Georgia State’s men’s soccer team earned an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament today. The Panthers will play at No. 24 Duke at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The invite — the third in school history — continues a turnaround for the team, which is 13-7-2 this season after winning just four games two years ago. Though picked in the preseason to finish 12th in the CAA, they advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament last week, where they were knocked out by Old Dominion, 5-3. They are one of five CAA teams to make the field. The Blue Devils (10-7-3) have beaten the Panthers twice in the past. The two teams haven’t played since 2004.
Georgia State is 0-5-1 against the tournament field.

When the football team is terrible, it’s good to shift attention away from the dumpster fire.

Doug – Thanks for continued coverage of GSU sports besides football, the GSU family really appreciates it!
@theRealGsuMy@$$ Yes, Really! This is an amazing accomplishment for our soccer team, and yes us “city slickers” actually like sports other than Football, Baseball, and Basketball.
Good job Coach Surrency and the Men’s team, you make me proud to be GSU fan!
To build on what @GStateBen said, the fact that we only have 4 seniors is really good for the continued growth of our program and will spell success for the years to come!

I really feel like even though are football team is really going through a rough season, we are entering a new era of sports with GSU. This soccer team is looking very promising. Softball won the CAA last year. Baseball is one of the top teams in the CAA. Volleyball made the CAA tourney (which is this weekend) for the first time in 5 years this year. Even basketball, which has been in the toilet for the better part of a decade, is gaining new excitement. Overall, I feel like GSU sports is becoming much stronger each year.
