the Mississippi State game last night, they announced 2500 for an NIT game and it looked like 200 where there. We had a really good crowd last night and made a bunch of noise. Anybody that says contrary to that is wrong.

Hey Doug, when are we going to get your mug – and this blog – on under the “AJC Sports Talk” section?

I’m not sure my mug on the front page is a selling point!

Doug, did GSU decide not to play this game at home?

GSU really need to reevaluate its ticketing policy. Mercer is more family friendly by allowing small kids to get in for $5 or free if they are under the age of 5. Meanwhile, GSU charges those over 2 as adults. Trust me, that alone will tilt the hand of many parents when deciding to attend games.

Lightning in the area? It’s 80 degrees and sunny outside. Are you kidding me?

The crowd seemed very comparable to many other games this season. Great to see many happy students headed back to the dorms after the game.
