Scouting Texas-San Antonio

Three storylines

Can the running game continue to improve? The Panthers have rushed for 464 yards in the past two games, surpassing their total from the first four (455). The improved attack has coincided with an offensive line that has been mostly intact for the first time since the season’s second game.

Can Kelton Hill keep it going? In his first start, Hill completed 12 of his 15 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. He had a good connection with Albert Wilson, who set a school record with 175 receiving yards. Hill also rushed for 45 yards. He did lose three fumbles, perhaps the only the thing he did wrong.

Will the special teams get better? Coach Bill Curry was at a loss to explain why the special teams coverage units played so poorly in the win against South Alabama. It has been a season-long issue, no matter who has played.

A Georgia State win would …

Be its first win on the road this season.

Be its second consecutive and third this season.

Be its first win in Texas.

A San Antonio win would …

Be its first in four games. The Roadrunners have lost their last three.

Be its first over Georgia State.

Keep an eye on …

For Georgia State: Donald Russell. He became the first running back in school history to crack 100 yards when he rushed for 136 in last week’s win. He became more effective as the game continued, rushing for 114 yards after halftime.

For San Antonio: Eric Soza. San Antonio’s quarterback is the team’s leading rusher (242 yards) and adds 1,527 passing yards. He’s scored 13 touchdowns.

The numbers game

Georgia State’s turnover margin this season. They’ve turned over the ball 14 times and forced 14.

The numbers of fumbles San Antonio has lost this season. They’ve also thrown five interceptions. However, they’ve forced 15 turnovers.

The history book

This is the teams’ first meeting.

The bottom line

It may be too much to expect Georgia State’s defense to play as well as it played last week. However, if the special teams can improve, it won’t need to. So, if the offense can rush for more than 200 yards again, and it easily could, and the other units plays reasonably well, the Panthers could put together their first win streak this season.

Good catch J-GSU. Here’s to another fairly consistent effort all way around. Defense was great last week and offense did well except for 3 of the qb’s fumbles. This week I bet kh improves a lot in that area.

Loss in overtime. GSU’s offense was flat and missed 4 field goals though all of the FGs were 45 yards or longer.

GSU has a good chance to win their remaining 3 games although Campbell gave them problems last year.

Ha ha ha ha, how the mighty have fallen for the 6th time this year. And no this was not an upset, utsa was favored to win by 4. Blame the kicker, blame the coach, blame your fans, u still lost the game. A good batting average, 6 out of 8 in the loss column. West Alabama will beat you by 2 touchdowns.bha ha ha ha ha. U have to have 5 or 6 turn overs to win a game, ga ha ha ha. This is so funny to watch each week.

4 field goals missed were not all 45 plus. Since beginning of year we have had kicker on sidelines that has been in pressure situations during high school. Coming from program at Camden County and 3 year starter. The misses are a carry over from blocked overtime kick v. USA. ball was kicked to low.(pressure)

If you haven’t been there then you do not know how to act!

Situation changes when game is on line. Time for kicking change and money should have anything to do with this decision. Remember the quasi competition that was so close at beginning of season. Coach Curry was excited to have kicking talent on team.

Are assistants making decisions? Because this is not only about missed field goals it is about kick offs and the other teams starting position. USE 2 KICKER SYSTEM!

Use the players you have or take the chance of loosing them!

We know you are Matt’s dad…dork, stop fighting your son’s battles. He is a college kid who doesn’t need his dad interfering with what he should be doing himself.
